Thank you very much :)

Plus too duckling the caryatids will rotate out with the next set coming in. Theros is rotating upon the next set coming in so caryatids are not going to be standard.

Too true T0adSageJiraiya, that makes sense. M15 is rotating at that time too, right?

swap surrak for atarka world eater

BlueEyes says... #5

You mean Atarka, World Render? I don't want another 7 drop currently. Would be too slow, Dragonlord Atarka is rarely dropped in my matches as it is.

@duckling "This changes every October where the oldest of the 2 blocks and core set rotate out and a new block becomes legal." so to answer your question the core m15 will also be rotating yes.

with such a large creature base, i think Genesis Hydra would do you more good than Mistcutter Hydra even tho it's as a sideboard

I will defiantly test it a bit :)

what do you think about a couple See the Unwritten? works good with surrak + atarka, and you can get back the rest with den protector.

also im suprised about elvish mystic, that turn 2 courser/morph seemed pretty good.

It was good, but it's just a test atm. Most matches I rarely have it turn 1 and when I do it was with a tapped land. Most of the time ended up just Draconic Roaring or Roasting away creatures anyway.

Seems solid. Just curious, what is a typical T2 play with this deck in its current form?

May 3, 2015 12:43 a.m.

BlueEyes says... #14

If on draw: Preferably removal with side of damage kicked in the face with Draconic Roar

If on play: Rattleclaw Mystic is turn 2, unless set to tapped lands if you rather scry/gain a life.

I am really starting to enjoy the versatility of this deck as it is after play testing. I just added in Whip of Erebos because I put a bit more black mana than I should have. And it has been great in my opinion.

Also you could always Atarka's Command for 3 damage and play a scry land turn 2.

In all honesty I think you should keep the Black instead of switching to Blue. A majority of the time Dragonlord Kolaghan will probably get that 10 Damage off if your opponent is bold enough to play an already used card, they might even forget.

The match up you'll be running in more than anything is Abzan Aggro so that's the match up you want to have the most defense against as of right now. Make sure to check the top eight lists for the most recent SCGs in the past two months so you know what is making it to the top eight and how to defend against those decks. I normally build a sideboard that can defend against any deck but when a set few decks are running around the most I opt out to have my sideboard focus on them more than anything because they're all you'll be fighting.

Another thing to remember is Kolaghan is pretty much an Auto-Win against any Self Mill deck seeing as a lot of the creatures they'll want to play will already be in the grave if not exiled already.

But in the end that's just my opinion. Opting out for a Temur build is also optimal for Stubborn Denial, Icefall Regent, Disdainful Stroke, and more control oriented cards as well as being able to include Rattleclaw Mystic a card I see you removed because of the inclusion of Black.

Have you considered Mana Confluence in your lands? If you're having trouble with mana fixing it's always an option.

BlueEyes says... #21

I will keep in black, I really like the explanation Red0Zone. And I thank you greatly for reading my updates.

Regorek I have considered adding in maybe 1 or 2 Mana Confluence in regard to helping mana troubles. With the addition of 2 Whip of Erebos I can see taking some pain shouldn't be too much of a hassle with lifegain cards such as that along side Foul-Tongue Invocation

I seriously thank you both for the comments, I am really looking forward to finally playing higher level magic events.

I'm not a big fan of more than 1 Mana Confluence in midrange but if it's working go for it. I'm looking at your Green mana base and it's not going to be quite enough with Courser of Kruphix. 13 sources should be at least 15. Preferably 17.

In midrange I usually see and experience the best with 6 scry lands or so. Especially with Courser of Kruphix. It's like drawing "2-3" cards a turn. Many midrange decks are running as much as 11 lands that come into play tapped. This could work even easier for you running ramp. Right off the bat I would take out Rugged Highlands. Would 1 life be better or possibly fixing a top draw game changer or even winner?

Not that I would want to do exactly this but your land base would look more like this:

  1. 4 Temple of Abandon
  2. 1 Urborg, Yawgmoth's Tomb
  3. 3 Forest
  4. 4 Wooded Foothills
  5. 2 Bloodstained Mires
  6. 2 Mountain
  7. 1 Mana Confluence
  8. 3 Temple of Malady
  9. 1 Temple of Malice
  10. 1 Swamp
  11. 2 Haven of the Spirit Dragon

Now you have 15 Green, 14 Red, 9 Swamp. Instead of 13 Green, 16 Red, 8 Swamp. This excludes Haven. Your getting a ton of more value with scry (8 total) and less damage with Confluence. With cutting out 2 Red sources and running 8 scry lands you've can allow for a smoother chance of securing Sylvan Caryatid and Courser of Kruphix.

This also helps utilize Atarka's Command. Dropping an additional land quick and maybe scrying is great "draw" value.

There is 2 less Red at 14 but it's not as needed as Green. The biggest concern is 3/4th turn Thunderbreak Regent. However, you are running 2 Haven of the Spirit Dragon. This gives you 16 Red for Dragons. That should be pretty good with ramp and scry.

Another reason for an additional Black mana and extra scry is Whip of Erebos. Yes, it usually comes in latter in the game but you only had 8 Black mana for it. There is Sylvan in this whole mix but a great deck usually has a mana base able to operate efficiently without him. He's that extra 'umph'.

I'm getting long winded but your deck was so cool I wanted to really help!

Oh and Llanowar Wastes. I take out a couple of Maladys. That should speed her up alright

BlueEyes says... #24

BigFace Yeah I like the ideas on the mana! Been trying to figure out a good mana base and this really helped a ton!! I should run more scry lands, specially since I do not run any Elvish Mystics. Scrying on turn 1 would make a lot more sense more often than others and would increase my card opportunities.

Thank you incredibly man!

I really prefer Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury over Dragonlord Kolaghan. In a dragon deck he stacks up really disgusting amounts of damage, plus he's a lower drop
