I see a couple really cool things here:First, I really really like these Dimir/mill decks. I have one on my profile, and it made me happy to see we run a lot of the same cards. Two-color just wasn't winning for me though, so I decided to up it to three and change generals. Anyway!Duskmantle Guildmage + Mindcrank - This right here. This is so cool and I never considered it.

If you're trying to gain hand advantage with Doomsday Specter or Ghastlord of Fugue, I'm not sure why you don't have cards like Duress, Castigate, or even Despise. I refuse to shell out for Thoughtseize either, but those are the next best things.Sure, the creatures give you a body to defend with, but they have to deal damage first and are easily blocked. Those cards would also easily be your replacements.for Doom Blade (which is slow) and Murder (which is slow+expensive).

Thought Scour and Tome Scour can go right out. They're much better suited to smaller decks, and you're better off focusing on pulling off the big combos instead of little chip-damage spells like that. Similarly, Grindclock is far too slow to gain any momentum, though it might be handy for ruining someone's scry.

I definitely will have to consider fitting Phenax, God of Deception in my deck somewhere. Him and Duskmantle Guildmage especially, seem like good all-around cards to have for mill.

Good luck continuing to make this deck! You probably won't need Chromatic Lantern unless you decide to add a third color, but a few more fetches like Armillary Sphere or Burnished Hart wouldn't do you bad.

Thanks for the suggestions. After I deck-cycled this I asked myself why I wasn't adding the discard instant/sorceries. The idea is that both Doomsday Specter and Ghastlord of Fugue can hit multiple times and they both have a fair amount of evasion. But I totally get where you are coming from.

What would you say is faster and easier removal than Doom Blade and Murder?

I can't really argue with Tome Scour, but Thought Scour is really there for the card draw and it just so happens to mill a bit too.
I really don't expect Grindclock to gain a lot of momentum, its meant to sit there on the side, just stacking up counters till late game. Then it can hit for maybe 10 each turn. Admittedly though, it is really here in a probationary capacity. It is really "on the chopping block" for the 1st cards to get replaced.

Thanks for the suggestions of Armillary Sphere and Burnished Hart, I imagine they could be pretty useful.

Also, you said you were going three colors. What color did you splash? I was thinking green so I could include fly-hate, ramp, pumping, and Sultai cards.

Fast and easy removal? Straight-up Counterspell cards. Cancel, Remove Soul, Countermand, Undermine are all decent, but you probably wouldn't want to run more than say, 8 at a time. Once opponent's cards hit the field you're better off blanket-destroying them with things like Life's Finale or In Garruk's Wake.

I have a couple card draws that serve a dual purpose - giving me cards while taking cards off the top of opponent's decks. Sure it goes to their hand, but hey, they're still going to have to discard down, so it's worth considering Windfall, Fascination, Prosperity or Dark Deal. Even Blue Sun's Zenith would be a good addition since you seem to have no problem with blue mana.

I added white, so I could have Oloro, Ageless Ascetic's constant lifegain as a source of protection against aggro, but the deck's speed isn't up to par yet and I'm still testing. Green would be a very nice option as well.

I agree with Toraie's thoughts on card draw. I really like Blue Sun's Zenith in these kind of decks because it can either help you with recurring card advantage or finish an opponent off.

Another thought, with all of those nasty instants and sorceries, would be Meletis Charlatan or Echo Mage to double their effects, especially in a multiplayer EDH game where you need to keep your cards as efficient as possible.

I don't disagree that Blue Sun's Zenith would work really well, and probably better than Fascination.

As far as spell copying abilities, I will play around, but I wonder who would work better, Meletis Charlatan, Echo Mage, or Elite Arcanist...

why not focus on combos? Oona works best with infinite mana combos.

Megalomania, mostly because as I said, this is still a casual deck that I mostly play with a group of friends. In general, we tend to limit/avoid infinite combos because they take away from the game play. I enjoy combos, but I don't typically focus on them because most (not all) are relatively conditional and it is too easy to keep a Commander away to focus on those combos. My goal is to increase the synergy and diversity of the entire deck, not just the abilities of the commander (I also want to be able to switch the commander out and have the deck still run smoothly).

Appreciate the idea though!

Is Painter's Servant + Grindstone legal in EDH? If it is, it needs to be in this deck. NEEDS.

Keening Stone and Bloodchief Ascension both are pretty useful here i would think?

6tennis, it probably is, and Grindstone is in my maybeboard currently, and will make its way into the mainboard once I have the cash. However, Painter's Servant doesn't do anything for this deck if it is not working with Grindstone and I am not really looking to run a bunch of infinite combos. I don't mind them being present, but only if either piece of that combo has a lot of synergy with the rest of the deck.

joemick- Keening Stone was once on my list and I cut it due to it's mana cost, but I think I will reconsider it. and you are right Bloodchief Ascension would do wonders in this deck. Thanks for the suggestions!

oh jeez i didn't see the price on Grindstone. and yeah i see what you mean about Painter's Servant being useless in this deck.

Not to mention it's banned in EDH.

Megalomania Really? Huh. Never knew. It's a really good combo, though.

In a format that has cards like Sol Ring, Mana Crypt and Mana Vault, it simply ruins the fun far too often and far too quickly. Also takes the fun out of deckbuilding.

I play a pretty similar deck to this. Mill is super fun, though in my experience, it tends to get you targeted crazy fast. People don't like having their toys messed with. As you are likely to become targeted, I would say you want to add some more wipes to help buy you time. Things like Black Sun's Zenith, Decree of Pain, AEtherspouts, and Necromantic Selection have all been absolute all-stars for me. Also, if you are in a meta that has lots of the Eldrazi Titans, or just cards you have a real hard time dealing with, Sadistic Sacrament can be absolutely back breaking. Love what you are working with here!

rooroothepirate, Thanks for the suggestions! Not sure why Sadistic Sacrament isn't in my "maybeboard" (aka, maybe cards and cards I need to buy). It is definitely going in there. I have been wanting a few more boardwipes other than Cyclonic Rift. I will have to do some thinking between AEtherspouts and Necromantic Selection.

chirz2792 I would like to put Mesmeric Orb in the deck. However, before I do, I want to get comfortable enough with the deck to know that I can reliable find cards to regenerate my library since the orb also hits me.

Looks great! I'd recommend just a few changes. Mostly to do the commander ability. For mana: Liliana of the Dark Realms, Nirkana Revenant, Crypt Ghast, Cabal Coffers, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Ashnod's Altar, and Phyrexian Altar.

Card draw (if you needed it): Well of Ideas, Consecrated Sphinx, and Mind Unbound. I see Rhystic Study, which is easily one of my favorites. Also don't forget no max hand size redundancy.

Illusionist's Bracers could be fun. Twincast for big mill cards, such as Mind Grind, Mind Funeral, or Traumatize.

I have considered Illusionist's Bracers and Strionic Resonator and haven't come to a conclusion on which would be better.

alchemist4533 Actually, Painter's Servant would work for the Commander's ability, because it affects all cards in the game. And how about Glimpse the Unthinkable and Breaking / Entering? They are star mill cards.

March 4, 2015 2:17 p.m.

6tennis says... #21

Also, out of curiosity, do you know how fast this deck can win?

March 4, 2015 2:18 p.m.

alchemist4533 says... #22

6tennis, Glimpse the Unthinkable is not in my price range at a cool $25. Breaking / Entering is not legal in my deck because in order to include the card, I have to be able to legally cast both spells (and I can't cast Entering).

While granted Painter's Servant does work well with Oona, Queen of the Fae, it doesn't have much synergy with any of my other potential commanders. It is also a mute point since it is banned in Commander.

March 4, 2015 2:35 p.m.

wesamiss says... #23

Painter's Servant is banned in commander, I believe. Also, Strionic Resonator would not benefit the commander ability.

March 4, 2015 7:03 p.m.

You should find room for the cards like Blue Sun's Zenith. Braingeyser and Stroke of Genius are some others that would work. They give you some versatility and something to do with excess mana.

Also, while Strionic Resonator would not work with your commander's ability, Illusionist's Bracers will.

Ooohhhhhhhh, I thought Grindstone was banned. Good to know. And yeah, Glimpse is really pricy, I didn't realize you were budget.
