Sideboard

Primer is for an old list, too lazy to update :P

  • X4 Snapcaster Mage
  • An Ambush Viper that brings card advantage in the form of flashback, Gets pretty much anything you need.
  • X3 Tasigur, the Golden Fang
  • You can play Tasigur early or just play it as your late game win con, great for some card advantage when grinding.
  • X2 Fatal Push
  • Talk of the town, this new removal spell is efficent and effective.
  • X4 Lightning Bolt
  • Bolt everything, kill something or just go face.
  • X2 Spell Snare
  • There's a lot of good 2 drops in the format, this just counters 'em.
  • X4 Thought Scour
  • Self mill for Tasigur delve, and Snapcaster flashback. Also just draws a card.
  • X2 Countersquall
  • Super Negate.
  • X2 Terminate
  • Just kill something.
  • X3 Kolaghan's Command
  • So... with Snapcaster Mage, amazing. Against affinity. Against anything. This card grinds harder than the rest, amazing for late game.
  • X4 Cryptic Command
  • Uhhhhhhhhhh just good... play it. Chaining a bunch of these is how this deck wins a good percentage of the time.
  • X4 Ancestral Vision
  • Draw 3 cards eventually, or, while very rare, mill your opponent out.
  • X4 Serum Visions
  • Cantrips for days.
  • X3 Fulminator Mage
  • Kill a land, and get back with Kolaghan's Command, kill another land. Seems good.
  • X1 Izzet Staticaster
  • Pings all the X/1's in the format. Bring it in against Affinity, Infect, or any deck with a ton of X/1's.
  • X2 Dispel
  • Cheaper than Mana Leak. Comes in against Control, Infect, or Burn.
  • X2 Surgical Extraction
  • Eats good dredged things, or a tron land after Fulminator Mage or Thought Scour if you're lucky.
  • X1 Negate
  • Just an extra counterspell for when it's needed.
  • X2 Collective Brutality
  • As a burn player, F*** this card. I've lost games with the nut draw due to a topdecked brutality.
  • X1 Anger of the Gods
  • Simple wrath the board, exile some things. Great against Abzan Company, Bogles, Infect, Zoo, Affinity, or anything that has a ton of creatures.
  • X1 Damnation
  • With Bant Eldrazi on the rise, this is the catch all answer to wreck them.
  • X1 Engineered Explosives
  • Usually a onesided board wipe. For against Affinity, Infect, Jund, Merfolk, Lantern Control, Bogles, and Abzan
  • X1 Jace, Architech of Thought
  • Lingering Souls strategies are getting very popular so this helps a tone with that, or just good against jund for card advantage.
  • Mirror Match
  • In: X2 Dispel, X1 Negate

Out: X2 Fatal Push, X1 Lightning Bolt

Push doesn't deal with Tasigur, the Golden Fang, and Using it on a snapcaster isn't the best. Bringing in counters for more interaction. Could maybe bring in Fulminator for some Bolts, but bolt snap bolt could be an important way to

    win.

  • Burn
  • In: X2 Collective Brutality, X2 Dispel, X1 Negate

    Out: X1 Kolaghan's Command, X4 Ancestral Vision.

The maindeck has a lot of ways to deal with creatures from burn, so it's mostly trying to stop the burn spells. Kolaghan's Command is not great because it's simply too slow, and the modes don't do too much. Ancestral Vision is WAY too slow, a turn one vision is always great, but anything after that you are likely to win or lose before it comes off of suspend.

  • Jund
  • In: X1 Engineered Explosives, X1 Jace, Architect of Thought

    Out: X2 Lightning Bolt

Not really boarding much as I feel the maindeck is configured to be great against them. I could see boarding in Damnation if there might be a Thrun, the Last Troll.

  • Junk
  • In: X1 Izzet Staticaster, X1 Damnation, X1 Engineered Explosives, X1 Jace, Architect of Thought

Out: X2 Lightning Bolt, X1 Thought Scour, X1 Serum Visons

Boarding in sweepers for Lingering Souls and taking out some bolts as they don't do much. Boarding out a visions seems weird, but I'm trying it out currently.

  • UWx Control
  • In: X2 Dispel, X1 Negate, X3 Fulminator Mage

Out: X4 Lightning Bolt, X2 Terminate

Boarding in cheap counters to fight over spells, and Fulminator to keep them off Celestial Colonnade. Lightning Bolt is pretty bad in this matchup, and Terminate doesn't have enough targets.

  • Grixis Delver
  • In: X1 Anger of the Gods, X2 Dispel, X1 Negate

Out: X2 Fatal Push, X1 Cryptic Command, X1 Lightning Bolt

Counters for fighting over spells, and Anger for Delver of Secrets  , and maybe Young Pyromancer. Taking out some Pushes because of Tasigur, the Golden Fang, and Gurmag Angler. A Cryptic because of your opponents counterspells and it being 4 mana. And a bolt because it's just not very proactive in grindy matchups.Could also bring in Izzet Staticaster if your opponent is playing Young Pyromancer cause it eats that and the tokens fairly quickly, as well as kills snaps and unflipped delvers. But it dies really easily, and killing non pyros is less important.

  • Dredge
  • In: X1 Anger of the Gods, X1 Damnation, X1 Izzet Staticaster, X3 Surgical Extraction

Out: X2 Fatal Push, X2 Spell Snare X2 Lightning Bolt

One for one removal is really poor in this matchup, And there's really not that many targets for snare. Terminates still in cause some times they just cast their creatures, but no longer having gravetrolls might make this irrelevant.

  • Infect
  • In: X1 Izzet Staticaster, X2 Dispel, X2 Collective Brutality

Out: X4 Ancestral Vision, X1 Spell Snare

Ancestral is really slow, and Snare doesn't have that many targets. Not bringing in sweepers cause they honestly don't have very many creatures, and the deck has plenty of removal.

  • Affinity
  • In: X1 Engineered Exlosives, X1 Anger of the Gods, X1 Damnation, X1 Izzet Staticaster

Out: X2 Ancestral Vision, X2 Countersquall

Just need to kill their guys. Sweepers work great, as does spot removal. Vision is too slow, and Squall is too narrow.

  • Bant Eldrazi
  • In: X1 Damnation, X3 Fulminator Mage

Out: X2 Spell Snare, X1 Fatal Push, Lightning Bolt

Damnation to wipe the board of huge things, and Fulminator to hopefully cut them off a colour because their manabase is really greedy. Snare had almost no targets, Bolt and Push are very similar and can kill Noble Hierarch, Push with a

fetch can at least kill a Thought-Knot Seer where Bolt cannot.

  • Lantern Control
  • In: X1 Engineered Explosives, X3 Fulminator Mage, X2 Surgical Extraction, X1 Negate, X1 Dispel

Out: X2 Fatal Push, X2 Terminate, X2 Spell Snare, X2 Lightning Bolt

Bringing in Dispel seems loose cause they most often only have Surgical for instants, but a dispel for that seems better than a random bolt that's not gonna win you the game.

  • Ad Nauseam
  • In: X2 Dispel, X2 Surgical Extraction, X1 Negate, X2 Collective Brutality, X3 Fulminator Mage

Out: X3 Fatal Push. X2 Terminate, X3 Lightning Bolt X2 Ancestral Vision

Seems almost like overboarding, but there's just a lot of bad cards for the matchup. Counter their stuff, take their combo piece with Brutality or Surgical, and Kill their lands. Also beware of a possible Grave Titan. Card can be scurry.

  • Tron
  • In: X3 Fulminator Mage, X1 Negate, X2 Surgical Extraction

Out: X2 Fatal Push, X3 Lightning Bolt, X1 Spell Snare

Tron is probably the worst matchup, kill or Thought Scour their tron piece and surgical it away.

  • RG TitanShift
  • In: X3 Fulminator Mage, X1 Negate, X2 Surgical Extraction

Out: X2 Fatal Push, X4 Lightning Bolt

Game plan is very similar to playing against Tron. Try to surgical their Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle first, and Primeval Titan or second. Sometimes surgicaling a Scapeshift is fine too. Tip if you have a fulminator in play and your opponent trys to kill you with scapeshift and 6 mountains. Use fullminator mage to blow up one of the mountains, and not the Valakut as this will make all but one trigger fizzle, and likely save you.

  • RG TitanBreach
  • In: X3 Fulminator Mage, X2 Dispel, X1 Negate, X2 Surgical Extraction

Out: X2 Fatal Push, X4 Lighting Bolt, X2 Terminate

This deck instead of using Scapeshift to kill you, uses Summoner's Pact for Primeval Titan, and Through the Breach to flash it in. They have quite a few more instants than the scapeshift version so dispel is very important.

  • Bring to Light Scapeshift
  • In: X2 Dispel, X1 Negate, X2 Collective Brutality, X2 Surgical Extraction

Out: X2 Fatal Push, X4 Lightning Bolt, X1 Crytic Command

Not bringing in Fulminator Mage because these lists typically run few Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle and they run too much ramp for the destroy to slow them down. Want to be able to Brutality their Scapeshift and Surgical it away, or win the counter war. Taking out a Cryptic because they have Remand and likely their own Dispels and Negates from the board, so paying 4 mana can be tough in a counter war. Keep in mind that they usually bring in creatures or Madcap Experiment + Platinum Emperion so having Terminate still in the deck can be important.

  • Merfolk
  • In: X1 Anger of the Gods, X1 Damnation, X1 Engineered Explosives

Out: X2 Countersquall, X1 Ancestral Vision

Sweepers too a ton of work against this deck, and now with Fatal Push you can deal with Master of Waves. Cavern of Souls can be annoying, but Cryptic Command can still tap down to buy some time.

If you have any boarding questions, leave a comment and I shall try to answer.
