My oldest and most storied deck, the bane of every casual playgroup i ever came across. The core of the deck was formed from Onslaught booster packs, and tons of those guys are still there. Seeker of Skybreak, Timberwatch Elf and
Wellwisher
, with whom I was associated for a while after I got to 300 life one game (essentially invalidation any of opponent's win conditions.) Also around this time, I acquired a playset Priest of Titania.
Lorwyn gave me cool cards like Imperious Perfect and Immaculate Magistrate, and posed to me the question of whether I wanted to splash black for Nath of the Gilt-Leaf.
I recently got back into MtG, and with an income and recent reprintings, this deck got the shot in the arm it needed. Wirewood Herald was cut,
Elvish Vanguard
was acquired, and best of all, I just traded for Asceticism today. So now this deck is more consistent and resilient than ever.
The deck is good against aggro, because of all the life gain and very good against midrange, because it's so fast and can out card them if it snaggs a staff of domination. I'm hoping that with Asceticism, I'll have a better match up against control and shore up Elves' traditional weakness to disruption.
ELves have precious little recourse to boardwipes. I can only try and outrun Control.
EDIT: Elvish Archdruid + Staff of Domination
or Priest of Titania + 5 elves on board is an instant I win button. This might be well known, but i didn't realize it. It's also worth noting that with Yeva, Nature's Herald in the deck, all my elves can come out at instant speed, meaning that the combo still goes off while removal is on the stack. I've been considering building towards it, but Asceticism and Akroma's Memorial aren't affected by Yeva. (Although that would be disgusting; target archdruid with removal, start engine, find and flash in Asceticism, removal fizzles.) For now, its an I win button in a deck that's otherwise mostly fair.
