Standard Spirit Tempo Deck
7/28/16 - Update
I am experimenting with the sideboard a bit. Right now the options in the side oar are as follows
5-anti-creature cards 5-control-cards2-anti-creature&control cards3-creature protection
Stasis Snare and Declaration in Stone are obvious choices, however Unsubstantiate can act as creature bounce. It can be used to protect/bounce your own creatures and can be used to delay opponents plays.
I went down a copy of Dispel and Essence Flux to bring 2 copies of Unsubstantiate. I feel it can do the job of both spells in some way and is more versatile.
7/26/16 - Spell Queller Tip
If you have 4 mana where two are Island. If there are two spells on a stack (cc 4 OR LESS) you can exile both with a creative Spell Queller. If you cast spell queller and it enters the field, if you immediately bounce it using Essence Flux it will leave play before the initial trigger resolves. Thus the bounce resolves and it enters the battlefield a second time for which you can target the 2nd spell. The second spell will be held by Spell Queller but the first will be exiled PERMANENTLY!.
7/26/16 - CHANGE
I re-arranged a few things
Planar Outburst ADDED - This is great. Combines with Selfless Spirit to provide 1 sided board wipe.
Bygone Bishop Removed - Did not synergize with deck well and took too long to benefit. Replaced with Planar Outburst
Thunderclap Wyvern
1 copy cut- replaced with Archangel Avacyn
At best Thunderclap gives multiple creatures +1+1, great, however easy to die to removal. Avaycn can provide instant speed indestructibility to my team and is a 4/4 body with potential to board wipe.
Multiple Side board changesMoved all copies of Essence Flux and added 2 additional into sideboard. One reason is for spirit protection and to reset Spell Queller. If performed correctly you can essential re cast Spell Queller to re-target another spell.
Added an additional copy of Negate to side board to handle super friend lists.
Added 3 copies of Dispel. The main deck so far is bant company. That deck mainly plays Dromoka's Command and Collected Company. Dispel works on both of them. Essence flux is useful for protecting Spell Queller from Reflector Mage.
FNM Results
7/22/16- 1st Place Win - 4 Matches - 2 (2-0)games, 2(2-1)games
This is a quick deck I managed to put together for yesterday's release of Eldrich Moon. This was a VERY fun deck. I normally play G-W (Selesnya) decks and my deck before this was G-W-R(Naya) super-friends.
This is my first W-U (Azorius) deck and I really enjoyed it.
Pros-
Most creatures are fliers
Most creatures get flash
Many counter spells
Multiple anthem effects.
Low converted mana cost for most creatures
Cons-
Creatures are low toughness
Low Card Draw
Weak to board wipes
Planar Outburst
Tragic Arrogance
Kozilek's Return
Descend upon the Sinful
Thoughts/Ideas
Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit is nice when its an early two drop. However, if you do not get it on the field quick enough it becomes a 2/2 flash creature for . Its ok at that point but no where near as good.
Bygone Bishop is a great card when you are able to receive clues from it, however most games that I have resolved it I do not have many spirits that are below left in my hand. This means that it only works if I draw a or less spirit then play. Essentially, hard to pull off each game.
Essence Flux can save a spirit from targeted removal or allows a spirit to block then get bounced and return with a +1+1. You can even attack and wait until opponent responds then bounce your spirit into a blocking position! Interacts interestingly with Spell Queller. You can bounce your spell queller to capture a different spell and let the first countered spell resolve. Example. say your opponent casts Heir of Falkenrath
. You can absorb it. But then the next turn tries to cast Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet. Now don't you feel silly for absorbing that first one. Essence Flux Can allow you to bounce the Spell Queller in order to capture the new card.
Deck Breakdown
Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit- 2/2 Spirit that bolsters on creature entering battlefield. Most creatures entering are 2/1's which get the counter directly. This is most useful early game as it pumps up creatures as they enter. However, due to it being a low cost legendary creature, i hesitate to run more than 2 to avoid multiple in one hand.
Archangel Avacyn
- 4/4 Flash flying that provides indestructible to all my creatures and has the capability to flip into a larger creature. This is powerful top end and can be very versatile with most of our sacrifice spirits. This is a one of because of the high cost and the fact we are trying to go for aggro tempo.
Bygone Bishop - A nice 2/3 flyer that produces clues for card draw based on creatures entering. Slight issue getting full value from this every game as it requires early plays to produce the most tokens, but means you have to sacrifice a turn of tempo for it. Best to play turn 3 after rattle chains is on field and if opponent didn't cast something which needed a counter.
Mausoleum Wanderer
- One of the best spirits in this deck. It works like Cursecatcher While having prowess on spirits.
Nebelgast Herald
- This is a difficult card for me to evaluate. It is best cast as a flash in order to tap something before attackers attack and can be useful for getting through enemy flyers. However at 3 cost it is expensive.
Rattlechains - Another great spirit which ties this deck together. Flashing in any spirit can be amazing. Flash
Mausoleum Wanderer
or Selfless Spirit and sacrifice to protect against burn or board wipes.
