carpecanum Neither Shade's Form nor Darksteel Plate would work. Both have to establish a target while they're on the stack, triggering Horobi, who kills the target before the original spell/ability resolves, countering it.

Hey Vortexflame. It's a cool idea, but probably a bit situational (it's unlikely to stick in play and I don't run that many creatures.

Mogis's Marauder? It's a 3-mana creature that can act as a mass murder weapon with Horobi on the field.

Hey Vortexflame. Yeah, it's on my maybe list. Trying to work out whether I should run that or Shambling Swarm.

Read the Bones, if you was looking for a good draw spell. It doesnt draw you as many cards sure but its quality is abit better.

Have you considered Squee's Toy? I've seen this card in a Horobi deck before and it looked quite good, but it's obviously very reliant on having Horobi.

Cool idea Draw_Wurm, black definitely does have some political cards.

I'm not sure why Rise of the Dark Realms and Cauldron of Souls are in the maybeboard, though. Cauldron has huge synergy with Horobi, Death's Wail, allowing you to kill any number of creatures once a turn cycle for free! Rise is a super strong finisher, especially in a deck that focuses on killing creatures.

Hey NotaNetDeck. Thanks!

Tweaking cards at the moment so moved Rise of the Dark Realms to the side, although it was originally in. What would you drop for it?

Power Matrix currently has the Cauldron of Souls slot, mainly because it has less obvious Horobi synergy (so people will see it as less of a threat) and you can boost opponents creatures and then kill them when Horobi is out to play politics.

The other strong option was Mimic Vat or Arena of the Ancients to run defense and shut down opposing commanders.

Draw_Wurm since your commander kills creatures you should add Rise of the Dark Realms back and Remove Innocent Blood, since you have Dictate of Erebos and Grave Pact.

What is your plan against creatureless decks?

September 6, 2016 2:32 p.m.

Draw_Wurm says... #16

Hey Alondith. Done!

Ruffigan. Good question! The meta I play in doesn't go infinite. Head Games is anti combo tech.

Without Horobi we can switch to being aggressive with some of our creatures supported by Dauthi Embrace, Tower of the Magistrate etc.

Polluted Bonds, Wound Reflection Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Exsanguinate all offer direct damage routes. Drana, Kokusho and Dread are all evasive threats.

Open to suggestions though!

One of the lesser used but excellent rares Shambling Swarm might fit well in this type of deck. Great for devotion strategies as well.

September 7, 2016 12:42 a.m.

Draw_Wurm says... #18

Hey dlamars. Yeah I keep swapping Shambling Swarm in and out with Mogis's Marauder. At the minute running the marauder because it can be used offensively without Horobi and is an ETB wrath with Horobi out.

Razulghul says... #19

Ah yeah sorry missed where you mentioned that, I could see how the marauder might work a little better. Also I saw Mimic Vat but not Soul Foundry on your maybe list, I like the forge a little more for long term devotion gains. One more mana and you can play a more effective marauder every turn and set up gray merchant.

Nice Deck +1

i like the idea of a political mono-black, sounds like a lot of fun!

(Check out my voltron R/W Aurelia, the Not-As-Consistent-As-Sir-Lancelot deck if you have a chance)

September 8, 2016 12:31 p.m.

It seems like this deck could really abuse some of the relatively bad etb creatures out there. With your commander out, a lot of those boring "When this enters the battle field, target creature gets +1/+0 until end of turn." effects seem a lot more powerful. This would increase reliance on having Horbi out though.

SpookyToe says... #22

Wouldn't mogis' marauder just kill all your creatures?

September 9, 2016 10:08 a.m.

Emzed says... #23

If you target them, sure. But who said you would target your own guys?

September 9, 2016 11:02 a.m.

Draw_Wurm says... #24

Thanks Love-in-Theory. Yep, Shakespeare314 especially if they target multiple creatures. Emzed\SpookyToe Yep, it can play both roles boosting us without Horobi and killing creatures with it.

September 9, 2016 3:44 p.m.

Phyrexian Obliterator is a beast. So much value packed into one creature.

Black Market could generate a whole lot of mana in a deck that generates as much death as this one.

Dark Prophecy would suffer from the same concerns you have regarding Grave Pact and Dictate of Erebos.

Dark Petition might be a decent Tutor, depending on how often you'd have Spell Mastery up.

Fleshwrither would only be able to pick Erebos or Obliterator given the current list.

Sounds like you had a pretty solid game though. Scuttlemutt could be a good option.

I might suggest something indestructible if you're looking for a large threat. Such as Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger. This way it can live through being targeted while Horobi is on the board.
