This deck is a combo deck that aims to win via a loop with Retraction Helix, Welding Jar, Reckless Fireweaver, and Blisterspit Gremlin. It is not to be confused with eggs in modern, which combos off in a completely different way.
The loop works like this:
-
cast Retraction Helix targetting Blisterspit Gremlin
-
tap Blisterspit Gremlin to return Welding Jar to your hand
-
cast Welding Jar, untapping Blisterspit Gremlin and dealing 1 damage via Reckless Fireweaver
-
repeat 1-3
Now, you might be thinking “omg how is this deck good it’s win con is a 4 piece combo that’s so hard to assemble”. However, the combo is much easier to assemble than you might think. For starters, the deck runs Nettle Drone which carries out the same function as Reckless Fireweaver and Blisterspit Gremlin. The deck can even combo off with two Nettle Drones instead. Furthermore, if you have Etherium Sculptor out, then you can combo off with any of the many 1cmc artifacts in this deck in place of Welding Jar. With two Etherium Sculptors out, you could even draw through your library with Spare Supplies. Bottom line, the combo in this deck is very versatile and much easier to pull off than you’d think. As far as the non-combo portion of the deck is concerned, the rest is filled with cheap cantrips like Chromatic Sphere that help you draw through your library to find the right combo pieces.
Sideboarding for this deck is pretty straight forward.
Against more creature based decks where you will need more interaction, throw in your fourth Aether Spellbomb and some Executioner's Capsules. This includes Tron decks.
Against graveyard decks throw in Tormod's Crypt and Return to Nature.
Against control decks that play for the long game, throw in Scrapyard Salvo for a secondary win condition. Also throw in Feldon's Cane so you don’t deck out. Feldon's Cane is also a good sideboard against mill.
Against decks where artifact/enchantment hate is very beneficial for you (i.e. against decks that run Journey to Nowhere), sideboard in Return to Nature.
Against burn decks, throw in Navigator's Compass. Also, anytime you sideboard in Return to Nature or Executioner's Capsule, sideboard in 1-2 compasses for the mana filtering. Compass is also nice because it gives you the potential to combo off for infinite life gain.
