Hatebears is a modern deck specifically designed to attack opponents game strategy and lock them out of playing. There are many variations. GW is known for its creature focus and beatdown aspect.

http://modernnexus.com/topdecks/ gives insight into the most recent tiers of decks:

Tier 1's most challenging decks

AFFINITY 6.6%

MB plan is to Ghost Quarter their nexii lands, Path to Exile their Arcbound Ravager and Steel Overseer, and/or blow them up with Qasali Pridemage along with Cranial Plating.

SB plan: -4 Leonin Arbiter, -3 Voice of Resurgence, -1 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben; +1 Creeping Corrosion, +3 Stony Silence, +2 Declaration in Stone, +2 Engineered Explosives

Cutting leonin arbiter is safe because they run 2 basic lands max, also they dont care about searching or losing too many lands thanks to Mox Opal and Springleaf Drum. Declaration in Stone is good because of our limited number of flyers. Additionally they cant activate the clues if stony silence is in play.

RG VALAKUT 5.6%

MB plan: Ghost Quarter ONLY Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle. Path to Exile ONLY Primeval Titan and you should be fine. If they get a valakut down with prime time attacking, its pretty much game over for us.

SB: -2 Scavenging Ooze; +2 Dromoka's Command.

Sideboarding here is focusing exclusively on stopping an Anger of the Gods from wiping our board.

BURN 5.4%

MB: Play safe, block creatures and force them to bolt our creatures. Once they slow down they lose.

SB: -1 Hushwing Gryff, -1 Leonin Arbiter; +2 Dromoka's Command

SIDEBOARD CARDS

2x Dromoka's Command is a response to Anger of the Gods while also covering the threat of burn spells and enchantment removal Eidolon of the Great Revel and Blood Moon.

Choke answers any deck with blue, also providing a soft lock with Thalia, Heretic Cathar against decks with fetches and "island & X" tap lands.

Creeping Corrosion = Affinity/Lantern Control

Declaration in Stone is great tech against most of the field. Eldrazi/Tron creatures. Soul Sisters/Affinity flyers. Tokens from Blade Splicer. Mana dorks in company decks.

Gaddock Teeg provides additional support against abzan coco, All Is Dust and every sweeper in Modern. If it lands early enough it also hits Chalice of the Void and Engineered Explosives. Its also sideboard tech against Reanimator strategies, pairing up with Eidolon of Rhetoric to stop combo strategies.

Engineered Explosives is our catch-all against low to the ground aggro decks we cant deal with: Boggles, Infect, Soul Sisters. It has utility in removing Chalice, and with the help of Birds of Paradise and Noble Hierarch, Blood Moon.

Rest in Peace combats Reanimator, Dredge and Snapcaster Mage / Tarmogoyf decks.

Stony Silence = Affinity, Tron, Lantern Control

(biggest) PROBLEM = Blood Moon.

SOLUTION = Qasali Pridemage , Dromoka's Command

PROBLEM = Anger of the Gods

SOLUTION = Burrenton Forge-Tender , Dromoka's Command

PROBLEM = Soul Sister's Serra Ascendant and life gain.

SOLUTION = Path to Exile and Declaration in Stone the ascendants and ajani pridemage. Priority is on ascendants.

PROBLEM = Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle , we have no way of stopping the triggers. Dromoka's Command does nothing and neither does Burrenton Forge-Tender.

SOLUTION = Ghost Quarter only their Valakuts. And Path to Exile only their Prime Times.
