Chainer, Dementia Master be a boss and make this your commander

Also, I'd like to oppose ApocryphalSaint and say I've seen Ashling, the Extinguisher used to great effect many times

Well, your commander choice depends on what sort of play you're looking for in the deck

Sheoldred, Whispering One can be a fun commander. You won't make any friends, but it's solid for a reanimator or sacrifice deck.

I really like Seizan, Perverter of Truth because it is a politically interesting card. Have folks draw cards at the expense of life, then punish them for their greed (I'm planning to build a deck around this card On Sanity's Edge)

More reanimator fun from Geth, Lord of the Vault or Lim-Dul the Necromancer

Ob Nixilis of the Black Oath can be fun for a life drain. Be sure to run Sanguine Bond and Exquisite Blood for your infinite combos.

Maralen of the Mornsong can be an interesting grouphuggy card that turns south quickly. You can make everyone hate you with Ob Nixilis, Unshackled

I toyed with a Horobi, Death's Wail deck for a while. Could be a fun budget deck if you want to keep the board clear.

Ghoulcaller Gisa is there if you like zambos and tokens.

From there you can find a lot of your other synergies. Check out the combos listed here and the suggestions over on edhrec.

With the exception of commanders I don't know why anyone recommend cards.

Anonygod I guess if you've seen her do well then that's good. The card is cool it just has a condition that first has to be met and its reward isnt very significant.

My opinion only

You should consider Chains of Mephistopheles, The Abyss, and Nether Void just to fuck with people.

I would run Expedition Map, Demonic Tutor, and Beseech the Queen. Their purpose (for me at least) is almost always to assemble Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Cabal Coffers, but they can grab other things if your mana is good.

Entomb and Buried Alive will help immensely with reanimation, and Chainer, Dementia Master is almost always my number one pick. Other good targets you could run are Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Massacre Wurm, Rune-Scarred Demon, Solemn Simulacrum, Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, and Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed. Also, the best black reanimator spell is Strands of Night.

Sol Ring and Mana Vault are auto includes, and Grim Monolith if you can afford it.

Damnation is black's most efficient board wipe. I would also reccomend All Is Dust. It's expensive CMC but it can deal with enchantments.

I like alot of the suggestions. But as you can see, thedeck is currently at 109 cards. I would appreciate it if we could remove some cards before we add a bunch of them. Even listing possible swap ins or swap outs would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

ApocryphalSaint: I've built Ashling before. Her ability gets around Hexproof/Shroud and Indestructible, which is very convenient-and there are only 2 cards in the game that can negate the effect. I will agree that Ashling cannot be simply thrown in-she plays a voltron game to a degree. Give her trample. Make her unblockable. Those are reliant ways to get her effect to trigger.

She's good, but she needs to be built around a little bit.

As for the deck:

I would suggest Wound Reflection to go with Sorin. Maybe add Repay in Kind as well, but definitely the Reflection. Gray Merchant of Asphodel is a glaring omission as well. And I second a lot of what the others have said.

+1 for a Sheoldred EDH! Could probably add in Nirkana Revenant for the extra mana to cast Sheoldred, Whispering One late game after she gets killed off a few times. Also It That Betrays goes amazing with Sheoldred, Whispering One! Plus if you go the route of reanimation you could get him out on the field easily like in my deck: Sheoldred, Whispering Reanimator

Two cards I haven't seen in this thread yet that come to mind are Phyrexian Tower and Basilisk Collar. I recommend taking out Bottomless Vault (too slow) for Phyreixan Tower.

Phaetion any ability that uses the keyword "Target" cannot "target" hexproof/shroud permanents

its the same reason that clones specifically don't use "target" in their wording word

rulings:

702.18a. Shroud is a static ability. "Shroud" means "This permanent or player can't be the target of spells or abilities."

702.11b "Hexproof" on a permanent means "This permanent can't be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control."

702.11c "Hexproof" on a player means "You can't be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control."

as you can see the keyword is target

Well, alright. At least it works with Indestructible.

Some of these recommends are going to seem counter intuitive, but bear with me. Thran Dynamo over Gilded Lotus because as a mono colored deck these are effectively the same (you will have tons of black sources from your lands) and a Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx for mana. I would add Ashnod's Altar and Nim Deathmantle and some creatures to use with them (such as Grave Titan and Abhorrent Overlord) since you seem to have a sacrifice subtheme. I would suggest a Grave Pact and a Rise of the Dark Realms to compliment said subtheme as well. Since you seem to like tutors, I would suggest Rune-Scarred Demon and the new origins one (with a maybe on Diabolic Tutor and a yes on Demonic Tutor/Vampiric Tutor if they are in your price range, since both are strictly better than Beseech the Queen).

Oh I forgot, Archfiend of Depravity is a monster in EDH, at least when he sticks. He either eats a removal spell or controls the field WHILE fueling your sac babies for It That Betrays/Grave Betrayal

I'm no commander expert, but it looks, even with Cabal Coffers and the like, like you don't have quite enough mana early game.

freakman13 says... #19

Nim Deathmantle doesn't do much without an Ashnod's Altar, plus this gives you a mana ability sac outlet that can massively ramp you by itself and with the deathmantle and a creature like Puppeteer Clique, Abhorrent Overlord, or Grave Titan generate infinite mana and either infinite ETBs or infinite tokens. Next post will be my personal remove list.

From your list I would remove:Phage the Untouchable - so likely to kill you that it isn't even funny, plus super easy to chump/remove since you don't have haste.Nezumi Graverobber - super difficult to flip and it's a tiny creature with no protectionDread - the kill clause doesn't help much on a creature since they can easily remove it and otherwise it's just a 6/6 intimidateDauthi Embrace - I'm not a fan of it personally, your mileage may varyToxic Deluge - You don't have much lifegain and it costs a lot of life to do, plus you already have quite a few indestructible killers, as well as plenty of regular removalTemporal Extortion - it will always be countered one way or another. Unless you just won't be able to anything with the turn anyway.

Dark Petition is in the database now, it is very good for you and can slot in over Grim Harvest since that will end up exiling itself the first time you cast a creature and don't pay the 3 mana.

I really like the most recent update, you are getting a tight list. You still need to cut 4 cards, so I will make my various suggestions on ways to maintain your sacrifice/zombies theme while streamlining a bit.
First off, I would cut 2 lands, you have so much ramp and early game drops to give more mana that you can easily go down to 35. Secondly, I would remove the Darksteel Plate from your deck, since you are a sac/reanimator deck, so your creature dying just lets you abuse the ETBs more. Lastly, I would cut the Nantuko Shade since he doesn't add anything to your strategy (you have multiple other mana sinks, including other shades) and has no evasion or other purpose for you than just being a body, unlike almost every other card in the deck, which either deals with other problems or helps the theme of the deck.

Good points, i debated keeping the Darksteel Plate in the last update, and really the only reason it stayed was a way to protect Sheoldred, Whispering One but it does seem unnecessary.

What about a possible exchange? Batterskull for Lashwrithe?

freakman13 says... #25

Wow, the deck is looking good! You have one more cut to make and it really just depends on what you think is too redundant/unneeded/superfluous. I can't really help with that. If you want to playtest it, I'm willing to play you via Skype or try and figure out one of those online magic playing programs.
