Getting back into Magic after many years off and exploring some new formats, this is my first commander-style attempt. As an homage to my original play style it is mono-black, full of annoying janky flavor and has a mana base that is not for the weak of heart.
So basically what we are doing here is having our opponent discard to
Megrim
,
Jinxed Ring
, and taking gnaws from The Rack, and we have some light creature control and obnoxious little bears to help us survive long enough to get the environment going.
Some of the discard effects are goofy but read me out here.
Bottomless Pit
seems awful but if you have the above cards on the board and your opponent is having to toss their only card, you will be smacking them for 6 every upkeep. If you need to clear that hand out late game
Hypnotic Cloud
kicked will help, and if you're on top of them you can cycle Unburden to get through the deck.
Strongarm Tactics
is here to hopefully toss a creature, and Pox is like a very, very shitty Diabolic Edict that will do some damage and trigger your discard pains.
Tormented Thoughts
is here to play with
Abyssal Nocturnus
and
Nantuko Shade
to get massive hand sweeps, but in a pinch or in the case of an already empty opponent's hand the lowest amount of discards you will get is 2, so not too bad if you have complimentary pieces out.
There is a lot of pain to draw in this thing, so you can bet that the life total is going to get a nice close shave.
Ivory Tower
will help you use some extra cards to your advantage. The Drain Life is there to save your ass or act as a finisher and Damnable Pact can do the job for you in a pinch as well.
The creatures are so, so dumb in this thing
Deadbridge Shaman
even finds a place. The Fleshbag Marauder will help us get rid of a butthole and even if you're sacrificing him to himself if Lili is on the board it will flip her. My old Starter copy of
Ravenous Rats
was clean so I couldn't resist.
For grabbing Rhystic Tutor will get what we want when opponent is tapped out. Doomsday will handily finish the game when the end is in sight. Finally Reanimate and Animate Dead to steal a goodie, or to get one of our old boys back in action
Unearth
along with Mortuary Mire.
For the rest of the nonbasics, I just love some damn cycle lands honestly.
Blighted Fen
gets a dip out of the way late game, Cabal Coffers is there for the Shade, Pact, and Drain, and Deserted Temple is there to unlock your coffers.
The sideboard, simply, is just some more creature control in case you are getting overrun, Withered Wretch in case someone is using graveyard tricks also. Bad Moon will help out if you're switching focus from card control to boots on the ground.
Feldon's Cane
will cycle your deck in a drawn out game and rescue cards tossed to
Bottomless Pit
. Bottle Gnomes will chump, help out with some pain, and flip Lili.
Be sure to add
Leshrac's Sigil
if your homies play green!
