These are my general impressions and SB advice against the most popular decks atm based on my experience on the Bo3 Historic ladder with this deck, feedback is always welcome!
-•- Jeskai Control:
This version is a bit tougher as they play with 2 MD Relic of Progenitus, so it'll be hard to land a good Elspeth Conquers Death, but we have potential to overcome them on the late game, just need to get spells resolved to do so and that's the hard part. Sorcerous Spyglass on Teferi, Hero of Dominaria hurts them a lot and seeing their hand makes the game a lot easier to work around counterspells and removals, Shifting Ceratops also shines in this match up and usually can steal some games on it's own.
IN:
2 Mystical Dispute
1 Dovin's Veto
1 Brazen Borrower
1 Sorcerous Spyglass
2 Shifting Ceratops
OUT:
1 Wrath of God
1 Day of Judgment
1 Settle the Wreckage
1 The Birth of Meletis
1 Yasharn, Implacable Earth
1 Elspeth Conquers Death
1 Portable Hole
-•- Jeskai Opus:
This version is a bit easier to play against as they'll usually be more proactive trying to get value out of Mizzix's Mastery which gives us some room to interact. Also you'll want to bring both RIPs in against this version to undermine their package of Opus/Gearhulks/Masteries, although you might want to keep Search for Azcanta because if it ever gets to flip it'll basically win you the game in the long run and if not, then you'll have free card selection throughout the whole game
IN:
2 Rest in Peace
2 Mystical Dispute
2 Shifting Ceratops
1 Sorcerous Spyglass
1 Brazen Borrower
1 Dovin's Veto
OUT:
1 Wrath of God
1 Day of Judgment
1 Settle the Wreckage
1 The Birth of Meletis
2 Yasharn, Implacable Earth
2 Elspeth Conquers Death
1 Portable Hole
-•- Jund Sacrifice / Citadel / CoCo
I'll just summarize all 3 matchups against the 3 most common versions of Jund in Historic, because these are basically our prey! Our deck is overly equipped with cards that wreck Jund as a whole by attacking different angles. For starters, we have 3 copies of Portable Hole that will take care of Trail of Crumbs, Cat, Oven, Goose, Innkeeper, etc... We also have Sorcerous Spyglass to stop activations from whatever feels more dangerous at any given time, this card solely stops Citadel combo, Oven, Goose, Cat and even Fabled Passages if needed. Cleansing Nova might also be a good option to destroy their engines of Trail of Crumbs/Oven. To top everyhing off, we also have Yasharn, Implacable Earth who really disables the whole Sacrifice aspect of any of these decks and is a threat they must deal with above anything else. Not to mention we also have 2 Devout Decrees and Aether Gust to hate a little more on Jund.
The most important thing is to identify which version of the deck you're playing against so you don't oversideboard and only bring in the relevant pieces!
For example, you won't need RIP against Citadel Jund, but Devout Decree and Aether Gust are always good against any version.
-•- UW/BW Auras
This is an even matchup IMO, really goes down to how fast you can answer their threats before it gets out of hand.
Portable Hole and Brazen Borrower are the MVPs here, this is also a good matchup to bet on Narset as she will stop the opponent from replacing their cards when equipping Spiritdancer and Sram. RIP is good as well as this is a Lurrus deck and Yasharn is also worth mentioning as he prevents the opponent from sacrificing Selfless Savior and paying life for Adanto Vanguard
For UW your biggest concern is not getting countered when removing their creatures as they usually run Spell Pierce, Mystical Dispute and Dovin's Veto. For the BW version you'll have to deal with discard spells, so if you really struggle with this matchup you can try to run Tamiyo, Collector of Tales which is something I wanna try myself, but haven't yet. Basically, you can use the same INs and OUTs for the BW version aside from Mystical Dispute so you can keep 1 Typhoon and 1 Commit in as well
IN:
2 Rest in Peace
2 Mystical Dispute
1 Portable Hole
1 Seal Away
1 Brazen Borrower
1 Cleansing Nova
OUT:
2 Elspeth Conquers Death
1 Search for Azcanta
2 Memory Lapse
1 The Birth of Meletis
1 Commit / Memory
1 Shark Typhoon
-•- GR Aggro / Legends
The difference here is that against GR Legends you need to remove Bard Class ASAP and keep it out of the field or else the opponent can combo off and bring his entire deck to kill you in a single turn and while you're at it, keep the board clean as the opponent will try to aggro you to death until he can do the combo. For the aggro version, it doesn't change much, keep yourself alive as long as possible by removing creatures and ramping to get our big boys down. Even though the way you play against these decks change a bit, the SB plan is basically the same
IN:
1 Aether Gust
1 Brazen Borrower
1 Portable Hole
1 Seal Away
2 Devout Decree
1 Cleansing Nova
OUT:
2 Narset, Parter of Veils
1 Commit / Memory
1 Search for Azcanta
3 Memory Lapse
-•- GW Company
This deck can definitely overrun us if they curve out perfectly, but I guess that's always the case when facing such disruptive hatebears. Strategy is quite simple though, take it to late game and you'll most likely win with value from our big bombs. This is a match where I'd like to test Kaheera, the Orphanguard as the global +1/+1 would be very welcome here.
IN:
1 Portable Hole
1 Seal Away
1 Cleansing Nova
1 Brazen Borrower
OUT:
2 Narset, Parter of Veils
1 Search for Azcanta
1 Commit / Memory
-•- Mono Black Aggro
This one is a hard one to deal with as sometimes you'll get discarded to death and won't have time to react, but if you can get to late game there is still a chance. Another matchup where we might need to add Tamiyo, Collector of Tales if this deck gets more popular. Even though this deck can loop creatures from the graveyard, I believe this is not a matchup for RIP as we benefit a lot more from the possibility of playing Elspeth Conquers Death which can win the game on it's own by returning a Nissa or Elder Gargaroth to the field while taking their biggest threat away!
IN:
2 Devout Decree
1 Portable Hole
1 Brazen Borrower
1 Seal Away
OUT:
2 Narset, Parter of Veils
1 Commit / Memory
1 Search for Azcanta
1 Memory Lapse
-•- Rakdos Arcanist
I consider this a good matchup as we can rely on RIP after game1 and most of our removal spells will exile their threats.
Yasharn is also an MVP here preventing Village Rites to work and even Narset can be a pain for them by disabling Looting and Rites as well. Aether gust on Arcanist before combat is brutal!
IN:
2 Devout Decree
1 Aether Gust
1 Portable Hole
2 Rest in Peace
1 Seal Away
OUT:
2 Elspeth Conquers Death
1 Search for Azcanta
1 Commit / Memory
1 Memory Lapse
1 Elder Gargaroth
1 Shark Typhoon
