MINOTAURS ARE THE SHIT
Minotaurs are probably the best tribal deck in Standard right now (Warriors might be better later in the Khans block), so I decided to have a go. THIS DECK IS THE SHIT. You slam them in the face all day erry day and you don't give a good god damn what they gonna do bout it.
For the record, this is a fairly budget deck, as I already had almost all of these cards when I decided to make the deck. If you see something that seems odd, I either give a reason for it below or it is due to me not having much money right now.
OVERVIEW OF THE CARDS
Felihide Petrifier- A good Minotaur Lordish kinda fella. Deathtouch can be an extremely powerful ability on two and three drops, especially on defense.
Felhide Spiritbinder- I've been playing around with this guy. If he survives long enough for me to trigger his ability, he is godlike. Because that happens so little though, I decided to only run him as a two-of rather than a three-or-four-of.
Kragma Warcaller- MORE MINOTAUR LORDS
Minotaur Skullcleaver- This lil' guy is the one I'd drop quickest for a sideboard. He is usefull when he can swing in for four as soon as he comes out, but after that he just functions as a good ol' 2/2.
Mogis, God of Slaughter- HES THE GOD OF BLACK AND RED. Yes, his ability is one of the weakest among the gods, but it is still relevant, and if he meets his devotion threshold then I just got myself a 7/5 for 4 mana.
Oracle of Bones- Oh my god, this guy is the king of mind games. Do they give me a 5/3 Haste? Or do they let me play a spell? It's usually the former once they have seen my deck in play and know that I run very few spells, so I like to sideboard him out after the first game of a match.
Purphoros, God of the Forge- Uhhhhhhh, 2 damage whenever I play a dude? A 6/5 for 4 mana? LEMME FIREBREATHE MY WHOLE SQUAD FOR THREE MANA. Yeah, he's hella good. Only a one-of due to budget restraints. If you have the money or the cards, I would strongly recommend playing at least 2 of him, probably three.
Regaled Shaman- THE ULTIMATE MINOTAUR LORD. Lemme just make almost all of my guys 3/4s for 3 with trample, plus whatever else they got on their own? Yes please.
Ragemonger- Who needs mana ramp when you just have inexpensive creatures? I only play three copies, rather than four, due to the low mana curve of the deck. If more of the Khans block brings bigger minotaurs, might throw in another one of these guys.
Obelisk of Urd- This is probably gonna be a turn 4 or 5 drop, and it's a hella good one at that. Super-banner for my minotaurs, not much else to say.
Lightning Strike, Magma Jet, Murderous Cut- Removal/ Direct damage to the opponent, depending on the needs and circumstances.
Despise- The poor man's Thoughtseize. This one really helps to hit my opponent's early game threats so that I can crush him before he can form a board presence.
SIDEBOARD
Bile Blight- Very good removal. Side this in against any deck that has a decent amount of tokens, such as Goblin Rabblemaster, Brimaz, or Sidisi.
Dictate of Erebos- This card was very interesting during testing, but not quite good enough to make the main deck. If your opponent is playing midrange, you might want to consider siding this in, just to punish them a bit for having the slightly larger creatures.
Dictate of the Twin Gods- I have yet to try this, but it looks heeeeeellllllllaaaa fun.
Flurry of Horns- Against midrange decks I have found this one surprisingly useful. Never underestimate two minotaurs out of nowhere, especially if you already have an anthem effect or two in play.
Goblin Kaboomist- The wild card of the sideboard. This is a card that is seeing no play, basically because it is too random. After playing a deck running 4 copies of it (long story) I came to realize how powerful it is to have a two-drop that makes you Shocks in the form of artifacts, even if he dies fairly quickly. Essentially, side this in against an aggro deck. The body can be useful as a blocker, plus you're guaranteed at least one land mine out of it, which can make your opponent much more wary of attacking.
Hall of Triumph- It can be good, but can also be much less of a factor than, say, Obelisk of Urd simply due to the deck having two colors instead of one.
Magma Spray- MOAR REMOVAL. PUT THIS IN FOR MOAR REMOVAL.
Titan's Strength- A nice combat trick, especially with scry. I found it didn't do as much as I wanted it too in certain matchups, which is why I have it as a sideboard rather than a main decker. Feel free to put it in almost anytime you want to.
Whip of Erebos- Untested as of yet, but I can imagine this card being extremely strong, both for the anthem-lifelink and for the unearthing. Probably main deckable, but requires some testing.
Please feel free to leave comments down below if you have questions or ideas about anything. I will post my results and changes as soon as I can get to an FNM event. Thanks for taking the time to look over all of this!
