You might want to side in Tormod's Crypt as it's helpful when facing other graveyard focused decks.

Have you thought of using Profane Memento ? And also have you played this against multiple people I usually play casual 3-5 person FFA but I really like the deck it just seems geared for 1v1

@ Vulcan64 That's why I put the Relic of Progenitus in the sideboard and I have 4 mainboard Surgical Extractions. All of which are handy solutions for graveyard antics. Don't get me wrong, Tormod's Crypt is a good option, but I think the Relic is a better choice.
@ SantanaLegendZ No, I never thought of using Profane Memento, it didn't seem to fit the Mill Burn feel of the deck. In competitive Modern, your life total isn't really as important. In my case, the idea is to mill you out before you can get a good board state. The deck is definitely designed for tournament one on one play. I've played with a group of 4 people, but the deck wasn't designed for multi-player match ups. It was designed for a one on one game.

you might want to check out Mind Sculpt it's a cheaper easier to get Glimpse the Unthinkable. Granted glimpse is 3 cards more but you can cast it with 2 islands in case your mana screwed. You probably don't have that problem but just another mill card to throw out there.

Mind Sculpt is a good card, but Glimpse the Unthinkable is just a bit better. True, mana fixing can be an issue with multi-colored decks, but in this case, I've taken special precautions between Watery Graves, Polluted Deltas, and Darkslick Shores to ensure that I have the correct mana when I need it. Even Ghost Quarter can be used in a pinch for mana fixing if I need a specific color, although that isn't an ideal scenario. The suggestion is good, and if I were running a mono colored decj, I would definitely include Mind Sculpt.
Thanks!

I too have a grixis mill deck, Straight Up Mill is mine if you want to check it out. I have a bit more control to make sure the game goes my way. Snapcaster Mage and Mesmeric Orb are powerhouses.

I really like this. I would HIGHLY recommend playing Memory Plunder from your sideboard. This works unbelievably well for decks like this. I play it in a discard deck and cannot tell you how many times ive used board wipes, and other rediculous spells Army of the Damned, Blatant Thievery, Rise of the Dark Realms (for example) at other's expense for four at INSTANT speed.. if you see this person in round one playing high cost sorcery/instants- Memory Plunder = must have.

@ Saljen
Thanks for the link, I'll be sure to check out your deck. It's a bit of a gamble to go burn mill, cause it can easily made to faulter. Control might be the necessary addition to really close the gap. Thanks for the ideas and I look forward to checking your deck out.
Memory Plunder is definitely a cool card. I'm intrigued to see it in action, although, 4 CMC is high, so the spell I'm casting needs to be worth it. I'll pick some up and tinker with them and let you know what I think. Thanks for the +1 and the suggestions.

I recommend the Forced Fruition for sideboard, in case of pesky burn decks, storm decks, combo decks, control decks (maybe), and aggro decks.
May 8, 2015 12:57 a.m.
There is literally 0 chance you'll ever be able to play Forced Fruition against burn or storm or most combo decks or aggro decks. Those decks win before you ever even think about getting 6 mana to use on anything.

I'm afraid, I have to agree with Saljen on this one, a CMC of 6 is heavy costed for a modern deck without ramp. While the novelty of it is cool, I'm afraid it would be very good for competitive play. I appreciate the support and the ideas. Thanks for commenting!

possibly Tome Scour? this is very good in any format. its baisicly incase you somehow don't have a glimpse. have he mana half the value, you have 2 and you have the same cost and value. possibly take out 1 darkness, 1 mesmeric orb and 1 serum visions.

Tome Scour is an interesting choice, however, I don't think I would cut Darkness as it prevents combat damage and buys me a turn which is critical since I run so few creatures. Mesmeric Orb is one of the best political mill cards ever, as it slows opponent play and forces them to consider all of their actions. Serum Visions is too good to cut for a Tome Scour draw and Scry is huge card advantage. Truthfully, the deck runs pretty damn fast without a turn one mill card beyond Hedron Crab, obviously it doesn't mill on turn one, but on turn 2, it can hit for 6 or more if I lay another. As it stands the mill speed of the deck is pretty potent currently. Thanks for the +1 and the suggestions though.

Np. If you find something to take out for it, it's a great card.

Maybe you should use Mind Grind for landfall and Mid-Range decks.

TheGodofNight says... #18
While Mind Grind is certainly a fun card, it's not a practical card. For 3 less mana, I can get the same effect with Mind Funeral. While it is true that Mind Funeral only affects 4 lands and Mind Grind can become larger than that, I have to have the mana to pay more for a bigger effect. Sadly, I'm not often looking for a mana dump, because I'm spending mana efficiently to mill out my opponent. I appreciate the idea, and can see the novelty of it, but I don't think it's fast enough for this deck sadly. Thank you for the suggestion though.

I would clear comments, it's getting too long for me to look at the new ones.

I wanna point out that Shelldock Isle doesn't cast the spell for free, you have to have to not exile a graveyard, and get it to a certain point (even if it is relatively easy, it's more requirements). then, the effect costs a mana and a tap, so its two mana. When you take that into account, most spells cost two mana or so, so it's no where near free in this deck. Plus, it's another tap land, and that slows you down immensely. Overall, the isle is pretty much just a waste. just my opinion.
June 1, 2015 11:18 a.m.
ye, only trap, funeral and incursion top the two mana spot.
June 1, 2015 11:20 a.m.
TheGodofNight says... #22
True, it doesn't cast the spell for free and Shelldock Isle does enter the battlefield tapped, however, when I exile an Archive Trap, a Mind Funeral, or a Breaking / Entering, then I'm pretty happy with the results because I can very easily and very often drop my opponent's library to 20 cards or less. The ability to pick one of 4 cards gives me an excellent selection to choose from. Typically at 20 cards left in a library, an Archive Trap or Mind Funeral for one mana can finish the game. I've had a lot of success with it. I've heard arguments to drop it and pick up another fetchland to use for Hedron Crab, but as it stands, the deck works incredibly fast. I appreciate the input, but so far, playtesting shines a different light on Shelldock Isle.

For sideboard, I would suggest Traumatize, and maybe even put it in mainboard. With Shelldock Isle, you can do it for free, and it's absolutely hilarious seeing them glare at you as they count out the cards in their deck XD!

trollslayer says... #24
Trockenmatt there is 1 problem with that, the max you will get is 10 cards, the min is 1. Half is not as effective if half of there library is 10 cards.
