I think you're confusing group slug with rsw or mono-red aggro.

Group slup is Stax...

Also, are you saying that Purphoros is somehow Bernie Sanders?

Oops, I meant to tag it is Group Thug. Good call.

I was just trying to come up with some red-related pun.

Group thug? What even is that?

October 16, 2015 12:05 p.m.

The term he is looking for is "group slug", aka a deck that hurts all opponents as a group rather than targeting each one individually.

I could have sworn group slug was the same as stax. The opposite of group hug, being as cruel as possible, allowing nothing to remain on the board.

October 16, 2015 12:20 p.m.

Stax is a deck that is considered to be group slug, as you are forcing all opponents to sac their permanents (and most time, your stuff as well) but stax is not all that makes up group slug. Nekusar, the Mindrazer decks can also be called group slug, as can most other Grixis/Jund control builds.

Alright. I just feel Purphoros isn't group slug. I'm probably just wrong.

I use the term Group Thug as in Purphoros beats up everybody equally. Not exactly group slug, because it does't hurt or slow me down, and not stax because I'm not punishing anybody for doing things or forcing them to sacrifice their permanents.

Thought Vessel would be better than some of your cards like Guardian Idol. Great deck though! Do you find that you are hated out in multiplayer?

I don't think that Prophetic Flamespeaker is very good in here to be honest. While he does grant card advantage, he would need to be able to deal combat damage, and this deck focuses primarily on ETB effects, no?

I get what you're saying. Most of the time I'm not attacking because all the Purphoros triggers requires a lot of blockers. It is nice to have card advantage in a pinch though. I may consider finding a replacement creature at a similar CMC.

And yes, this deck draws A LOT of hate in my playgroup. I agree that Thought Vessel works better than Guardian Idol, and I'll probably replace that once I get my hands on it.

xzzane says... #14

Perhaps Magus of the Wheel could be what replaces it?

November 14, 2015 5:09 p.m.

DukeofLizards says... #15

Oh I've already decided I'm putting that in the deck. Haven't thought much about it, but it might replace Chandra's Spitfire.

xzzane says... #16

I would keep the spitfire and take out rhe flamespeaker honestly.

DukeofLizards says... #17

Thanks for the advise. I might just do that.

No problem! I love your list, and I plan on running something very similar based off of what you've done.

DukeofLizards says... #19

Thanks! Let me know if you come up with any good modifications. I'm always trying to make this deck more competitive.

Of course! Oh, here was another question I had. Why Mutavault? I think you would be better off with a basic mountain instead.

November 16, 2015 10:50 p.m.

DukeofLizards says... #21

Oh I had a spare Mutavault lying around, and figured I'd put it somewhere. For the most part you're right, but every so often it can synergize with Krenko, Mob Boss or Slate of Ancestry.

I think in the list I'll run based off this I'll just go with a mountain honestly.

That's a solid red EDH card. However for me I'd rather be spending 5 mana on something that directly triggers Purphoros. Ultimately I think it'd be a bit awkward and clunky in my build.

Elemental Mastery is fun. War Elemental got up to insane amounts in just one turn in a 6 player game.
