"I have been brought to this place and I cannot leave. I may be free of the amber, but I am still in prison."

Description

Hello! Welcome to my casual white good-stuff commander deck. The game plan is simply to combo out with , combo-out with Auriok Salvagers + Lion's Eye Diamond or less commonly with Heliod, Sun-Crowned + Walking Ballista . However, I have tried to build this deck around Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, thus this deck is a permanent-heavy low-CMC deck, which tries to rack up devotion as fast as possible to have explosive turns. What makes this deck interesting, is that it is lead by a rare commander, and it is the perfect balance of mid-range and combo, thus giving it game at virtually any table.

Typical lines of play

  1. Recruiter of the Guard/Ranger-Captain of Eos/Ranger of Eos -> Weathered Wayfarer
  2. Pyre of Heroes sac Mangara of Corondor -> Ranger of Eos -> Weathered Wayfarer + Esper Sentinel
  3. Pyre of Heroes sac Mangara of Corondor -> Auriok Salvagers
  4. Oswald Fiddlebender sac any 1 CMC artifact -> Moonsilver Key -> Lion's Eye Diamond
  5. Inventors' Fair -> Sword of Feast and Famine/Pyre of Heroes/Lion's Eye Diamond
  6. Weathered Wayfarer -> 1. Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, 2. Inventors' Fair

It is important to note how strong wayfarer in this deck. It is so important because, Nykthos is a linchpin of the deck while Inventors' Fair is one of the most flexible tutors. Thus, wayfarer is a premier card that is of high priority when tutoring.

Strong interactions

  1. Puresteel Paladin + Skullclamp (+ Oketra's Monument): lots of draw
  2. Puresteel Paladin + Bloodforged Battle-Axe (+ Double Strike): lots of draw
  3. Grand Abolisher + Teferi's Protection/Armageddon: psuedo time walk your opponents
  4. Archangel of Thune/Heliod, Sun-Crowned + Blind Obedience/Authority of the Consuls/Soul's Attendant: Constructs a formidable boardstate

Going for the combo when having it may not be wise, as it is vulnerable to interaction. Thus, opting for Pyre of Heroes sac any 1 CMC human -> Grand Abolisher then Teferi's Protection/Armageddon instead will in a sense "time walk" your opponents, allowing you to go for the combo next turn while being protected.

Winning with the combo

In addition to having Auriok Salvagers + Lion's Eye Diamond , you need an outlet for that mana. Therefore, you need one of the following cards as well.

  1. Walking Ballista: with infinite mana you can cast Walking Ballista with an infinite amount of counters, allowing you to ping every opponent limitlessly
  2. Skullclamp: cast and clamp Mangara limitlessly, drawing your whole deck and having infinite mana left over
  3. Lightning Greaves: cast and activate Mangara limitlessly, exiling all of your opponents' permanents, setting up for a trivial win on following turns
  4. Blind Obedience: you can extort every time you cast Lion's Eye Diamond, thus extorting an infinite amount on times
  5. Thousand-Year Elixir: like greaves

Both Walking Ballista and Skullclamp are the best options, as they do not need to be on the battlefield when you start the combo. This is because, both of these cards can be returned to your hand from the graveyard by Auriok Salvagers. Therefore, it does not matter if you need to discard them to the Lion's Eye Diamond, or if they are already in the graveyard as they can be returned to your hand and then cast once Auriok Salvagers + Lion's Eye Diamond has given you infinite mana.

Good one-liners

  1. "The smallest seed of regret can bloom into redemption.": when you blow someone out with Swords to Plowshares
  2. "Your superstitions and mumblings are useless chaff before my righteousness.": when someone tries to respond to you, on your turn while you have Grand Abolisher out
  3. "I am in the lion's eye.": when you are going to lose next turn but can combo out with Lion's Eye Diamond that turn to win
  4. "I await your donation.": when you have Smothering Tithe out and an opponent draws a card
  5. "Some blades seek their own wielders.": when someone complains about you having Sword of Feast and Famine out every game (see Steelshaper's Gift)
  6. "By the time your knees have worn through your robe, you may have begun to learn your place.": when someone complains about your stax cards (see Blind Obedience)
  7. "O miserable of happy! Is this the end Of this new glorious world...?": right before you cast Armageddon for the win
