Sideboard

Maybeboard

This deck originally started as a pet project to make a bit of a janky fun landfall deck, and has since grown into a semi-competitive combo deck that plays quite similarly to the modern Seismic Swans deck. I'm quite proud of how this has turned out, and I hope to eventually make this into something like a tier two deck!

The combo heart of this deck is to get a Retreat to Coralhelm on the field, then use a landfall trigger from Oboro, Palace in the Clouds, Simic Growth Chamber, or Gruul Turf to untap a Sakura-Tribe Scout, Skyshroud Ranger, or Walking Atlas, bounce the Oboro or Karoo land back to your hand, and then use the ability of the Scout or Atlas to do it all over again.

Using this combo loop, you can win by milling them out with Hedron Crab or Altar of the Brood, by pinging them to death with Tunneling Geopede, or by making a swarm of fliers with Meloku the Clouded Mirror. Out of all those options Meloku is usually the weakest win-con, because he's more expensive to cast and takes an extra turn to kill your opponent once you set up the combo. The upside to Meloku is that he can make the combo work even without an Oboro or Karoo land in hand, since he can bounce any land on his own for one mana.

With the low mana-curve of the the deck, it's possible to win on turn 3 or 4, but that requires good draws. What most often slows this deck down is the low quantity of Retreat to Coralhelms (and the lack of a comparable alternative). However we do have Commune with the Gods and Drift of Phantasms to find Retreats, as well as Into the Roil and Remand for tempo control while we stall.

The sideboard is currently in development, and I'm not sure the manabase is the best it can be, but overall the deck seems to be working quite smoothly right now (assuming they don't stick an early Blood Moon..). Any advice or comments you have would be greatly appreciated!
