Lol you need Nevermore . That may be the douschiest card of all time in edh 1 on 1.

Azorius Guildmage has some value here, particularly when combined with Training Grounds . Recurrent Stifle ! You'll see a lot of nasty activated abilities in EDH; this'll help close them down for you. Pithing Needle as well. Note that Planeswalker abilities are also activated abilities, so it counters them too...

My Mayael's Big Stompy Beasts hates both those cards. As will Birthing Pod , Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker , Godsire , Mindslaver , Moonveil Dragon and so many others.

Isochron Scepter could also be useful, especially if you can tag a counter of some kind on it.

Major control-troll deck here.

Pithing Needle is a good idea! I'm so used to it usually hosing my deck when someone steals it from me and blinks it (which happens more than you think). I'll definitely find a spot for it. Isochron Scepter is another card that totally slipped under my radar. There is a lot of countermagic here that could fit into that.

Idk if I'd get enough value from training grounds, while that combo is super hot though, to warrant a slot for it.

I'll try to find room for Nevermore in here too. I'll have to play and find an underperforming card to replace with it. For now this deck is just being put together so I will have to see how it works as is before I make too many more changes.

I also want Tamiyo, the Moon Sage in here but I can't find her anywhere and I refuse to spend 40 bucks on a foil.

Thanks guys :-)

Might want to swap Oblivion Ring for Banishing Light because it just exiles the ring into oblivion. Or if you like these effects, try both.

Well in reality they do the same thing except Oring is more abusable because of the rules text wording. However, I appreciate the reminder about Banishing Light . I will take out Journey to Nowhere for it since it hits planeswalkers and enchantments/artifacts which are permanents this deck struggles with a bit more when they resolve.

Actually I was thinking that the downside to o ring was like the one with detention sphere, that you can't exile an opposing d sphere. The downside is that if you're opponent responds by removing their nonland permanents from the battlefield, you'd have to exile one of yours. The only reason you'd choose o ring over banishing light though, is because you could stifle o ring's second ability. But I see you put both in, so it doesn't really matter. :)

Cool deck! I like it a lot. Have you considered running more mana rocks? The most successful decks seem to me like they all ramp, and while your commander does ramp you some, it might be worth it to include some more of it, like Worn Powerstone , Azorius Signet , Thran Dynamo , and Mind Stone . If you really wanted to make it powerful, try playing a bunch of 2-drop mana rocks, that way you get to play your commander a turn early, which can give you the swing in tempo that can win you the game (although, this doesn't feel like a tempo deck, haha). Also some good, cheap (if you look on ebay) tutors for you would be Enlightened Tutor , Mystical Tutor , and Merchant Scroll , just to get some extra copies of your good cards. Anyway, you get a +1 from me!

I could do that but my deck doesn't really play by tapping out for my commander as soon I can. Usually I play him when I have countermagic up or after a board wipe.

As far as mana rocks go, Thran Dynamo might be a good addition for bigger Sphinx's Revelation and saving up colored mana for countering, but otherwise there isn't much for me to accelerate into. I like Gilded Lotus because it makes colored mana which means i can tap out to play it then use it for counterspells until next turn comes.

Auggy makes it so unfortunately colorless mana isn't of much value to me :(

That being said Mind Stone is really good.

Mystical Tutor is already in the deck, however more tutors could possibly be good too.

I'll take these ideas into consideration, but without access to the best mana rocks Sol Ring Mana Vault etc. I'd rather just run more spells to play with (or stop my opponents from playing with, hehe).

I appreciate you taking the time to look over my list however and mentioning some cards I may have overlooked. Thank you! :-)

Every deck that has counter spells or uses a large amount of instant/sorcery spells NEEDS a Tamiyo, the Moon Sage . I run it in my EDH and before I play her, I make sure I can protect her until I hit her ultimate!

I counter your spell....oh look, its back in my hand!

I'm going to try and get my hands on one! I couldn't find any non-foils online :-(

Yeah she is pretty hard to get hold of, I got lucky with a booster pack :-) A lot of my friends get their cards of eBay, usually get cards pretty cheap if postage isn't a joke

She works fantastic with Guile, get there spell and your counter back. People usually scoop though haha

How much are you willing to spend on her, I know a site that has her for 8.90 (UK site obviously) in stock with cheap postage worldwide

What do you think of Dovescape and the infinite combo with Guile ?

August 10, 2014 10:48 a.m.

Well it's a solid combo for sure, but considering I only have 5 creatures in the deck, I don't like what Dovescape alone does to my deck, stopping me from casting all of my spells.

Whereas Guile by himself pulls triple duty by being a 6/6 hard to block beater, allowing me to be more interactive with opponents (I just played Rise of the Dark Realms the other day), and exiling trouble cards permanently if I choose not to cast them.

TL;DR The combo is good, but overall it's inconsistent for this deck and not all of the combo-pieces are great for the deck by themselves.

Fair enough. You got a pretty solid deck, +1. If you have a chance, could you help me out with my Azorius Control EDH/Commander deck? Creating Beauty From Violence

Thanks!

Render Silent and Silence maybe? And maybe for fun Etherium Sculptor + Sensei's Divining Top + Brain Freeze + Future Sight ? At worst you can just draw your whole deck...

Thanks SadoChad, if you look at the decklist you'll notice I've taken from your helpful list of countermagic.

I will have to reject your combo however, because Top is banned in French rules (I am pretty sure) and it simply has too many pieces. I love the way that combo works though!

August 12, 2014 7:25 a.m.

Hey Stormbringer! I love this deck of yours, it's really well constructed and is remarkably consistent--I copied it and made a few adjustments (that I haven't uploaded on to tappedout, but I suppose I should.)

I put in Hinder and Spell Crumple instead of Dream Fracture and Desertion (only because I don't have Desertion), Draining Whelk and Archeomancer instead of Venser, Shaper Savant and Snapcaster Mage (again, don't have them.) Medomai the Ageless and Drogskol Reaver instead of Future Sight and Gilded Lotus. I made a few other changes too, putting in Well of Ideasfor Vedalken Shackles, as I found the most important thing for the deck is to make sure cards keep coming.

Anyway, I was just wondering what the deck looked like these days?
