@OrzhovWarrior

Phalanx Leader would be more synergistic, there really isn't a combo there.

Have you considered Bow of Nylea , Reverent Hunter , and maybe Satyr Grovedancer ? I test played a few times just doing quick runthroughs and I found it to be underwhelming more than not, forcing me to Mulligan until I had the perfect hand. For instance, getting only elvish mystics, ornithopters, and lands with nothing to use was all too common. Maybe adding artifacts and going Simic Affinity could work? Artifacts seem like they may get good due to all of the Dragon business coming up, so it couldn't hurt. Maybe Chief Engineer , Springleaf Drum , and Armory of Iroas could be good? Just throwing up ideas. Lol.

Military Intelligence could fit nicely as another method to draw a lot

This looks really fun to play! The only thing I would probably suggest is you really need to put some counter spells there - at least 3x of any mix. You could probably remove 1x each of Life's Legacy , Void Snare , and Solidarity of Heroes for 3x of Dissolve.

Rotation is still fairly a long way to go so maybe think of getting some Bioshift in there. This card will do you wonders! The card is cheap anyway so I don't see a problem of you getting a set and testing it out.

Unfortunately, I'm really on a budget so those Temple of Mystery and Yavimaya Coast are out of my reach and may force me to add a couple of lands. Anyway, that's my problem. +1 to you good sir.

@daveandkenz

Great suggestions! Here's my thoughts!

  • Bow of Nylea Fits into my curve fairly well, deathtouch is nice and the utility is fantastic! I will really consider adding it. (playtesting pending)

  • Reverent Hunter This deck is really to split on colors for devotion however he does play well with the +1/+1 counter theme in the deck, im on the fence on him but will probably keep him out

  • Satyr Grovedancer A very solid card, might add it if I need more aggro

As for how the deck plays at the moment i'm still in the process of play testing it on other people but myself. I can guarantee this is not the final product and if I make a large change ill look more into your suggestion, for now I still have to figure out how well it works out.

@Pal00ka

Military Intelligence is alright; However Divination is much more reliable. I was on the fence over it but im rolling with divine for now.

@NewTurtle

I'm waiting until playtesting to figure it out. Honestly I love Void Snare way too much but that's just me. My sideboard is all control and I may try sideboarding in what you suggested to see how it plays but for now ill keep it how it is.

Rotation is pretty far off but I want this thing running like a fine tuned engine by time it does rotate. For that reason I'm keeping it post rotation.

Good idea, my playgroup doesn't mind proxies but I can see that being a problem at FNM haha

@all

Thanks for the feedback! as always its welcome and I hope we can get this thing in tip-top shape for when khans of tarkir hits!

I am very interested in how this deck could change with Khans seeing as there will be both BUG and RUG color cards floating around and how they will play with card draw

Mister_H says... #7

@mcskivvies

So am I. I think it will really reach its full potential once it gets khans but we will see.

Fair enough :D

Have you considered Thassa, God of the Sea ? It's a really good addition for a deckstyle like this.

How has 4x of Life's Legacy worked out for you? I think it's an amazing effect but the sorcery speed really bums me out. I really hope they reprint Bioshift and Quicken for Khans. It will be a huge boost for this deck.

Since you have a few cards that rely on drawing. Have you considered running Military Intelligence ? (just keep attacking and drawing yourself to bigger creatures and greater healthpools :D )

August 9, 2014 1 p.m.

I think Simic Charm would be great in this.

August 10, 2014 5:37 p.m.

Quicken would also be cool. You can use it with Divination , Life's Legacy , and Void Snare ..

August 10, 2014 5:40 p.m.

oops sorry forgot you were doing post RTR

@NewTurtle

Thassa, God of the Sea is definitely on my maybe list, again ill have to review some card choices after I've had some actual experience with this deck. Hopefully ill be going to FNM this Friday and seeing how it does!

I really hope they reprint those cards and add some new toys to play with :D

@bcornett24

Thanks for the upvote!

@Hills

I have considered but I feel like Divination is a much better fit for that slot. Once again I'll reconsider it once I've had some proper playtesting.

@BattleMasterBill

If it wasn't post rotation I'm sure all of those cards would be in here haha. Thanks for the attempted suggestion nonetheless.

@all

Thanks again for all the comments, I'm fairly surprised this deck got as much attention as it did!

August 11, 2014 11:22 a.m.

So I made your deck and here's what I noticed:Ornithopter - Needs to be in the deck, does a lot for the deck.Chasm Skulker - amazing card.Aqueous Form - HUGE help for Chasm Skulker and Darksteel Citadel and the scry is nice.Void Snare - this card is so good! I did -1 of the 4 to make room for other stuff, which I WILL get to.Ensoul Artifact - So good, gives Ornithopter and Darksteel Citadel their main purpose in the deck.Divination - I couldn't tell you how good this card is in this deck. I run 3 in main board.Ordeal of Thassa - the card is just okay, I only have one in main deck right, although it will probably be seeking it's way out soon. It's just kinda slow.Horizon Chimera - I like it! It did fairly well against u/w control.

Okay so now here's what I've been testing in it and I like:Prognostic Sphinx - he just tempos AMAZING with the deck and just fits better than Kiora.Quickling - you're going to want to run a four of of this puppy. It's Soo good! Ornithopter works great with it and it's another great battle trick. I also want to experiment with illusionary angel and these two, it looks sweet in my head.Military Intelligence - like you, I was very iffy about playing this card. I tested with it and it really did great. I run two in main.Hall of Triumph - I can't say a whole lot about this card because I have yet to test with it. Although this is what it does. It makes your squid tokens and and Quickings so muck more powerful. I'm running a one of in main right now.Cards I added that you're not looking to add- Simic Charm & Quicken .

Okay so that's that now I can explain why I took the unnamed ones out.Kiora- the Sphinx just tempos better.Elvish Mystic- I found it to be completely unnecessary.Life's Legacy-Too situational to play in this deck. I would rather hit my opponent then slow the game down. I see it's potential, but you just have better options. Solidarity of Heroes - The card is cool and does make you fatty a whole heck of a lot fatter, but if Skulker isn't on the field it has no purpose.Hero of Leina Tower - She was very interesting, although I didn't find good use of her. She was too slow.

I still working on sb and I had to adjust the mana base because of all the blue I added and all the green I took out. I love the idea and the deck is a lot of fun! Thanks for sharing it! And a well deserved +1

@BattleMasterBill

first off I just want to say, Holy wow, thanks for the feedback! I've never gotten this much feedback in the same post before so bear with me

Cards you suggest:

  • im probably going to add Prognostic Sphinx , he fits the curb really nicely and seems to do wonders for me.

  • I dont know how I didnt notice Quickling . Again really great for this deck

  • Ill test Military Intelligence but I just dont know. I just feel like Divination does its job much better and my curb already has a lot of 2 drops

  • Hall of Triumph is a card I saw but thought the three drop could go somewhere better. It may work out nicely though

Cards you took out:

  • Kiora: I think she still fits the 4 drop spot nicely in this deck shared with Horizon Chimera . I see what happens during my FNM but I feel like shes pretty solid

  • Life's Legacy : its a pretty niche card and it really adds something not many decks have to the table. However it may not be the best for the slot it occupies (and its not instant). I may replace it but then I have to find a new name haha

  • Solidarity of Heroes I agree, its too niche and its more of a win more card. Taking this one out.

  • Elvish Mystic & Hero of Leina Tower are not really fitting in this deck but I felt that I was wasting T1 by having no one drops. Suppose it will work without them but id like to find some good T1 replacements

All in all thanks for testing stuff out for me. Ill be shuffling some stuff around the deck tonight and maybe looking for some more alternate cards!

Thanks a bunch!

Just changed the deck by a huge amount by following some of BattleMasterBill's thoughtful suggestions.

I actually have a curb now :D

I'm going to cycle the comments at some point soon. If there's something you'd like to finish discussing do it now! or risk it being lost in the cycle!

I disagree with the taking out of Life's Legacy and Solidarity of Heroes . Those two cards made the deck. I won a game in 4 or 5 turns by using two Solidarity of Heroes on a chasm which made it 17/17 and 1HKO for game. The only change I made when testing was replacing Horizon Chimera with 2 Quicken . I def agree with adding Quicken as it allows you to use Life's Legacy as instant, gives you a draw to buff Chasm, and then make anything fizzle if opponent tries to banish the chasm, you sacrifice it and get all the squid tokens before they can do anything to it. Quicken also makes void snare instant speed. I didn't test out a playset of it tho so Idk if I would say play 4 but 2 is a good number (although it will be rotating out soon). I agree with the Elvish Mystic taken out but Idk how I feel about the shorestalkers and the Lessons. Didn't test but the deck isn't the same without Life's Legacy and Solidarity of Heroes .

With all those flying and unblockables, I would prefer having Military Intelligence over Warriors' Lesson and/or Ordeal of Thassa (especially since Hero of Leina Tower is gone). The reason why I value Military Intelligence over Ordeal is that MI is an investment that quickly overtakes the board and puts you in a card advantage snowball much more sustainable than Warrior's Lesson and Ordeal of Thassa. Looking at your creatures, triggering it would be very easy each turn.

I'm glad that Life's Legacy has been taken out here. Like I said before, I really love the mechanics of it but without Quicken , the card's sorcery speed really made the card very mediocre.

Personally, I love Elvish Mystic and would try to test a 2x split of Warriors' Lesson and Elvish Mystic if you're really keen to keep those Warrior's Lessons in the deck. I love how the deck is still evolving. Keep up the good work!

@NekoXiu

I do like what Life's Legacy brings to the table and Solidarity of Heroes can definitely win games. The main problem I had with that deck state is I felt it was too inconsistent. Honestly the two versions play so much differently I might just Fork the previous version of this deck so I can archive for later and see which one ends up better.

@NewTurtle

Military Intelligence is a card ive been iffy on for a while. Next time I playtest ill throw it in the mainboard and see how it does.

Ordeal of Thassa may very well be on its way out of the deck.

if Quicken were post rotation I would be having a much better time haha however there is an instant speed sac outlet that hasn't been suggested yet but i've noticed; Scourge of Skola Vale . I'd like to know what you guys think of that card.

Elvish Mystic well always be a good filler card. If my deck seems to play slow when I start playtesting again ill chuck a few of those in there.

@all

Thanks for the comments!

August 14, 2014 11:44 a.m.

Ehh I don't really like Scourge of Skola Vale .sacing more creatures just to make one bigger seems very risky to me. You're making your entire attack an easier target by putting it all in the same place. And he's a 3 drop that comes in as a 2/2 so that's kinda yucky.

@BattleMasterBill

It'd be in reaction to your Chasm Skulker getting killed but I think it would only really work in the old deck

cool deck. Just made a simic green deck that's pretty similar. Has some draw with Chasm Skulker being a big part of it. Not sure if it needs something more. Like a couple bigger creatures. Could you check it out and see what you think? squidward's wrath (post rotation).

What if you substitute Hypnotic Siren for Triton Shorestalker ? It does the same thing for early game and has great versatility later on.

Silverf1sh says... #25

I would add in two islands, it'll get you more land and even out your mana base

I'm not sure what to cut, maybe the sphinxes, but I don't have the same feel for the deck you would so I'd just consider what feels clunky and drop on it.
