elvesbaby: If I activate Sundial of the Infinite after Phage has resolved but while her triggered ability is still on the stack, I can end the turn and her trigger will be countered as a state-based action. I would obviously cast Phage when I'm ready to end the turn.

architectofgoo thank you for explaining to me how that worked!

Can Phage the Untouchable be played as a Commander without loosing you the game? Or dose the Command zone count as part of your hand?

NoSoyYucateco says... #6
No, DimirZer00, command zone is not your hand. So this deck is built on countering her when she's cast so she goes into your graveyard, then getting her into your hand, or nullifying her ETB affect with Torpor Orb.

This deck needs Tutors and Unblockable spells. It seems like you have the Tutors part down. Now, you need to get unblockable spells. While Filth is a great card. You need a Evil Presence to use it against non black deck. I think it is far better for you to use the two artifacts:Whispersilk Cloak & Glaring Spotlight. Along with the Rogue's Passage and Trailblazer's Boots that are already in your deck.
That being said, If you add in Whispersilk Cloak & Glaring Spotlight. I would also add in Beacon of Unrest & Trading Post. So, your able to get artifacts back. If someone destroy them.
and a good replace for Crypt Ghast is Magus of the Coffers. Who wouldn't be illegal in the deck. At the very least you may want to side broad him.So, that way when people say Crypt Ghast is a illegal card. Because it is a mono-black deck. You can just switch him out for Magus of the Coffers.

I have a phage EDH very very similar to yours. Endless whispers is a mainstay card because if you have phage out and a sac outlet you can just force people to lose the game just by sending her to the grave and popping up elsewhere. Another fun way around her loss effect is Sudden Spoiling when she hits play.

Endless Whispers so you can pass phage to an opponent if she dies.

rewer Already in the maybeboard :) Mostly, I need to sit down with this decklist and figure out which ten cards to cut out. Will definitely need further playtesting once I finish the deck.
January 11, 2015 12:13 p.m.
Cover of Darkness naming avatar or minion. The best sort of evasion is the kind that can just sit ready to go on the field until you're ready to use it.
@rewer I forget, what happens when someone loses the game with your commander under their control?

sonnet666: Thanks for the suggest, I'll definitely find a place for that in the main. I only wish there were more avatars or minions that would make the card more valuable :P. As for your question, if someone loses the game with your commander, it will go to your graveyard as a state-based action, and then you can move it to the command zone if you want as part of the normal death replacement.

architectofgooactually if another player loses the game with a card you own under their control you regain control of the card

that's only if you lose and creatures owned by you are controlled by another player
January 12, 2015 12:31 a.m.
800.4a When a player leaves the game, all objects (see rule 109) owned by that player leave the game and any effects which give that player control of any objects or players end. Then, if that player controlled any objects on the stack not represented by cards, those objects cease to exist. Then, if there are any objects still controlled by that player, those objects are exiled. This is not a state-based action. It happens as soon as the player leaves the game. If the player who left the game had priority at the time he or she left, priority passes to the next player in turn order whos still in the game.
Endless Whispers puts Phage onto the battlefield under that opp's control; it's not an effect granting the opponent control of an object (e.g. Memnarch), so I think this falls under the, "Then, if there are any objects still controlled by that player, those objects are exiled," clause.
January 12, 2015 6:48 a.m.
Let me clarify: Endless Whispers has a triggered ability that creates the one-shot effect of putting Phage onto the battlefield. One shot effects have no duration (i.e. do not start or end), so the, "any effects which give that player control of any objects or players end," doesn't apply, and you don't regain control of Phage.
If someone took control of Phage (Using Memnarch's first and second ability's for instance, which create a continuous effect with no specified duration that lasts for the rest of the game.) and subsequently lost, you would get Phage back.

You might get some ideas from this. Great list :).
Have you thought of Burnished Hart? Some nice ramp for when you aren't really doing anything early. I love it in a lot of my non-green EDH lists.

Diabolic Revelation is good for searching out Sundial of the Infinite Torpor Orb and Platinum Angel to get phage into play. you can also search out your fear and unblockable enablers at the same time. but i do suggest playing Glaring Spotlight straight up being unblockable is great

I like Diabolic Revelation, but in order for it to be better than, say, Diabolic Tutor, I have to pay at least 7 mana to use it. I'm certainly considering playtesting with it once I get the deck together, though. Thanks for the suggest :)

+1 because phage is probably the funniest commander outside of that bant hippo thing from way back. I never thought of torpor orb as a means to get the card on the field though without dying.

I think you can easily make room for more cards by removing lands. Its a mono deck, you only need 33-34 lands really. I played Phage for a long time and really enjoyed it, but I would recommend playing more big mono black threats, like Grave Titan and Geth, Lord of the Vault that are just very scary unto themselves. And in a mono deck, cards like Strata Scythe just can't miss.
Also, since you're running the Whispersilk Cloak, a solid card like Elbrus, the Binding Blade Flip would be hella fun since it can just make a scary big dude that murders face.
Then if you really want to be mean, you can also play Bitterblossom and Contamination if you just want to shut down the game. Then you just win.
If you want to see my previous deck list, which I've not improved on in a long while, check out -The Impossible Girl-
