The spirit tribe is really interesting when compared to other tribal strategies. instead of being a straightforward aggro like goblins, humans, or merfolk, spirits occupy a similar space as wizard decks due to the number of creatures with severely disruptive abilities. the reason i am deciding to go Esper instead of Bant or just WU is for a couple reasons: first is Lingering Souls which provides up to four 1/1 fliers with a relevant creature type. the second is black's access to hand disruption affects like Collective Brutality which allow for safer spell queller plays and due to the perfect information spells like that provide.

So the basic shell is nothing new. You have Mausoleum Wanderer as your designated one drop. its a pump-able evasive threat that doubles as a pseudo-counterspell. Rattlechains, Selfless Spirit, and Supreme Phantom at 2 providing interaction, protection, and a pump respectively. and then Drogskul Captain and Spell Queller at 3 give another lord effect and another pseudo-counterspell.

Now the main reason for going black is for a little "secret" tech called Lingering Souls that occupies a space as one of the big control staples in modern. I want to take advantage of the tokens being spirits to turn the spell into one of the biggest offesive plays in the deck usually giving you 4-8 power in the air for 2-3 mana. allowing for a go-wide strategy that mirrors the Bant version just trading a lower ceiling for consistency.

because we're running black, we can run Bloodghast which is a solid recur-able threat that happens to have the correct creature type so it can realistically be as large as a 4/3 or 5/4 that never goes away. We also get to play Collective Brutality which we can discard cards like Lingering Souls and Bloodghast to in order to escalate the spell that way even if it's countered we don't really lose anything other than the spell itself since we can just play the spells we discarded later.

lands are pretty basic Hallowed Fountain, Godless Shrine, and Watery Grave in conjunction with Flooded Strand and Polluted Delta for color fixing and Cavern of Souls because we are tribal. We are running a pair of Moorland Haunt so we can turn our dead ghosts into undead ghosts.
