I also forgot to mention that Whip of Erebos was extremely slow and probably should be replaced :(

@ AngryKitten I have removed Lashwrithe and Whip of Erebos in order to make space for a cheaper cmc win con being Bitterblossom. As for Gary and Malikir both of those have to stay just because they do so well with each other. Although, if you really wanted Liliana Vess I guess u could swap out Gatekeeper of Malakir or Vampire Nighthawk since they all play as suedo-removal. Thanks for all your input.

I was just thinking there seemed to be a lack of 2-drops so I think your choice is perfect. Adding Bitterblossom also makes Gray Merchant of Asphodel better since you need the lifegain more so I can see its use.
Also, are you ok with me running this exact build? I don't wanna be "that guy" who steals deck ideas.....but this is exactly the build I would want to run. I just need to get some Bitterblossoms now lol.

Hey 220sn510s, I'm sure you've already thought of this but pretty much every deck with green needs Tarmogoyf. $Deck + >$600 = :(
Anyway, I know Liliana of the Veil is amazing but there are some matchups where she really sucks (B/W tokens for example) so I think she should be max 3 mainboard also because drawing more than one isn't always the best.
I think Geth's Verdict might need to be removed...while it does hit hexproof and indestructible, it also gives your opponent a choice. Choices are bad. I think some suitable replacement removal would be Slaughter Pact or Dismember, give it some thought.
Sidenote, I love this deck with green. If you want to see a similar deck to maybe get some ideas (I don't know how competitive this deck is but it was in my modern folder lol) then check out Phyrexian Cruelty.
I hope I gave you good considerations!

After a brief reread of my comment I realized that Tarmogoyf doesn't really fit with BLACK devotion :P so disregard that section. I guess I could have edited my other comment but I like wasting space apparently.

Feel like I should change the name of the deck to the businessman...... Comments?

why only 3 Grey Merchant of Asphodel? i trust your control gets you to turn 5 right? if so than the merchant becomes a powerhouse cutting like half the life total of your opponents. also, this is a loooong shot. but you could make the deck a little more expensive (mana wise) throw in one or two Heartbeat of Spring and have a late game Abhorrent Overlord with 10 harpies. though i have never played with this deck and you'll probably know better than me about its functions. so these are just ideas for you
July 23, 2015 9:19 a.m.
@jojo1234 While Heartbeat of Spring is a giant "screw you blue moon" it isn't nessasary since it only helps us beat one type of deck when we already have Abrupt Decay and Maelstrom Pulse to fight blood moons (assuming that's why you suggested it). As for the 3 Garys and no other high cmc cards, they just don't work well in modern without serious ramp like the tron lands (Urza's Tower). While I do have a decent amount of control, holding a Gary in my hand for 7 turns doesn't help me progress early game (same problem with overlord) which is important. Thanks for your suggestions though.

Hey, nice deck, +1 :-)
While splashing green, I'd go for Tasigur, the Golden Fang and/or Tarmogoyf. They add less devotion than Bloodghast but are much more powerful. You can take a look at this similar brew for ideas : Golgari Potter !.
July 28, 2015 9:47 a.m.
@ Darkiwi While Goyf and tasigur may seem like strong options, they don't actually help this deck much since (as you stated) they don't provide much devotion which makes Gary and Erebos next to useless cards. Also, I have no way to protect them like grixis control can and no way to get value off of them being in the graveyard like Jund can with stuff like Kolaghan's Command and Scavenging Ooze. Thanks for the suggestions, but I just don't see those two working here.
July 28, 2015 6:05 p.m.
Dropped Gary for tasigur seeing as Gary just sits in my hand my hand most games until around turn 8 and half the time he just gets countered or only hits for 4. Tasigur can usually come out turn 3, is a great attacker/blocker, and is another card advantage engine. Although without Gary, life-loss is even more of a problem in matchups like twin and burn so I guess I'm just waiting for zenikar to come up with some black life gain bomb. Still looking for suggestions as usual.

If you're going for a devotion strategy, having 1-2 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx goes a long way to casting your spells faster.
August 28, 2015 3:51 a.m.
@oxycoon I have tried the shrine before and it just seems to be more trouble than it's worth. For one, it only produces colorless mana (without Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth) until I hit my third land. Thus I can't cast most of my early spells since they require all colored mana. In addition, the excess mana I may get from nykthos at times won't be dumped into anything useful like Damnable Pact or other high mana cost creatures cause my curve stops at 4. Thanks for the suggestion but I just don't like nykthos in this deck.

You might want to reword the description if you're not going to use Gray Merchant.
September 3, 2015 9:22 a.m.
Added Gary back and then removed him again after realizing he usually only hits for 4 damage (which is pathetic for 5 cmc). So I dropped him for bigger threats that can be dropped earlier like tasigur and korlash. In addition, I added more early attackers like gravecrawler so I can be aggressive early game against control and have a lower costing cmc average for the deck.

Hey 220sn510s, I built this deck and tried it out with a few other modern decks. A few discoveries of mine (and feedback from others) are as follows:
I never drew Gray Merchant of Asphodel in any of my games but does it work pretty well in your experience?
Lashwrithe just seemed to speed up the winning if I was in the lead and at 4cmc I want to be dropping something less conditional.
Gatekeeper of Malakir is a nice body on a sac spell but I think an instant speed sacrifice spell would be more effective against indestructibilty/untargetable creatures. Devour Flesh or better yet, Geth's Verdict
Needs more Liliana of the Veil because pwnage.
I think adding green would be pretty epic but that's for another topic....
Anyway, I hope my input helps even a little.
