This is one idea for an event deck alternative. I'm working within these constraints:

• It's an introduction to Dragons of Tarkir. Therefore, most cards must come from DTK, and all must come from DTK or Fate Reforged.

• Total cost under $30.

• Include everything required to play, which means a plan that includes basic lands.

What I came up with was starting with the current Red/Black intro deck, "Relentless Rush", then adding to it.

The first thing we try to do is win early with a bunch of dash creatures. Defenders get tapped by Goblin Heelcutter s, damage gets jacked up by Ambuscade Shaman s, and so on.

If beatdown with the small guys isn't working, the alternative is the D&D plan, Dragons and Demons. Remove cards like Impact Tremors and Mardu Shadowspear , add some land, try to win with big flyers. The R/B dragons have synergy with the remaining dash creatures, and the demons are helpful against opponents trying to go wide.

Currently the intro deck is $14 on Amazon and the additional cards are $14.60 on Channel Fireball. That makes the total $28 and change. And, in addition to the listed cards, we're getting whatever's in the two DTK booster packs from the intro deck.

If we're willing to use cards from Theros for a few months, Titan's Strength and Dragon Mantle are both good cheap additions. If the budget goes up to $40, Monastery Swiftspear becomes an option. At $50, I'd think seriously about Stoke the Flames .
