This is Esper Midrange/Control. It is comprised of hand manipulation, disruption, counters, removal, and beaters. Versatility is key here. This potent brew is positioned very well vs Tier 1 and has few unfavorable matchups.

The Dragon's Lair Modern Monday Event

1st: Lantern Lock – Erik Carlson

2nd: Infect – Brian Karlsson

3rd: CoCo Elves – Tony Fuda

4th: Burn – Scott Patrick

5th: Junk – Joey Cody

6th: Esper Twix – Fran Amati

7th: 8 Rack – Allison Slater

8th: U/R Twin – Tom Pampalone

I made Top 8 Monday night at The Dragon's Lair (18 players), but lost 0-2 to Lantern Lock in the first round.

I had a solid plan vs it - Leyline of Sanctity for mill, Meddling Mage for Bridge, EE for Bridge, and play with 70 cards so he could lose to milling himself.

He had a handful of cards left, but then was able to Academy Ruins Mox Opal over n over so he never drew again. That's when I lost, but it was close.

On a positive note, I did beat Twin and Junk 2-0, making it 3 straight 2-0's vs Twin since Charlotte (8 2-0's altogether and 12 straight wins vs Twin overall).

If your meta is packed with Twin, Twix is definitely an option.

Results:

Round 1 - L

0-2 vs GR Kessig Monsters (Big, fast, and powerful. Very difficult without removals and early Geist clock)

Round 2 - W

2-0 vs Faithless Reanimator (Opponent dropped, so I won by default, but this match was a nightmare without graveyard hate)

Round 3 - W

2-0 vs Junk (I was in the driver's seat both games. Disruption, counters, removals, Sculler, Geist, Elspeth, and Baneslayer were too much pressure)

Round 4 - W

2-0 vs UR Twin (12th straight win vs Twin, 8 of them have been 2-0)

(Drew into Top 8)

Top 8:

Round 1 - L

0-2 vs Lantern Lock

Record: 3-2-1
