Basically it's a deck based on having creatures in your graveyard, but not necessarily reanimating them. Varolz lets you pump up your creatures by exiling other ones from your graveyard. Which is the sole purpose of Death's Shadow. One mana to put 13 +1/+1 counters on a creature, preferably the Birds or Nighthawk.

Has enough removal to control the board, but mostly focuses on sacrificing creatures for effects. Which is why Mindslicer is there; it clears everyone's hand, so you don't have to worry about your opponent's responses and you get stuff in your graveyard.

Other than certain lands, I feel like this deck is good how it is. It almost always finds ways around various types of opponent decks. Suggestions are fine, but unless it's something super effective, I like how it is.
