Deck Strategy

"The Beaters":

Their role is pretty straightforward, to get as big and scary as quickly as possible

  1. Champion of the Parish (This one will usually be your most powerful. It's not uncommon to see him swinging as a 7/7 on turn 4)
  2. Thalia's Lieutenant (This one is still useful late game, because of it's second ability. It's not uncommon to see her swinging as a 5/5 on turn 4)

"The Recruiters":

Their main role is to put tokens onto the field, but some others can double as beaters too

  1. Gather the Townsfolk (Pretty straightforward, it pumps up Champion of the Parish, Thalia's Lieutenant, and Westvale Cult Leader, and helps to activate the abilities of Frontline Medic, Odric, Angelic Overseer and Westvale Abbey)
  2. Lingering Souls (Makes decent early game flying aggression, and chump blocks)
  3. Hanweir Militia Captain/ Westvale Cult Leader (Once flipped, it becomes a token generating machine, and usually will usually be big enough to be a powerful beater and blocker)
  4. Mikaeus the Lunarch (Pumps all your creatures, can be played early on, or late game if you need something huge. A pretty versatile card)

"The Tacticians":

The roles of these creatures is to manipulate the battlefield, to help you slay the opponent in one fell swoop

  1. Frontline Medic (Make all your creatures attacking with the Medic become indestructible, which is nice, you can attack with less worries)
  2. Odric Master Tactician (They don't call him Captain-no-blocks for nothing)
  3. Archangel of Tithes (Useful if your opponent has used all their mana during their previous turn, and it does pretty decently defensively too. Good when your opponent goes wide. Also fills "The Flying Muscle" Role in this deck)

"The Flying Muscle":

These creatures were chosen to be decently big, flying and have something to do with indestructibility, or something game changing.

When things begin to slow down on the ground, take to the skies!

  1. Bygone Bishop (Just play those little guys and enjoy the card advantage)
  2. Angelic Overseer (There will almost always be humans on the field, just block and slay without worrying about it dying or mostly anything that prevents it from attacking)
  3. Westvale Abbey  / Ormendahl, Profane Prince (This one is fun to flip, and is not the hardest thing to do in this deck. Just pay with the souls of five of your tokens and embrace Ormendahl's brute force)

Enchantments and Haters:

  1. Honor of the Pure (Buffs basically everything but Ormendahl, but does he really need it?)
  2. Always Watching (Though it may not affect your tokens, but giving vigilance to your giant beaters, and late game muscle is always nice.
  3. Athreos God of Passage (Basically an enchantment. He can get your creatures back from the dead, Athreos doesn't really become a creature often and is indestructible, so at least he cant be a target of Vapor Snag, Dismember, Demystify, day of judgement or Path to Exile while being an enchantment, which is nice)
  4. Thalia Guardian of Thraben, (great for slowing down your opponent's less creature focused strategies like control)

Planeswalkers:

  1. Sorin, Lord of Innistrad (He works very well for this deck, get those emblems out to pump everything, then 1-2 sets of Vampires, rinse and repeat. His ultimate is pretty sweet too, if you can get to it. Game changing if situation permits)
  2. Gideon Ally of Zendikar (He also works very well in this deck, have him hit as a 5/5, get those 2/2 white knight tokens out (too bad they aren't human) and get those emblems out)
  3. Elspeth, Sun's Champion (This card can win games on it's own. Pump out those soldiers, use the board wipe if advantageous, but most importantly get those emblems out)
