This is my semi-competitive Kaalia build.

I'm very close to being finished making this deck, and a lot of what I'm doing now with the final round of edits is

  • run the right amount, and kinds of removal to deal with threats in the long game.

  • keep within Kaalia's creature base, and have them be relevant for offense and defense.

  • improve the mana ratios so no colors should suffer. Also I want to add a couple of land.

  • cut all the non-essential cards so that draws don't feel wasted at any point in a game.

The cut list is pretty short, and right now I'd say it's:

  • Seizan, Perverter of Truth
  • Kaalia, Zenith Seeker
  • Living Death
  • Thran Dynamo
  • Scheming Symmetry
  • Field of Ruin

I never use Tower, Field of Ruin and the rest of that stack are what I feel are weakest in there right now. Living Death is a LOT of fun when you flip the boardstate but I don't really find that that matters as much now, as the deck's outs are (or can be) more linear which generally means the games don't go as long now and creatures don't tend to pile up in the graveyard.

I already have 2 cards to add in that aren't on the list yet, because I'm waiting for one to arrive in the mail:

  • Animate Dead
  • Worldgorger Dragon

It sets up some loops and mana shenanigans, so I want to see what all the fuss is about. There's a few other things I'd like to add:

  • Linvala, Keeper of Silence
  • Restoration Angel
  • Canyon Slough
  • Sunbaked Canyon
  • Silent Clearing
  • Mana Tithe
  • Wear//Tear

Beyond this, I could def take some suggestions on removal cards. I'm sure I could play around with the 99 some more to make more room, or choose other cards to add in like Vesuva, or i could add in the Wasteland and Strip Mine I have sitting in a different deck. OG dual lands are also a huge want, but that's a budget I can't afford right this second.

I know Kaalia and Mardu in general aren't the best for cEDH but I think this has a chance of doing something. Let me know if I'm sticking too hard and fast to the tribal bit of my general and what removal would better the deck!
