Commander is a unique format and most legends are not great commanders, but are great in the 99 and vice versa. Well, this commander is a little bit of both. The ability to 'group hug' by allowing everyone to draw a card while possibly benefiting greatly from ramp and life-gain makes Selvala, Explorer Returned an ideal in both arenas. Now, running this deck as elves tribal is far too simplistic, combo is too repetitive, and infinite tokens is...well you get the point. So, instead this is a combination of the three with a focus on creating a lot of mana and large x spell casts. Overwhelming the your opponents is typically the best way to push your way to victory. In the case of board wipes, (which are inevitable) we have Heroic Intervention, Selfless Spirit and Flawless Maneuver to protect our rather intimidating, yet fragile board state. For removal, we have a classic interaction suite of instants with Path to Exile, Swords to Plowshares, Beast Within and Krosan Grip. For our board wipes, we only run one with Winds of Abandon being the one of choice since it doesn't effect our board state at all. Oh and Ajani, Strength of the Pride can also serve the same role, if need be.

The deck runs 32 lands with 6 to 7 fetches (changes every once in a while). The low land count is compensated with the fact that the average CMC ≈ 2.8 and there are 14 creatures that produce mana or find lands that are CMC ≤ 3. This allows you to rapidly put several creatures on the board in a single turn.
