With the release of all then new dual sided lands from MH3 this deck has gotten major improvements to it's mana base. I'm still feeling out the adjustments this allows for to improve consistency. If you have any suggestions feel free to let me know.

How To Win With Only Spells

Our first step in winning with this deck is putting our entire deck into our graveyard. We have 3 creatures that can do this for us:

Using one of these creatures, target yourself with their ability. As we have no lands in our deck, the result of all of these is our entire deck being place in our graveyard.

Now as there are only 3 of these creatures, we have ways to make sure we find them. Those being regular black tutors, and:

If you manage to flip your deck upside down, Congrats! you've finished step one to winning with only spells.

Now with our deck in our graveyard, we need to set the field a little bit.

We need at least three creatures we control on the battlefield.

You may have that many already just from your mana dorks and the guy that flipped your deck upside down, but if not, we have a couple options to try and get up to the magic number of 3. In order from easiest to return, to hardest, they are:

  1. Narcomoeba The easiest, as soon as it is put in the graveyard from your library, it comes to the battlefield.

  2. Bloodghast You need to have a land enter the battlefield to return this one to the battlefield. Since most of our lands come in tapped anyway, holding on to a land in your had to play after your library is in your graveyard isn't that hard. (If you have the land in hand to spare)

  3. Combat Courier Nice and simple, pay one blue to unearth this little body.

  4. Dregscape Zombie Nice and simple, part two: Black edition. Just pay one black to unearth this body.

  5. Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis Hogaak is the hardest creature to return from our graveyard to the field. With our entire deck in our graveyard, paying the of his cost is very easy by delving. The hard part is that you need at least 2 green or black creatures untapped to pay the convoke for his color fixing.

Once you have 3 creatures on the field, it's time to move on to the next step,

Finally, it's time for us to win, with a lovely little card in our graveyard: Dread Return

We sacrifice the three creatures we prepared on the field, in order to return one creature from our graveyard: Thassa's Oracle

As we have no cards in our deck, we win!

However, Counterspell exists, so we do have a couple backups. Not as good, but will do in a pinch

In case you miss your Dread Return, we have two backups.

  • Unburial Rites A bit expensive to flashback at , but it's there just in case.

  • Memory's Journey Easy to flashback at , this won't win you the game outright, but should set you up to take it in the next couple turns. As well as preventing you from losing from not having a library any more.

And for if you can't get Thassa's Oracle we have Laboratory Maniac. Not as good, but can still snag a win in needed.

Hope you like this little mess. This deck is a personal concoction, and suggestions are very welcome.

Enjoy!
