@ScourgeOfGod Aether Theorist and Aethertide Whale are pretty good. I'd have change the build a little and throw Dynavolt in the main board. I'll definitely consider it though :)

@Abedds If I lose 2 things and go more Gearhulks I'll be more susceptible to aggro than I was before. As for Epiphany, I've never tried it before. It just looked like a flexible draw spell to have as a 1 of. If it doesn't work out I'll definitely add another Glimmer or Gearhulk. Thx for the suggestions :)

I have been playing this deck at FNM and gone 3-1, 3-0, and 2-1. Some changes I made were as follows.
MainBoard
Drop a scatter for a 3rd Gearhulk
Drop 2 Unsubs for a Rise from the Tides and a Jace, Unraveler of Secrets
Drop the Epiphany at the Drownyard for a 3rd Baral
Drop an Island for Grip of the Roil
SideBoard
Drop both Rejections for 2 Shielded Aether Thief
Drop both chilling grasps for a Grip of the Roil and an Unsubstantiate

@GamingInTheDark Thx for the comment. Looks pretty smart I just dropped Jace cuz he is sorcery speed.

Idk if anyone said it yet but in mono-blue I've always thought Identity Thief and Thing in the Ice Flip seemed super troll mode but also super hilarious if it could be pulled off.

It is admittedly super dumb but Identity Thief doesn't get etb triggers when it becomes a copy, so every time it attacks its a Thing in the Ice Flip flip, highly impractical but I feel like it would be funny. Also would essentially bounce Torrential Gearhulk if you made a copy of it so you would have an etb trigger at the end of every turn that the thief attacks

Hmm very interesting. But how does Identify Thief immediately turn into Awoken Horror Flip? Mtg rules specifically state that the last ice counter has to be removed by an instant or sorcery.

When Thing in the Ice Flip enters the battlefield it gets the ice counters, and Identity Thief etb' s as itself and transforms when it attacks so since it's not entering the battlefield at that time only transforming, so no ice counters. Then Thing in the Ice Flip doesn't say that it flips when the last counter is removed it states, "then if there are no ice counters flip it" you could be right on that tho since it does have the word "then" in there but people I have asked seem to agree that's what would happen, I'll try and find a ruling on it to further clarify.

I just checked the rulings on Thing in the Ice Flip and you were right one of the rules says something along the lines of "if the counters were to be removed any other way it will not flip", I had honestly not double checked as most people at my lgs had been in agreement on that scenario, sorry for any inconvenience

I'm just now realizing how much of an idiot I sound like and that you literally said that very thing lol. Sorry again!

@darklinglion398 No Inconvenience at all :) I'm not even a rule fanatic or anything I just have built several decks based around titi so I just happened to read the specific rulings on it

not sure this will be of any help to you, but i've been messing around w/ a couple control decks lately & you might be able to glean some ideas off of them:
deck 1: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/energyspiritcontrol-fiesta-time-happy-pants/
deck 2: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/nyquil-xanax/
the first is a mono-blue energy control deck. The engine is Dynavolt Tower plus Glimmer of Genius with some spirit synergy sprinkled in. I love the IDEA of both Baral & thingy Flip, but w/ the emergence of Fatal Push, they seem less effective overall. the rest is similar to what you already have, tho i think i focused heavier on counters rather than bounces, which i'm not 100% on tbh
second deck is an Izzet Fevered deck based around Fevered Visions (duh), & (mostly) instant-speed draw&burn cards. i kno yr running mono-blue, but figured maybe you could get some ideas abt alternative blue spells to use in yr own. for instance, Grip of the Roil, in my experience, is a killer card w/ that surge cost, & i kno Docent of Perfection Flip is high-cost but i wanna say 80% of the games i've played w/ this deck i've managed to flip him by turn 6, which is fucking DEVASTATING for the opponent & hilarious 4u. also, again, i kno yr running mono blue, but i'd at least CONSIDER splashing red for Fevered Visions bc the combo of every-turn card draw + bouncing their permanents = they're almost always gonna take dmg. unless of course they're aggro, then you sideboard the fevah out for more blockers (Niblis of Frost, much like docent Flip, has performed extremely well for me in most scenarios)
hope this helps!!!

I think one or two mainboard Part the Waterveil would work well as a wincon I try to fit extra turn spells into all of my control decks :)
Hope this helped nice deck! +1

I think Waterveil is better for Metallurgic Summonings deck. I personally would rather run more Gearhulks or counterspells

Thing in the ice dies too easily fatal push and grasp of darkness can take It out the turn it is cast unless you storm it out late game even then it's probably not going to last long. Hexproof is a supper important ability right now in the sideboard.

I'd drop them get another gearhulk and metalurgic summons or 2 go wide and then do it again maybe keep one thing in the ice in the main until you know they're not running black and then side them in game 2
March 22, 2017 12:25 a.m.
The problem is if I do that, it will be much harder to keep up with aggro decks. Also almost everyone at my LGS are budget players, so I'm not to worried. If fatal push was heavy at my lgs I would definitely change the build though. Thx for the comment :)
