You might want to add some copies of Commit / Memory, as this can tuck Carnage Tyrant and then shuffle him away.

@TotallyHaywire I was just looking at it like 10mins ago. I'm definetly going to main board 1 or 2. Thank you for the suggestion :)

If Carnage Tyrant is the only card holding it back, just play a bigger threath to block and kill it. For , Slinn Voda, the Rising Deep can do that. For on less mana, at , Accomplished Automaton can be a 6/8, just enough to kill Carnage Tyrant while surviving the fight!

@CaptDan Yes I recently added Slinn Voda, the Rising Deep to sideboard. I may move it to mainboard if my lgs has to many Carnage Tyrant's.

You could play River's Rebuke, its a mass bounce spell that only targets a player

@Thebiggalactus Yes I do have it in the maybeboard. I may put it in if I find that I can't handle aggro well enough. I think it will handle it ok though. Rivers Rebuke can return Carnage Tyrant but only for 1 turn. Then they'd just play it again, and I'd have the same problem again. Also I really don't like the sorcery speed. It doesn't fit to well with the deck. Everything is instant except for 1 copy of Nezahal. Thx for the suggestion though :D

True, if your but it will hamper their tempo severely. Another card you could look at maybe putting in the sideboard is Vizier of Many Faces. It could handle those big creatures in aggro and midrange. The bonus is that it's recursive.

Ipnu Rivulet is great. After Commiting the tyrant you can make them mill it. It also is good against Approach of the Second Sun

Looks really good! So many counters! I agree that the one issue for the deck is Carnage Tyrant and I think you have explored most of those options already. The on area the deck is lacking is in many of the utility lands. Ipnu Rivulet seems good as a way to potentially mill a spell you Committed. Field of Ruin to get rid of the pesky flip lands. Scavenger Grounds for some main deck graveyard hate. You could also run a few Desert of the Mindful for late game when you need action and not lands. I am sure you are aware of these cards, but in a mono colored deck there is little reason to not run some utility in your land spots.

It's nice to see real 'Draw, go' magic in standard again.

Best of luck!

@Thebiggalactus That's not a bad idea. I think I might get a couple and playtest with them. I do feel like this deck can keep creatures off the board quite well though.

@Legendary_penguin_of_death Ipnu Rivulet is really great suggestion. I didn't even think about it. I do find that 1 life can make all the difference with this deck, but the Commit then mill, is so good against Carnage Tyrant. I'll definetly run 2

@Cragon18 Thank you for the awesome suggestions. I have decided to run all of those except Desert of the Mindful. I feel like Memorial to Genius is a little bit better for this build. Appreciate the comment :)

Arch of Orazca could be a good shout here, a bit of filtering late game never hurt and the utility land would be nice. To that same end while I know you are aware of it and likely don't want to pay for it, Search for Azcanta is a must for control in my opinion you can get by without it but the difference between the two is huge.

@Oloro_Magic I did used to have Arch of Orazca in this deck but I decided to switch to Memorial to Genius. As it's quite hard to get the city's blessing in this deck. As for Search for Azcanta  Flip it seems like quite a good card. I don't like the fact that it just sorcery speed, but I guess it is only 2 mana so that's not too bad at all. I don't like how Field of Ruin can target it but I like as an enchantment though. It's a great suggestion, I think if I get my hands on a couple copies I'll definetly try it out. Thanks for the comment :)

Have you considered bringing Baral, Chief of Compliance to the mainboard? If then you could run Wizard's Retort which has been really useful for me at least. Also, Precognition Field is a janky card thats fun to play.

April 30, 2018 10:46 a.m.

I was able to test it vs a green red monsters deck, a black green saproling deck, and a vechiles deck yesterday. It went pretty even honestly with me losing some and my opponents losing some. Just two things that i noticed with this deck.

  1. You need to be really careful when you play nezahul. Unless your opponent has nothing to do in hand or you're confident it will won't matter DO NOT TAP OUT TO CAST NEZAHUL. I did this vs the monsters deck and they got to resolve a pheonix and and a glorybringer and punish me hard.

2.Being on the draw in this deck can hurt you alot. Your opponent gets to basically play thier first 2 turns unhindered and with cards like Scrapheap Scrounger and Steel Leaf Champion you could lose the game cause they played something turn 2.

Otherwise the deck ran well and was fun to play (for me anyway). If anyone wants to play this at fnm feel free. You won't be dominating your LGS going 2-0 gg ez everygame but you will have a good time if this is your idea of fun magic.

@Shliken I used to run Baral back in Kaladesh/Revolt Standard. He was really good but I feel like its more effective to run more instants. Also Admiral's Orderis actually better than Wizard's Retort if your only wizard is Baral, just sayin. I do own a playset of him so I may try playtesting with him, he may be better than I'm expecting. Thanks for the suggestion :D

@GamingInTheDark Thank you for sharing your score and advice. I definetly agree with you on Nezahal. In playtesting I've found that I do need to be quite careful before casting him. Spell Swindle has been working wonders for me though. Let's me potentially cast him turn 6 and still have mana for a counterspell if necessary. Man I feel ya, being on the draw with this deck does sting a lot. You just got to hope you've got Unsummon in your hand. The only other big weaknesses that I've found is Prowling Serpopard and Carnage Tyrant. I'm hoping Commit / Memory and Ipnu Rivulet can handle them ok though. I am curious, were you running this exact same decklist, or did you change some things? If so, if you wouldn't mind sharing, what were the changes and how did they work for you?

May 1, 2018 2:54 p.m.

It's wasn't the same deck list but it was VERY close. Main board instead of running Disallow i'm running Cancel. Purely for budget reasons. Outside of me being cheap i'm running baral in place of the opt and 2 censors in place of the Negate and the Unwind. This is just a personal meta thing since most of the decks I face are creature decks and having a turn 2 counter is really helpful. Land wise I don't have any of the utility lands yet outside of Field of Ruin. I have been enjoying a 2 of Zhalfirin Void though. Most of my changes are Side board.

@Agusdakilla They go super good with Nezahal to buff him up! Naw jk that was total accident. Thanks for catching that.
