I took out the Voyaging Satyr and the Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth in favor of 4 Polukranos, World Eater and 2 Heir of the Wilds I felt this might be a better way to go to make the deck more competitive. Although I have been debating on 4x Heir of the Wilds and 2x Setessan Tactics. Does anyone have any thoughts or advice on this?

I also took out the 2x Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx in favor of 2x more Heir of the Wilds I really if ever used the Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx ability so I decided to take it out in favor of increasing draws of Heir of the Wilds.

I've tested, and the reason you have trouble against RDW is simply lack of planning. Out 4 Bile Blight in 4 Drown in Sorrow tuck those 4 Bile Blight in the SB for Rabble Red. Out 2 Elvish Mystic, in 2 Reaper of the Wilds That should help a bit.

Should those substitutions also help against agro and control? What do I take out of the SB to make room for the Bile Blight?

They help in general. 2 Despise and 2 Rakshasa Deathdealer to answer your question. In the sb you also need answers for artifacts and enchantments. I'd go with 2 Reclamation Sage for 2 Herald of Torment

Cool, thanks for the help. Hopefully those additions will help make this deck more competitive.

The maindecked playset of Drown in Sorrow seems excessive, unless your metagame is almost totally weenies and RDW aggro.if this isn't the case, you might consider other possibilities. First is card draw. You'll quickly run out of threats against control, especially Esper and Sultai. Their copies of Dig Through Time will be really dangerous and it'll be hard to keep up in the mid to late-game. So what about finding room for Eidolon of Blossoms? You've got Courser already, and you've got your Whip of Erebos, too. I know, not enough enchantments? Doomwake Giant might fit the bill as a 3 or even 4-of. He is easily ramped to. He totally hoses RDW, and is functionally a Drown attached to a threat against that deck. If you go for him but not Blossoms (though I say test with both), put a couple Read the Bones or Sign in Blood on your SB, as it may truly help against control with Blue.

+1, cool Golgari deck.

You run awful high numbers of legendary creatures, as well as many of the same planesewalker. A bit dangerous; that will give you dead draws, potentially several. I'd strongly suggest you not run more than 3 of a creature that there can only be one of on the field. Consider dropping at least one of Liliana Vess and Polukranos, World Eater. You may enjoy Ranger's Guile, considering how removal heavy standard is right now. Against blue, black, or white, I doubt you'll be able to keep Polukranos alive long enough to make him monstrous without some manner of protection. Mortal's Resolve also has its merits in such a capacity and helps against a slightly different range of threats(it can save you from a destroy-based field sweep but not an exile), but overall I'd suggest the former.

So far I am going to reduce the number of Polukranos, World Eater and Liliana Vess by one each, and sub in 2x Doomwake Giant. I'm unsure of how many Read the Bones to put in the SB and what to take out. I like the suggestion of Ranger's Guile as this will help Polukranos, World Eater stick around against removal spells, should I run 2x, and put 2x in the SB? I agree about the Drown in Sorrow I'm going to take it down to 2x and put the other 2x in the sideboard and taking out 2x Bile Blight. 2x of Eidolon of Blossoms might be beneficial here, but I feel like if I did that I would need to add more enchantments considering it's a 2/2 for 4 which is a pretty high casting cost if you're not really using it's full potential.

I think I have a more favorable matchup against RDW now with the additions I've made, but I'm still losing to control. Anyone care to playtest and see what I'm missing? I think I might take Erebos, God of the Dead out of my sideboard and replace with Eidolon of Blossoms, any thoughts on this?

Death Frenzy in sideboard for rdw, etc.. I understand it may be too high a drop, But hear me out... You're up against Rabble Red with 3 Death Frenzy in sideboard and You throw them in game 2. By turn 5 your Courser of Kruphix, Sylvan Caryatid, and Reaper of the Wilds or Polukranos, World Eater have done all they can to the growing goblin horde, and then BAM! Death Frenzy. After the smoke clears, their side is cleared, you're lifes replenished, and perhaps you Scry 1'd repeatedly with Reaper of the Wilds to find Whip of Erebos or Liliana Vess. It's the nail in the coffin for any RDW style deck, and you don't have to feel too bad about killing Elvish Mystic with it too. Anyway, +1 the deck is different I really like it. The subtle use of the constellation is awesome.

I thought about adding in Death Frenzy when making this, but the casting cost is just too high. Especially when I could just monstrous Polukranos, World Eater and be done with the tokens, and goblins.

Any suggestions as to how I can make this a little faster?

You don't run a lot of lands, but your average CMC is pretty high. You also only run 2 of the fastest mana-dork in standard, and it's notable that Elvish Mystic is by far at his best when he comes out turn 1 or 2. I'd say up your land count, up your number of cheap mana-dorks, and see what high CMC things can come out or be cut down on. I'd consider dropping Doomwake Giant to side-board, or even entirely. You only run 7 enchantments, so his destructive power is extremely limited. You run bile blight and drown in sorrows in the side-board, so he feel a bit redundant for the niche he fills. And turn 4 or 5, there's a good chance that an agro-token deck already has you at death's door. I'd also go on record as not much liking Heir of the Wilds; you only run 7 creatures that could trigger his ferocious ability, and without that, he's rather lackluster.

punxwin says... #16

Yes, but I also run 4 Sylvan Caryatid those combined with the 2 Elvish Mystic makes for 26 lands. I can have Doomwake Giant or Polukranos, World Eater out by turn three. Turn one elf turn two caryatid and then my land for turn 3 and either polukranos or doomwake. If I take anything out what do you suggest replacing it with?

-1 Liliana Vess, -1 Doomwake Giant, +2 Eidolon of Blossoms

Eidolon of Blossoms is like the best constellation card. Don't worry about dropping the Doomwake because the extra eidolon will help you draw it anyway. It also evens out your curve.

Done and done. For whatever reason this deck is running poorly just like my other constellation deck, constellation at its finest. I can't seem to do well against control or blue white heroic, have you run into this problem?

Quadsimotto says... #19

How about Reaper of the Wilds She is super tough to get rid of having a 5 toughness, and being able to deathtouch and hexproof herself. same CMC as the world eater. I would up the count of bile blight in the side for weenies or add Drown in Sorrow as it wrecks those token decks too and only really hurts your mystics and maggots. Since you are ramp i would add a one of In Garruk's Wake that card will lopside the board in a second if you can hit the nine CMC to cast it. (with your ramp and fixing it should be possible often enough) maybe add one copy of Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx to help ramp as well.

punxwin says... #20

I can contain a lot of the token decks, because of Doomwake Giant and using his trigger. The main problem I have is against control I have been testing against them and cannot seem to stop Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver, and their copies of Perilous Vault. Boardwipes seem to be what I would want to do, but a 9 drop for In Garruk's Wake isn't something I'd be able to hit. Is Reaper of the Wilds the better card option compared to Polukranos, World Eater? He's super effective against token decks. A copy of Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx might be a good addition. I was thinking about adding in See the Unwritten?

Could someone explain to me why Garruk, Apex Predator's -8 ability is so good? Haha thanks

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but giving any creature +5/+5 and trample when it attacks an opponent is pretty sweet.

McSween7 says... #23

No sarcasm don't worry. But it says. Target opponent gets an emblem with "whenever a creature attacks it gets +5 +5 and trample"...i mean...wtf?

January 4, 2015 10:39 a.m.

punxwin says... #24

Target opponent gets an emblem with "whenever a creature attacks YOU it gets +5/+5 and trample". So you give the opponent the emblem and then swing with an Elvish Mystic for 6 trample. Or the death touch beasts that were produced are now swinging for 8 trample, it's a crazy good ultimate.
