Aspect of Mongoose is solid IMO for sac fodder with a purpose

@Artemis_Swift: Yeah, Orzhov decks are popping up in my playgroup right now (Athreos, God of Passage, Teysa, Orzhov Scion, Obzedat, Ghost Council). As they're all pretty reliant on their graveyard, I'm considering running more graveyard hate. Against Athreos, you have to bite the bullet and pay 3 life in many cases...
@Ninja_Claw: I had Aspect of Mongoose in my initial draft and found it too irrelevant. Most creature removal in my playgroup is instants, so it didn't really do any good. I got on with only Rancor for recursible (is that a legit word?) enchantment sac fodder, until I found Spreading Algae. Now THAT's sac fodder with purpose...
Thanks for your suggestions!

And I just realized the synergy between Spreading Algae and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth.

@Artemis_Swift: Yeah, I thought about adding it, but enough other players already run it in their lists, so chances are good that I can enchant Maze of Ith and its like. Personally, I don't see Spreading Algae as land destruction but as enchantment sac fodder. The land destruction effect is very nice, though.

Spreading Algae + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is something I've never seen before. Going to be tweaking my own Shattergang Brothers deck soon. I really needed another Rancor effect (sac and get it back) and this fits perfectly.

So aside from going into a artifacty sub-theme with Daretti, Scrap Savant + Goblin Welder I think the closest thing we'll get for awhile is Hangarback Walker. Fetchable with Worldly Tutor, Vampiric Tutor etc..

How about Dark Prophecy for card draw?
If your worried about your opponent using their graveyards and the cards you put there against you you could use Ground Seal or get rid of them slowly with Scavenging Ooze and Relic of Progenitus or get rid of it all together with cards like Tormod's Crypt or use their graveyard against them with cards like Grave Betrayal and Rise of the Dark Realms

@Mandalorian: Dark Prophecy's cost is a little too prohibitive for my taste. I run Kothophed, Soul Hoarder, which is more expensive, but easier on colored mana and a beater.
As for graveyard hate, I run Scavenging Ooze, Nihil Spellbomb, Deathrite Shaman and Bojuka Bog, that seems to be enough for most games.
I don't want my opponents keeping threats on the board. To achieve that, I have to have sac fodder and open mana. Tapping out for Grave Betrayal or Rise of the Dark Realms gives my opponents time to develop their boards, which makes it harder for me to remove the real threats. So I would have to cast these when my opponent's boards are relatively empty, and then I'm already winning...

One card I always think of when I see Shattergang, is Hammer of Purphoros, sure it needs a land to create the token, but the token can be fodder for any of Shattergang's abilities, likewise the Hammer itself can be fodder for at least two of them.

@Takno: I tested it in the first stages of this deck. I took it out because I used/needed it very rarely. But I probably should test it again. I run 5 mass removals now, a 3/3 haste attacker could come in handy after clearing the board... And yes, having a permanent with all relevant types is very comfortable.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Primal Growth is a great ramp spell in a deck based on sacrificing creatures! 3 mana spell that gives two lands into play untapped!
+1 for nice Jund deck! :)

@Kopojken: Primal Growth would replace a card in the ramp section of this deck (all permanents), so I have to choose between having an additional sac outlet or having an additional permanent to sac.
An additional sac outlet is only profitable if I control Grave Pact and its ilk or Smothering Abomination.
An additional artifact/creature to sac with the brothers helped me out lots of times.
So yes, Primal Growth is a great ramp spell, but I won't use it in here.
Thanks for the suggestion and the +1!

Why not try Squee, Goblin Nabob as a sac target?
November 27, 2015 3:53 a.m.
hyperlocke says... #15
@MTGcountertop: Hmm, never thought of him...
But I already run three recurrable creatures. And Bloodghast, Reassembling Skeleton and Nether Traitor cost less to return to the battlefield and I can do it instantly (well, I need a fetchland for Bloodghast and another dying creature for Nether Traitor, but still...) Three recurrable creatures is plenty enough, so Squee is out.

@chirz2792: I thought about it. I tested it. It was good. Not phenomenal, but good. I run it. I updated the deck to include it. Seems like T/O was buggy again and discareded the edit... Let's try again.

Synergy with cards already in your list:
Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder
Butcher of Malakir
Bloodline Keeper
Flip
Myr Battlesphere
Nether Traitor
Prossh, Skyraider of Kher
Reassembling Skeleton
Dictate of Erebos
I highly recommend Bitterblossom if you have the $$$. if you are concerned about the life loss you can include Savra, Queen of the Golgari and switch out Myr Battlesphere for Avenger of Zendikar.
Also Tymaret, the Murder King has won me many more games than any 5+ mono black creature I have ever tried in my Shattergang Brothers deck. He's awesome starting T3 vs Planeswalkers and awesome vs anybody late game.

@kengiczar: Oh man, Shivan Harvest seems great! I wanted to include some form of land hate and looked at Army Ants, because it fits with the Brothers' "Tit for Tat" mentality. But sacrificing my lands seemed a little too harsh when I already sac my mana rocks to get rid of artifacts. This goes straight in.
Bitterblossom: I'd like to, but it's too expensive.
Savra, Queen of the Golgari: I thought about her when I first constructed the deck, but I realized that I have too few green creatures to sacrifice to get my life back. I run the Battlesphere over the Avenger because it's more aggressive and gives me artifacts and creatures to sac.
Tymaret, the Murder King: Never got around to testing him. I guess now is the time...
Thanks for your suggestions!

I want this to run Darksteel Relic just so you can give the group you are playing with a sly look as you play it that says, "That's right. There's only one reason this is coming into play and you all know exactly what that is..."
January 19, 2016 7:25 a.m.
Relic is just fun for that because it serves no purpose other than as a sac... not really a competitive option, just fun.

Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest is absolutely nuts in any kind of sacrifice deck. (From the Meren Pre-Con, Meren herself would be decent too.)
February 10, 2016 8:04 p.m.
hyperlocke says... #24
@Tollumnius: Thought about Mazirek, but I really don't care about making my creatures stronger. I have enough big hitters as it is, and when I got control of the board, one or two extra turns don't matter that much.
I actually tested Meren. She is on of the strongest commanders from the 2015 pre-cons and is played a lot at my LGS. People have learned to remove her on sight. Sadly, they also do this if she is part of the 99. She never stayed for more than a turn, and paying 4 mana to maybe return a creature from my graveyard to my hand is not a good play.
Thanks for your suggestions!

Ghoulcaller Gisa for more creatures, and Gravecrawler because reanimation. Not sure how well they work for you but I like em.

Tested out my version of the Shatterbros deck against an Athreos, God of Passage commander. It was going in my favor until I made a misplay, Searched for the wrong card and got mana screwed long enough for the opponent to stabilize. Didn't help that I had no way of removing Athreos because of a lack of enchantments to sac.
Going back to the drawing board to further refine the deck's ideas.
What irritates me the most is the only reason my opponent's deck beat me was Athreos.
