Flooremoji tbh they're more likely just like regular jund but better. You lose Liliana and Bloodbraid, but gain a very solid mid-game value engine that can also loop stuff like Nihil Spellbomb and Seal of Fire. You also have good excuses to run artifacts and enchantments which boost Goyf.

ToolmasterOfBrainerd: Yhea, but if lurrus dies you loose your entire engine until you can get him back. Graveyard hate becomes more effective, and you have to use more mana to get recuring vaule where previously you could just +1 Lilli.
Maybe I'm just having trouble accepting that jund is cutting some of the more iconic jund cards?

You don't lose your entire engine at all. You just lose the 8th card that was in your opening hand. And if you wait until turn 5 to play it then you can immediately cast a Goyf from the bin and then it was a 5 mana Bloodbraid Elf but better.
The upside of Lurrus is the card value. It doesn't need to stick around. Even if you get 1 Mishra's Bauble off of it before they Bolt it, you're up 2 cards. That kind of play is right up Jund's alley.
On losing the iconic cards... I completely agree that it's tragic. I hate how pushed the new cards have been in the last year. Core 2020, Eldraine, and Theros have all gotten cards banned. And now Ikoria is heading there too (not counting that commander crap). I don't want to play 'Standard but with better support for the broken cards'. I want to play modern.

I’m personally not a fan of Lurrus as a gameplan. I like the traditional gameplay of Jund. Lurrus makes the deck seems too linear imo. It can have a grindy late game. But it’s too gimmicky for my playstyle.
I’ll be sticking with OG Jund regardless of what that means going forward. I fully expect a ban on Lurrus or a complete re-write of the companion rules.

what is the reason not to play some seasoned pyromancers as they work very well with kroxa

car the double red cmc of Seasoned Pyromancer can be taxing on the mana base. In a Blood Moon heavy meta I could see running it.

ok thank you makes sense. i also had questions about hexdrinker dreadbore and if bloodbraid elf should still be a 4 of even with kroxa

So I'm looking into building jund, and have been checking out a lot of lists. I'm wondering if you are planning on switching to more of a rakdos shell spalshing green with another kroxa and cutting the scavenging ooze becasue the activation cost is more restrictive and graveyard decks are going down in playability?

I_Want_To_PlayAllTheDecks I don’t plan on going heavy Rakdos. Scooze is Tarmogoyfs 5-7. The graveyard ability is flexible and can be used against any recursive strategy. I was running 3 Kroxa up until recently. 3 copies doesn’t work as well because the escape cost is pretty balanced. Escaping more than once is difficult unless the game really goes long.

Love the list! Some questions for your thoughts and experiences:
-
24 lands feels like a lot with W&6 being able to bring them back. Do you feel like this number of lands is required even with a way to replay lands?
-
Notably you don't play Ignoble Hierarch and Dauthi Voidwalker. Any specific reason these don't make the cut?
-
I read through your notable new releases and wanted to ask what you thought of Graveyard Trespasser Flip and Arlinn, the Pack's Hope Flip. Arlinn is reminiscent of huntmaster and Trespasser has GY hate + 2-for-1's spot removal.
-
How often do you, if ever, play 2 Dark Confidant in a game? Currently running 1 (especially since I don't have any foil W&6), but I want to run more but I don't know if I can justify getting more than 1 in a game. Like if my life total can even handle it without inherent life gain.
Thanks for your dedication to the list and the page is wonderful :)

Thanks for the kind remarks TheBubbaEA!

I go between 23/24 lands depending on how fast the meta is. In a slower meta I like 3 Ravines. In a fast meta I go down to 2. 24 lands also minimize the pain from Bob, who also gets trimmed in fast metas.
-
Ignoble Hierarch is good in a Lurrus build. It cuts into the discard slots, which I prefer to have be my T1 spell. T2 Liliana is broken though so it comes down to preference.
-
Dauthi Voidwalker would be a meta call. The not being able to block gives me second thoughts on Mainboarding it. It also worsens Goyf early game. You could probably run it in place of Goyf though but is it still Jund if you do so???
-
Having a 4 drop that isn’t BBE is a hard call. Arlinn is good but I think I’d rather have another Grist.
-
Graveyard Trespasser Flip looks interesting. I could see it taking the place of Klothys since it can actually attack unlike Klothys in most games. It pairs nicely with Voidwalker too.
-
I have definitely won games with double Bob in play. Lol. I have also lost games because of him. But that’s the price we play for running the GOAT.
I’m curious what Crimson Vow will bring to the table.

This seems like a great guide, but sadly I can't weigh in on how good it is since it's quite difficult to read. Perhaps changing the background away from thrun or changing the text color to something high-contrast like orange would help?

Thanks DoctorDiabeetus I’ve been searching for a darker background image. I will make some edits.

Im surprised to see Bloodbraid Elf in here as a 4-of! Not many people have been high on it lately (me included). I've really enjoyed Seasoned Pyromancer in that 4-of slot. Anything in your testing that made you feel differently?

DotaFerShota I’m not a fan of Saga or Monkey. I haven’t tried Spyro since it first came out. I’ve been on BBE for some time now. I didn’t like the deck with Spyro, Kroxa, Scooze, and Goyf. I decided to cut Spyro because of the double red.

Whats the Gelatinous Cube for in the mainboard? Saga tokens?
April 18, 2022 3:23 p.m.
Chasmolinker says... #18
DotaFerShota Yes. It’s a decent body that can hit most relevant creatures in the format. Murktide Regent, Saga Tokens, Rhino Tokens, Death's Shadow, Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger, Omnath, Locus of Creation, and a bunch more. Plus it can get around removal with the Engulf ability if needed for smaller threats. It also works as a decoy for the opponent’s removal since 4 power can beat down pretty good.

Banefire seems like a out of place addition. What's the reasoning on its inclusion?
May 2, 2023 5:20 a.m.
Chasmolinker says... #20
Thanks for the feedback MTWEmperor!
Banefire was added as a mana sink late game where you just need to get the few last points of damage through. It is great against grindy control match-ups since it can't be countered at X=5+. It can kill bigger threats than lightning bolt in a pinch. And on top of all of that, it's only 1 damage when Bob flips it. The deck tends to get a lot of lands in play especially with Wrenn and Six so it fits well as a late game Win-Con.

Do you know people are trying to make lurrus work in jund?
All of the lurrus decks seem just like a regular jund deck but worse.
