Yeaaaaah Assassin's Trophy! It'll be loathsome to play against, but hey, at least it's going to push Tron out of the meta!

Can’t wait. It seems they are really going against tron lately. Damping Sphere, Alpine Moon, and now Assassin's Trophy.

DarkStarStorm: Assassin's Trophy will not push tron out of the meta. other cards have already tried. Damping Sphere is amazing against tron, but i've seen no shortage of tron players at my LGS since the card was released.

Assassin's Trophy could simplify Jund’s removal package to just bolt, Push, and trophy while gaining mainboard land destruction for tron. It’s gonna change the format. Humans really suffers as well.

Abzan really gains a boost with now access to both terminate and path

How often do you cast a Maelstrom Pulse targetting anything that will give you a 2-for-1?

Just pre-ordered a playset of Assassin's Trophy for $100!

Fingers crossed they go ahead with the deal and send the cards :/

DarkStarStorm, Only against one guy at my LGS who runs Tokens. Even then, it can be tricky because he can leave up Push and just kill the token in response. More often than not it kills a Sorin or Gideon with the ultra rare multiple Intangible Virtue hit. (It's normally too late when that happens.)

Outside of that, it's very rare. It can be good in the GB/x mirror when they run out multiple Goyfs or Grim Flayers against Abzan.

I really hope Assassin's Trophy streamlines the removal suite.

bolt, Push, K-Command, and Trophy sounds a lot more streamlined and hopefully will be all we need to stay competitive. I would still board in Abrupt Decay against UW/x over Push though.

Rabid_Wombat: you really should have waited to buy those Assassin's Trophy. the card will surely go down from $25 as packs get opened and supply increases. the pre-order prices always get intentionally jacked up through the roof so that online stores can rip people off because they know players want hyped cards asap.

I'm so jealous of bgx right now. Assassin's trophy looks so good.

Between trophy, path, field of ruin, and the relative strength of blood moon right now, it seems like a great time to be playing plenty of basics.

Chasmolinker says... #10

Haha. Yes. I'm now running 5 basic lands. Jund Ponza variants look like a possibility now too.

ToolmasterOfBrainerd Trophy and Blood Moon are a bit counter-intuitive.

September 12, 2018 4:37 p.m.

DarkStarStorm I'm not saying play them together, but rather, as a concession to a possible upcoming meta, having plenty of basics available should allow you to capitalize on these kinds of cards.

Is it too much to ask for a card with a dimir watermark that doesn't suck? Seriously that guild always gets straight garbage. I can think of modern and legacy staples in Golgari, Boros, and Azorius. Izzet, Rakdos, Gruul, and Selesnya get close, or have had cards which see at least a little play. Even simic cards see pretty heavy commander play. But dimir and orzhov get shafted so hard. Are there even any cards that get played in modern besides Countersquall that have a UBx casting cost?

LeMonado says... #13

ToolmasterOfBrainerd It's true, Dimir gets the short end of the stick when it comes to multicolored guildy (new adjective) cards. Hey! At least Pauper just got a better Divination!

Actually I'm thinking that both Chemister's Insight and Radical Idea could be fringe-playable in modern. I think each will start to pop up in UW control lists as 1-ofs. I could even see a grixis control list picking a copy or 2 up to fight the grindy matchups with raw card advantage. Turning a late land drop into something better sounds pretty good.

Jund is Green, Black, and Red. It’s typically a Midrange deck that aims to control the early game with hand disruption and cheap spot removal like Inquisition of Kozilek and Lightning Bolt. The mid game is where matches are won or lost. Resolving a Liliana of the Veil to lock down the board; a Dark Confidant to gain card advantage especially with additional discard spells; or clearing a path for an efficient beater like Tarmogoyf to close out the game. Getting into a top deck war is often times the best strategy late game as Jund typically has the best top decks in Modern at its disposal with Bloodbraid Elf being a premium.

Thanks man, appreciate the comment. Yeah, a lot of the cards in this deck are really strong on their own, but they way they synergize with each other makes it even more frustrating to play against. Assassin's trophy is a new one I've been seeing and I think it's mad versatile for removal tbh. Not too surprised it's one of the top decks in the format.

Chasmolinker says... #20

It's funny you say that because Jund is a "Goodstuff" deck meaning it's more so a bunch of good cards all on their own and any synergy is purely accidental. This is what allows the deck to have better top decks than most.

I love this. This is the approach I tried to take with my Tron Jund deck. Currently working on a Jund Build for after Guilds. Love it man. +1

Thanks CoreysGoreyBuilds. Tron Jund sounds like an interesting build. Are you using painlands with Eldrazi?

Grubbernaut says... #23

Only one Fatal Push seems bad. I'd cut 1-2 scooze for more, personally. Still like the deck!

Cheers

Chasmolinker says... #24

Thanks Grubbernaut. I could see adding a 2nd Push. I wouldn't cut Scooze though as Dredge and Hollow One are still going around. Might wind up cutting an Assassin's Trophy for one though depending on how I feel about that land ramp.

Chasmolinker what is your sideboard plan against burn? I see no lifegain and 6 painful cards in the main (Thoughtseizes and Bobs).
