Great deck. I would try 2x Rekindling Phoenix over one Tajic, Legion's Edge and one Militia Bugler as a hard to remove top end. Hell you could have them in over bad Lightning Helix

HereticDragon I will try that out in future games. This caught my atention as having a turn one Goblin Banneret does make your turn two a little awkward at times.

Shingouki If the card wasn't $40 Canadian I would totally try them out, but yea, not at that price.

Yea good point. How about Demanding Dragon? 5/5 flying that either kill something (Carnage Tyrant?) Or an extra 5 damage seems good.

I think this is a good deck but it's probably not cheap.

How is this deck working out for everyone? I've been running a variant of this deck, and have been having a heck of a time trying to win anything at all. My newest iteration didn't do too hot, I'll list it out so you guys can see where i went wrong.

MAIN BOARD Lands 4 Sacred Foundry 4 Clifftop Retreat 4 Boros Guildgate - I think this might have contributed to my problems 5 Plains 6 Mountains

Creatures 4 Goblin Banneret 4 Healer's Hawk 4 Boros Challenger 3 Tajic, Legion's Edge 3 Legion Warboss 3 Skynight Legionnaire 1 Truefire Captain 2 Aurelia, Exemplar of Justice

Spells 3 Shocks 3 Lightning Strke 3 Justice Strike 4 Integrity/Intervention

SIDE BOARD Creatures 2 Truefire Captain 1 Aurelia, Exemplar of Justice

Spells 4 Lava Coil 3 Citywide Bust 3 Conclave Tribunal 2 Banefire

I'm still very new to playing paper magic, I just started playing when Guilds of Ravnica came out, but I'm familiar with how the game is played. I played a local tournament last saturday and got absolutely destroyed with a different variation of this deck that I found online. The first match was against another Boros deck, I prolonging my death until my opponent busted out the heroic reinforcements, history of benalia, and that venerated luxodon. The second match was a selesnya tokens style deck that just got out of hand, and then I played against a dimir style surveil/don't play w/ Nicol Bolas, and managed to get one win in that game, and I dropped after that I added back the boros challengers and skynights, and took out the banefire and risk factors, and again, last tuesday, I just got crushed. The most popular deck by far at my shop is the izzet drakes deck, both of those beat me. I won one match, but not the game, against a golgari deck that was actually pretty fun to play against. It was new, and this guy is more a brewer and not so much of a net decker. Then, the last guy, played a dimir deck with, 2 karns, dream eaters and some other insanely expensive cards.

Sorry for the wall of text, I just don't know who to turn to for real advice that would help allow me to play more effectively. I've been looking at getting a play set of the Militia, Bugler. and the heroic reinforcement, but it doesn't seem to be in this deck, would I ruin the effectiveness of this deck if i threw those in???

heybucket88 Try Swiftblade Vindicator rather than the Goblin Banneret. It won't make you much slower, is a great target for mentor triggers, and is a beast with not having to tap, double strike, and trample. The rest is just going to be how you draw and being willing to mulligan out of a hand that isn't "perfect". Dropping to 6 or even 5 cards if it gives you a better start isn't always the worst idea.

FSims81 I appreciate the feedback. last saturday, I ran 4 swiftblade vindicators instead of 4 boros challengers, and was having a heck of a time trying to make them work. I'm wondering if I should do it the way you're talking about, but I'm having a hard time letting go of the banneret. He can pump himself to get bigger if need be, but his toughness is terrible. It seems, to me anyways, that mentoring isn't as strong as I'd hoped it would be, Or, I just suck @$$ at deck creation, lol. Oh, and I've had to mulligan a bunch of times and just been stuck even after starting with just 5 cards. Maybe I should increase the basic lands and take out the slower boros gates???

heybucket88 have you created this deck here on TappedOut so other people can see it, comment, and hopefully help you with it? I don't want to Hijack a thread for another deck.

If my math is right it looks like you are running 23 land for this deck. You may be able to cut the gates altogether and just run 20 or 21 land. Most of your creatures and spells require one two or three mana to cast so getting screwed shouldn't ever be much of a problem and might allow you to keep some Banneret and add the Vindicator.

FSims81 Sorry, yeah I do. I'm still curious who's run this deck and is it viable for a standard showdown?

So is this decklist up to date and doing decently? Id rather not waste my money and it not be semi decent. Im okay building it and helping out with test playing at my FNM.

Hi there, your deck works extremely well even on MTG Arena, been following this deck as it goes and its really gotten huge and well done. The only problems I always ran into however were those annoying Carnage Tyrant as I either had to finish the game before one came out or suffer the consequence of a hexproof, trample coming at me. Kinda impossible to defeat. Worst to say dinosaurs are an issue for this deck it seems in general (No offense to dinos). The Hexproof from it really damages alot of Justice Strike especially (love this card btw), Do you think you may have an idea to help with those Tyrants?

Also keep up the amazing job on this deck, it works phenomenally. I can't wait to try orzhov again soon :).

SoulsSlayerKnight I've thought about running a Detection Tower in either the side or main for specifically that reason. It's not listed in the deck as no one at my store runs Carnage Tyrant due to its price. Other than that the answers are few and fare between sadly.

January 14, 2019 7:26 p.m.

CryptonicNova Yeah, I'll probably give that a go when possible, appreciated, on Arena there's so many carnage tyrants I run into its unstoppable haha. Hopefully there are more ways to remove hexproof off a creature like that in the next release. For a 7/6 hexproof, trample, its pretty devastating for any deck unable to overrun or defeat it head on. I'll do some playtesting with the Detection Tower you mentioned and see how it works out. Only problem would be drawing it unless I run a full set or at least 3 to better the chances. No worries though. There's always more room to expand and switch arounds.

Awsome deck again by the way. Last boros deck I ran got me 2nd place at a store. I wonder how much your deck fares at stores? It works well in arena I can say but how good have you had it store-wise? If you don't mind, curious to know.

Hey CryptonicNova how do you get the competitive meter to show up when you make a deck? I didn't even know that was a thing

January 30, 2019 12:25 p.m.

CryptonicNova says... #16

sonicshadow1296 It's an option near the bottom when you are either making or editing a deck, when you check off whether or not the deck is visible or private.

January 30, 2019 12:52 p.m.

AlsoCryptonicNova, this deck is exactly what I want from a boros. If you had to pick a deck this has a hard time going against though, what would it be?

January 30, 2019 12:54 p.m.

Do you know exactly how the competitive meter works? CryptonicNova

January 30, 2019 1:06 p.m.

CryptonicNova says... #19

sonicshadow1296 No idea. I imagine that they take cmc, lands, non-creature to creature ratio, land ratios into consideration, all that jazz.

CryptonicNova I just wanna say thank you for this deck, my singles got home yesterday and it demolished some Izzet Drakes and simic decks, worked good in 2hg due to all mentoring and stuf interaction, version i ordered was without Rakdos cards, i think about adding Huatli, Warrior Poet for finishing with X ability but [response//resurgence] also works well, thank you again it didnt dissapoint so far

A really nice deck! One thing i changed however was replacing Healer's Hawk with Hero of Precinct One . Just works a lot better imo.

WakerTanke Yea I love Hero of Precinct One in this list on arena. It's really fun, really good. The deck list may change to that list in the future.
