Maybeboard

Nekusar, the Mindrazer rebuild, with a focus on better wheels. Not optimal, as kept some fun pet cards like The Locust God, but added some new brutal packages like Tergrid, God of Fright   and Sire Of Insanity, or Helm of the Ghastlord. Also more of a focus on flashback cards and Lier, Disciple of the Drowned to take advantage of the wheeled cards. Still a fairly budget landbase, but adding some rituals for faster Nekusars. Adding Peer into the Abyss as a combo kill with any of our draw-pingers (Nekusar, Fate Unraveler, etc) and an Isochron Scepter and Dramatic Reversal package to kill the table with Prosperity. Not adding tutors for the combo as don't want it to feel too much like a CEDH deck. Using Laboratory Maniac to survive prosperity (if we're decking and not pinging), but no Thassa's Oracle for the same reason.

One of the best/most brutal openers is something like:

This is probably the fastest and most CEDH-like the deck can look, but generally it plays out a much slower control-esque gameplan, disrupting your opponents' hands and holding up interaction until you can stick a Nekusar, the Mindrazer and set up your wheels with your discard and draw payoffs. Don't be scared to use your draw spells without the optimal payoffs on board, as sometimes you will need to dig for an answer. Just be wary that Nekusar will be the target of lots of removal, so while getting him out early is tempting to start the pings, you might need to hold up counterspells if your pod is heavy on interaction.

Favourite synergies:

Combos:

Not a combo specifically, but Lier, Disciple of the Drowned is one of the best new synergies to recur cards you felt bad about dumping in your graveyard. Using Windfall to disrupt your opponents is great, but throwing away your own Fierce Guardianship or other protection and combo pieces feels awful.

Potential Updates - Feedback Wanted

In original build, lots of spells were flexible in their targets (e.g. Compulsive Research, Mind Rake, etc). Considering re-adding Compulsive Research for flexibility, and Blue Sun's Zenith, Damnable Pact etc as infinite mana payoffs, but for now they've been replaced.

Want to find space for another discard payoff (such as Fell Specter) but unsure what to cut. Potentially could do with another wheel also, but currently have 8 between the instants, sorceries, and creatures, and finding one isn't too hard. Usually two wheels is enough to burst down the table with Nekusar and a discard payoff on board, and we can now re-use them with Lier as well.

Swapping out some removal could work, e.g. Bedevil, but I want the deck to be highly interactive. Also unsure how good Kederekt Parasite is, as not sure if have enough red permanents to make it pay off consistently.

Removed the old Ashnod's Altar + Skullclamp + The Locust God combo as it wasn't consistent enough (better with Locust God in command zone and more token producers). Still keeping Chasm Skulker, with a mind to maybe re-add Impact Tremors and add Purphoros, God of the Forge in future, alongside Nadir Kraken.

Considering adding Curiosity for Curiosity + Niv-Mizzet, Parun combo to draw your deck or kill an opponent. Curiosity is a may trigger, so you can stop whenever; this combo is possible currently with Helm of the Ghastlord, but it can't be stopped so requires a Laboratory Maniac or winning with pings before you deck yourself.

Feedback welcome.

Updates Add

Fell Specter and Wheel and Deal in, Chasm Skulker and Desperate Ravings out. Skulker can come back in if we move to Purphoros, God of the Forge package
