I agree with Kyuwrath that you should have more land but I would prefer removing Young Pyromancer instead of Far / Away .

Voyage's End could help out a lot, especially seeing the decent amount of cards that help clear out your opponent's hand in there. Plus, scrying away an unnecessary land is always a great plus. Also moving around some cards for either a single or double copy of Thassa, God of the Sea might prove to be really useful. I run both the cards I suggested in my Esper control deck. I've found that Thassa is so useful for the scry 1 at your upkeep, that it alone is usually worth it. And if you get out Thassa, your Desecration Demon becomes that much more scarier! Otherwise, definitely a scary deck to run against. Grixis control is is mean haha!

Also, I run a Prognostic Sphinx as well in my deck, because the scry 3 and hexproof abilities are actually incredibly useful.

I ran thassa in there at first, but I found read the bones to be faster and more direct. I may try the voyage's end, doesn't seem like a bad idea.

Fair enough on the Thassa, she's not meant for every deck. And well if it works, then glad to be of help!

Thank you much! I checked out your esper deck man, plus one from me. It is different from others and caught my attention. I am curious to see how it fairs

Honestly, it works out really well. It's an even crueler version of control, because it gives them the hope that they'll get to play their creature. And when they attack, muwahahaha >:). But thanks for the plus one! Oh, and Gainsay could be vital for mirror or other control decks for your deck!

I've noticed that Izzet Charm does a lot of work in this deck. Both with the shock and counter. The rummage effect also helps.

Izzet charm?? It isn't a bad thought but, there are better cards. I would rather have a magma jet or a doom blade in its spot. Thanks for the idea though

What about a Dimir Charm it lets you cycle your deck and it does a better job than Read The Bones in my opinion. Also you do kinda want Thasa in deck because shes so powerful in the ability to scry during your upkeep its amazing. If they side pithing needle then you need to be aware that you have no artifact removal so I would suggest a Jace Memory Adept; they won't see it coming and it will make them shit bricks when it hits the board instead of an architect of thought. Also i would suggest taking out young pyromancer and instead main decking Stormbreath Dragon because he is a scary fucker once he is out. I run Grixis so take my suggestions because they will win you games I guarantee it.

Dimir charm is absolutely an option, definitely one of the better charms. I may take you up on the dragon, I like his mon. ability. As for Jace, I am looking for two of them to mainboard anyways, just haven't gotten them yet. Thassa..... my favorite of the gods and her scry ability is very wonderful. But I ran her before and found my self needing something a bit faster and replaced her with rtb. It was a wonderful choice and I wanna stick with it. Thanks, I will absolutely take your advice on the jace, possibly the charm and dragon

Dimir charm is ridiculous compared to RTB and its faster too. You won't need draw power is you have disruption early which is what your deck is technically designed to do xD.

I will take you up on that and test it out, thanks a bunch :)

Not a problem :) and like I said I also run Grixis and its so much fun in this format xD.

I have to agree with that, I have made countless decks and not a one match how much fun this deck is

This is great! I always love to see a good Grixis control deck! +1 from me!
January 14, 2014 7:24 p.m.
Good looking deck! I personally wouldn't run young pyromancer or syncopate but that's me. I also use Grixis and it's done really well. It's beginning to look a lot like Grixis.
January 14, 2014 7:33 p.m.
My problem with syncopate is that after turn 3, it is essentially a dead card and that is not good. I would highly recommend substituting Omenspeaker or Frostburn Weird for Pyromancer. Both have excellent blocking bodies. Omenspeaker's scry 2 ability is phenomenal and has helped me top deck wins, but Weird is a very strong aggressive creature. I've played with both and I honestly wish I could use both. I'm currently running Omenspeaker because it can kill Soldier of the Pantheon and Frostburn Weird cannot. I would add 2 Jace, AoT in for Syncopate. He's best as a 3-4 of, but you can get by with 2. 2 Aetherling is a little much. I realize it's your win condition, but you should be able to keep the other player off their spells in order to draw it, especially with scry abilities. I would recommend -1 Aetherling for +1 Thassa, God of the Sea or perhaps another Hero's Downfall. I would also recommend having 25 lands. It really makes a difference, especially when you want to cast Rakdos's Return for a solid hit. Sorry this post is so long! I've been tweaking my Grixis deck since the end of the last block, and I've had a blast!

As DrFunk27 and others have stated, you really need 25 lands. Only aggro decks should run 22 lands in this format. You want to hit your land drops AT LEAST the first 5 turns. I also recommend Steam Augury , Underworld Connections , Read the Bones , or Opportunity for some card draw.

Here is my take on Grixis, been playing it since RTR. Punishing Grixis Control (Undefeated @ FNM)
January 14, 2014 9:40 p.m.
Last night fnm was two headed giant, grixis teamed up with esper and we placed second!!!!!

I would take out Far / Away and put in more lands. You need at least 25 lands.
