Believe it or not, First place FNM!

Tie for second place, luckily W/U Heroic (Which is a VERY scary deck) lost in round 3 so I did not get that pairing in the finals, otherwise very well could have ended tying for 2nd.

4/0 rounds, Overall 8/2

Only game losses came to Aggro Abzan. and R/G Monsters.

All in all, the deck needs some fine tuning but happy with the performance. Found I sided out Monastary Swiftspear almost everygame. Not sure if it has a home in the build for next week. May replace with more burn/removal mainboard or perhaps +2 Brimaz, King of Oreskos and +2 Stormbreath Dragon

Looks great! I was looking around for Mardu Token builds when I found this! +1 from me!

I must say its pretty nice. Featuring good staples and nice win cons. But I take this being budget-ish?

Yeah, at first I was just trying to build something on a budget, that could be a good secondary deck, but this deck is actually uber strong in my meta and one of the more fearsome decks.

So that bumped it to my primary :) Going to continue to work while keeping the same concept, gonna play around with maybe Stoke the Flames maybe a few Brimaz, King of Oreskos

Thanks for the +1!

No problem! I would consider Goblin Rabblemaster since this deck (I think?) wants to beat as fast as it can.

Also what will become of this when FRF has come out?

January 5, 2015 12:34 p.m.

xGhostx says... #5

Yeah I have been toying with Rabblemaster, not sure if he is in this build or not yet, In terms of Fates, Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury will def be a 2of as well as potentially Harsh Sustenance and maybe War Flare (Not linkable)

As for others, not really sure yet

Also, JundGrixisNayaBantEsper

Soulfire Grand Master will be more then likely replacing Seeker of the Way as a 4of after fates, because this deck wins when all my burn is lifelink and recurring lol

January 5, 2015 2:39 p.m.

Ha ha! I agree xGhostx! That card will be a staple in the many burn decks to come! Soulfire Grand Master will definitely improve this list and hopefully it'll grant you some wins! Lifelink will be so handy against all the midrange decks. You can stoke their courser and gain 4. Its the new Warleader's Helix! And Lightning Strike becomes the new Lightning Helix!

Thanks for the decklist xGhostx! I cant wait for FR to come out. Glad to see the Mardu doing good.

Thanks for the upvote! Yeah I think the combo of Soulfire Grand Master + Ajani's Pridemate + 20'ish burn spells is going to work well!

Along with Sorin, Solemn Visitor for good measure lol. Playtesting shows I can hit 2-4 Lifelink tirggers per turn, consistently, resulting in the Pridemate getting upwards of 4 +1/+1 counters every turn.

Wow! This list is looking pretty sweet! Here is my list for Fate Reforged: The Warrior's Way (Mardu Warriors!). Please comment and suggest xGhostx and Feralforce!

Definite +1.

+1. With some of these amazing cards I see from the FRF, I am seriously debating getting a booster box. Although isn't Thoughtseize, Magma Jet, and Stormbreath Dragon rotating out when FRF is released? I am not positive on how the rotation thing works as I have just started up again after a 15 year hiatus of MTG.

On to some questions about the deck. How do you keep from getting your Soulfire Grand Master from getting shocked? or Ajani's Pridemate from getting a Doom Blade to the face?

Delmare says... #13

Sorry, I meant to put this in my comments before. I have a Warrior deck I am trying to get to be standard legal. I would like to play it at FNM. I don't expect to win since I won't be pouring in hundreds of dollars on a single deck. Possibly once the new block comes out. So please, have a look see and let me have some insight?

Those Warriors though.

Hey Delmare Theros Block does not rotate out until the Fall of this year, so still have a good solid 7 months of playability.

As for Doom Blade It has already rotated out so its not a concern :P

As for protecting keys against removal, the major thing that would effect the deck would be Soulfire Grand Master which it would not cripple the deck, it would slow me down a bit, and open me up to damage as my lifelink blanket would removed / delayed.

The deck has been geared to hit wincon over a large percentage of the permanents to try to stay as consistent as possible.

January 10, 2015 6:19 p.m.

I don't see a reason for having Butcher of the Horde in this deck other than having a 5/4 for 4. I would suggest Chained to the Rocks for stopping their threats, Stoke the Flames for extra burn, or Prophetic Flamespeaker for lifelink and double-strike with pseudo-draw. It looks good though, I would hate to be playing control against this deck.

January 12, 2015 2:36 p.m.

xGhostx says... #16

Your reasoning is correct. Butcher of the Horde is there to be a 5/4 Flyer for 4 and thats about it.

The deck is only utilizing Black otherwise in Crackling Doom which is a key card in the build, Sorin, Solemn Visitor and the 2of Mardu Charm Mainboard. With 4x Thoughtseize and 2x the double black drop Hero's Downfall in the Sideboard. So running Butcher as a 4of Mainboard also helped to curve the requirement for "more then splash" of black mana sources mainboard.

At the same time, Butcher of the Horde is a pain to deal with and can swing for Lifelink, Vigilance and Haste, Flying, the turn he hits the board if followed by say a Mardu Charm at the end of your opponents turn before hand :) Just an all around good creature to lay the beats.

farst says... #17

maybe play the gain lands?

January 12, 2015 7:17 p.m.

xGhostx says... #18

No real need to. The deck is very good at gaining life on its own, and a land that comes into play tapped would only slow the deck down more. Nomad Outpost are already enough trouble as it is and I am only running them as its either that or Mana Confluence and the Conf's only really help the super aggro versions of this build.

So to be viable, I would need to drop the Outposts to add in the Gain Lands, which I think would be a wasted effort at that point as I would be some sour hitting a wrong combination Gain Land when it is vital.

Nice thought though, it does certainly go with the concept. Thanks!

farst says... #19

yes but you have no life gain without Soulfire Grand Master and Sorin, Solemn Visitor butif they all die or you don't draw them Ajani's Pridemate are just bears. I'm not saying run 12 I just think you should play 3, 1 of each color pair.

I have a similar deck list waiting for FRF. Very nice deck list and I think this or a very similar list will become one of the main decks in Standard. +1 My list has a very different sideboard and features Erebos, God of the Dead against any other decks running Soulfire Grand Master as he shuts down their life gain. This type of deck can outrace most control decks. I may post my list later for you to compare. I run 4 copies of Stoke the Flames main deck.

January 12, 2015 7:45 p.m.

xGhostx says... #21

megaladon13 I Like Erebos, God of the Dead in the SB, may need to toy around with that. I have also been playing with Athreos, God of Passage I love Athreos and have been trying to work him into a build since Nyx was released, just never found a solid home for him.

farst I hear what you are trying to say, but if I dont hit a Grad Master, or Sorin, I can still gain with Butcher of the Horde and the deck wins without a massive Ajani's Pridemate Its just funnier when it does win that way :P

Monastery Mentor may be worth a shot. I'm not sure what you could take out for it though...maybe just trim some things and toss in one or two to test it?

January 12, 2015 8:12 p.m.

xGhostx says... #23

I dont know if the Mentor has a home here or not. Before Fates come out I am currently Running Seeker of the Way and Monastery Swiftspear both as 4 drops.

Assuming they will both get cut to add Ajani's Pridemate and Soulfire Grand Master Not sure if thats exactly how the cut will happen though.

January 12, 2015 8:22 p.m.

You need to definitely consider running a couple of creature protection spells such as Gods Willing to protect your Soulfire Grand Master. And might I suggest instead of Ajani's Pridemate you use Monastery Mentor? I feel it would do a heck of a lot more for you than Pridemate ever will.
