I like Gods Willing and I think I might try fooling around with that. I am not sold on Monastery Mentor yet.... I feel like the addition of the 1/1 Monks will not be a huge deciding factor in the layout of the deck unless I am hitting Sorin, Solemn Visitor Buff's every turn.... Just feels like I could achieve the same with Seeker of the Way as I could with Monastery Mentor

I think Ajani's Pridemate will be more viable with the addition of Gods Willing

Further Playtesting, I think I drop Gods Willing and Add Stoke the Flames.... Or +1 Magma Jet and +1 Lightning Strike and back to 23 land...

I can see how Gods Willing protects the Soulfire Grand Master but after a few turns it results in a dead draw that I would much rather be burn. I want the deck to consistently burn an opponent out but turns 6/7 at the latest, or control their board presence for the Mid-Range to long game.

So far in playtesting, Gods Willing is resulting in a dead draw more often then not. I can see it being far more valuable in a Prowess build of this deck that utilizes Monastery Swiftspear, Seeker of the Way and Monastery Mentor

Dropped Gods Willing and Wild Slash

Went back to 23 land, added back the 2of Utter End because I like to be able to spot remove anything on board.

Now running 3of Each Magma Jet, Stoke the Flames and Lightning Strike

I think we are close to finished product here guys :)

Maybe try to work Brimaz, King of Oreskos in as a 2of.....

Dictate of the Twin Gods maybe? double the damage - double the lifegain.

And since you already have Deflecting Palm you could let them willingly attack into you, doubled by the Dictate, then reverse the damage, doubled again (new source) and they take the hit to the face. If they have a 5 power creature, it's game over. Nice trap.

I hear where your coming from, but for a 5 drop like that, I am not sure what I would take out to make it beneficial.

But, on that topic, Twinflame might do some work here.

Really wish Sanguine Bond or Vizkopa Guildmage was still in :) that could have made things really messy here.

A possible SB option could be Return to the Ranks to bring back your killed off Ajani's Pridemates and Soulfire Grand Masters. Just a one of but it may not be necessary.

Thinking about dropping to 2x Butcher of the Horde and increasing the Magma Jet / Lightning Strike / Stoke the Flames Count by 2..... not sure yet though.

I like having the butcher show up when needed, but I hate seeing 1 or more in an opening hand....

I dont think dropping the Butchers is a good idea. You already have enough burn. I know the feeling when you have sometimes too many butchers that you would want to change with some burn or removal. But I still think Butcher of the Horde is amazing.

I am messing around with dropping to 2x Butcher of the Horde and moving Stormbreath Dragon to only a 2of in the SB.

Added back 4x Seeker of the Way not sure if its the right move or not yet. Still have a some time before Fate to muck things around to see what works and what does not :)

Testing dropping 3x Stoke the Flames from the mainboard to 1x Lightning Strike 1x Magma Jet and 1x Wild Slash to run 4of each.

The thought for this comes from having a low creature base so Convoke does not seem like it would be viable option most of the time as I would rather swing with the creature. Prowess triggers, the more I hit per turn the better, and Soulfire Grand Master's second ability. The 4 to recoup a spell back to my hand seems far more usable with a 1/2 drop burn spell.

Consider Monastery Mentor in place of Seeker of the Way. It'll give you tokens to sac for Butcher of the Horde, and if not, 1/1 prowess tokens are no minor threat with all that lifelink burn attached :)

I have been told to use Monastery Mentor a few times now :) and I just dont see it. Seeker of the Way does more in terms of what the deck is trying to produce. 1/1 White Prowess Tokens are unneeded for what the deck is trying to accomplish.

Seeker swinging for 4 or 5 lifelink is far more beneficial for the build.

Plus he is roughly about $29 cheaper for each instance lol

Tarzanovic says... #17

yeah, I guess the $29 is a determining fact :P

But as for lifelink, you have Sorin to give all creatures lifelink. Seeker of the Way is a good card in any case, I just dont see you using Butcher of the Horde to sac any of your non token creatures... Unless you dont need to sac for additional abilities with Butcher :)

Tarzanovic says... #18

but how about Wild Slash as a one mana 2 damage burn? Much easier to get back with Soulfire Grand Master

January 15, 2015 12:35 p.m.

xGhostx says... #19

The deck runs 4 Wild Slash right now :)

And yeah Butcher of the Horde will get the occasional sac based on the situation, but he is 99% of the time flyer deterrent and air control.

You could potentially drop the Ajani's Pridemate for Sunbond that way you have a creature gaining much more counters than just one every time you lightning strike etc.

January 15, 2015 6:09 p.m.

xGhostx says... #22

I like it, but I think Sunbound might be a little slow as a 4drop. I may try messing around with adding 2 in.

Anger of the Gods definitely want some place in there, even though your Soulfire Grand Master going to be exiled, you can gain an obscene amount of life, another one for SB could be Searing Blood, it have the potential to destroy 1 creature, do 3 damage to the player and gain 5 life, i know is difficult to cast it in a 3 colored deck, but maybe worth the risk. +1

January 15, 2015 10:13 p.m.

xGhostx says... #24

Nice suggestion on the Anger of the Gods not sure how I let that slip my mind. Made room as a 3of in the SB based on the anticipation of seeing massive amounts of U/B Prowess Tokens with Monastery Mentor in my meta.

Changed gears with this build a bit over the last day or so. So far getting happier with the changes, hope to have it perfected by first Fate FNM :)

Considering that your only black permanent is Sorin, maybe make Erebos, God of the Dead a sideboad cad? Negating opponents lifegain has no use if he doesnt have lifegain to begin with, and you can get carddraw from other sources (like Sign in Blood for instance, which can also be used as a burn spell if need be.)
