Hey Tarzanovic I agree, I simply made the change last night and went to bed to ponder it some more :) I agree, Erebos, God of the Dead is an SB addition for sure.

As for ways to deal with him against me, Crackling Doom , Utter End and Suspension Field :)

Nah more Prowess tokens is not really what the deck is trying to do. Seeker of the Way essentially does better work in the deck and is $29 cheaper lol.

The Mentor is bonkers, I mean he is silly good. Just not in this build. Like I SB'd Anger of the Gods just to play against Mentor. Which I might add will be insane when I anger against a field of tokens and it bounces of Soulfire Grand Master and I gain ridiculous amounts of life which in turn bounces of Sunbond and makes a creature gigantic. The first time that happens the lolz will be brought.

Looks pretty good. I recommend Palace Siege over Sunbond. The drain and gain on upkeep is pretty good, and isn't a completely dead draw in the late game on an empty board.

The issue I have with Palace Siege is that I would only really use the second ability and for 5 mana that seems pretty wasteful. The deck currently curves out at 4 and if I was going to add a 5drop it would more then likely be Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker going back in or Stormbreath Dragon running mainboard.

I am still not sold on Sunbond as of right now it is in a trial run and if it proves to be useful it may have a home here otherwise it will be cycled for more burn/removal more then likely. Or even potential 2of Monastery Mentor :)

Actually, I think I may try that. Thanks!

Ok, So now the question is, Since I have found a spot for Monastery Mentor and am going to give it shot. Do I drop the 4of Seeker of the Way and go to 4of each Monastery Mentor and Butcher of the Horde or leave it as is with 2of each and the 4of Seeker of the Way?

I need feedback people! FNM is creeping ever closer!

love it, 2 suggestions for consideration Satyr Firedancer and Searing Blood if you are looking for things to drop would drop swiftspear and that new shock spell

I have been thinking about Searing Blood for a while now too. I Like Swiftspear for early beats as well as Stoke the Flames Engine.

I think I could drop a few things to make room for Searing Blood as a 2 or 3of. Gonna toy with it. I will also look at Firedancer, but the deck is actually more creature heavy right now then I want it to be...

Thanks for the suggestion!

16 isn't that heavy, it's actually a bit lighter than the standard mardu shell IMO. (I count hordeling outburst as a creature slot) Would keep 4 on seeker (too good in burn), possibly 3 of grandmaster (multiple in play are redundant but are a essential piece so I don't know) and 4 of mentor (multiple mentors aren't redundant and make me smile) Cut the butcher maybe? Eatting a goblin ain't that bad with rabble, but I'd almost hesitate to eat a prowess monk unless it was going to die anyway. You don't need to swing as much or at all here. And butcher useally just eats a removal 99% of the time if you don't haste him into tapped mana.

Reason I say firedancer over swiftspear is as a midgame draw, 1/2 haste might be the last thing you want to see at that point, but a stacking burn multiplier for control is never a bad top deck. The points you lose swinging at their face early can be gained in burning their face plus their dude later. (or 2 small dudes and their face with searing) Also synergies well with sorin and grandmaster. Hell you can literally shut them down and put a mean clock on them if you make it to turn 6+ and buyback your burns. Can convoke into red the same for stoke if that was the purpose. Just a thought.

or how about their biggest AND their smallest with crackling doom? That's value...

Do you work in sales? Because you sold me :)

I see the benefit in Firedancer for sure. I am going to try running with 2of Searing Blood and 3of both Satyr Firedancer and Monastery Mentor Although I might change this to go back to 2of Mentor and 4of Firedancer.

Dropped the 2x Butcher of the Horde and up'd the count in the SB, I like having him as an option for games 2 and 3 if air control is needed.

Gonna toy with this a bit more but it is continuing to look better and better!

Now I need and efficient draw engine thats not Erebos, God of the Dead

I feel this deck is going to slow right down come turns 4/5 if I am unable to get a hand going. Drawing a single burn a turn in the later game is gonna cause this fire to suffocate and die.....

Why cant Treasure Cruise be R/W/B!

johnsongrantr says... #16

welp... you got Read the Bones, Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker ultimate (unreliable), Aggressive Mining (bad) and that's pretty much it, erebos works good here though, thought the choice was intentional. Life gain is the last thing you want for your opponent here.

how about Outpost Siege? its second biliy might suck but the first is like Chandra, Pyromaster +0 ability

January 20, 2015 10:39 a.m.

johnsongrantr says... #18

oh and Chandra, Pyromaster, which doesn't look like a bad option

January 20, 2015 10:39 a.m.

Tarzanovic says... #19

Sign in Blood as well. The lifeloss is neglectable with your lifegain

January 20, 2015 10:42 a.m.

xGhostx says... #20

I think Sign in Blood and Chandra, Pyromaster are the 2 options here.

Erebos, God of the Dead was added fro both things, one to be an efficient Draw Engine and also to prevent lifegain. but again, it is not reliable to be hitting him every game unless I am running multiple mainboard, which does not seem like a valid option. I think Sign in Blood is the right choice as at the end of the day it still triggers Prowess.

Also Soulfire Grand Master + Sign in Blood correct me if I am wrong, but did we just break Orzhov lol? or does the Sign not receive lifelink considering its text reads "Loses 2 Life"

If it does inherit the lifelink ability then yeah this is the choice for sure, Draw 2 for 2 is a win all day long in Black

January 20, 2015 12:13 p.m.

johnsongrantr says... #21

lifelink is only triggered on actual damage, not on life loss, would be absolutely bonkers if it did though lol. Sign in blood is cool because you can burn your enemy for the last 2 in a pinch, and possibly get it back with grandmaster. Pulling off a 6 drop "draw 2, return to hand" sounds great. I personally like read the bones because of the scry 2 before the draw to increase the quality of what you're getting, but the loss of target player, and the extra mana may or may not be worth it here.

January 20, 2015 12:25 p.m.

xGhostx says... #22

Yeah I re thunk that and realized the same. Fit in 2 Sign in Blood for now

January 20, 2015 12:33 p.m.

Tarzanovic says... #23

Maybe 3 for more consistant draws. Chandra would be an excelent addition here in any case, since she has the instant synergy.

xGhostx says... #24

So down to 12 Creatures. 20 Instants, 3 Sorceries and 3 Planeswalkers.

I guess I wont really know if this is feasible for a Mardu Control Build until I playtest more.

Ever thought of Humble Defector? Card draw or target for opponents' removal. After switching sides he is a perfect target for Searing Blood. Especially good vs. Abzan Midrange and BU Control, which usually doesn't play 2-toughness creatures.
