Humble Defector has a little synergy with Searing Blood, but not one consistent or powerful enough that I'd say he's worth running. Without the combo he's a 2/1 for 2 that can draw you two cards at the expense of you opponent draw cards as well, and you never want to give you opponent a card advantage. Searing Blood is a good card on its own, were as Humble Defector is kinda meh. I'd replace him with Satyr Firedancer who also has great synergy with Searing Blood and every other burn spell. Kill two creatures and deal 3 damage to the face for 2 mana.

Nixin72 The deck runs more then enough burn that my opponent rarely gets the draw effect from Humble Defector Typically I will play, next turn utilize for draw 2, then if after sideboard feed to Butcher of the Horde in response to effect, or burn him when he hits my opponents board. If this happens when a Soulfire Grand Master is in play then it also results in lifelink gain, if it hits off a Searing Blood it results in lifelink gain and burn to my opponent.
This deck can empty a hand in a turn, Thats why the need for an efficient draw engine is a very real need.
I see what Satyr Firedancer can do here and I have tested extensively with him and I just find that I would rather be drawing 2 cards then dealing 2 damage. As for creature control the deck is well tuned to do that as is.
I am at least going to run with Defector @ FNM tomorrow to see how it plays in 4 or 5 rounds of competitive play. So far he has proved a valuable assist and the deck has preformed well against R/G Monsters, W/U Heroic and U/B Control.
I will post my results after tomorrow night.

I'm quite eager to see them. Unfortunately tomorrow night for me is release draft, so I can't test what I'm building after pre-release.
January 22, 2015 7:03 p.m.
Now running with 3x Soulfire Grand Master (Mainly because it is impossible to find the 4th!) and 3x Satyr Firedancer as well as keeping the 4x Humble Defector and Seeker of the Way
Think this evens out the creature base while giving my burn the most bang for its buck.
Gonna run this build tonight @ FNM see how it plays.

Very nice results! Did you find Sorin, Solemn Visitor to be of any use?
January 24, 2015 5:30 a.m.
Very little, do not think he will be in the next build. He was decent and all, but not game changing in any of the matches.

26 of 60 cards go into your graveyard after use. Burn, palm, and doom. Fetches too. One or two copies of [murderous cut] seems like value here. Takes care of fatties for cheap. Also I would suggest [erase] for sideboard for sure.

I'm thinking of trying out building this deck, problem is, there's no way I'm getting Soulfire Grand Master. What would you recommend to replace?

Honestly against Jeskai tokens you should really consider sideboarding End Hostilities. Go ahead and wipe out your own board because you could also SB Return to the Ranks and bring back pretty much all of your creatures

Nixin72 Without Soulfire Grand Master at least as a 2of, the deck functions sub-prime....
Really this version cannot be built without it. You could do an aggro/Burn Mardu shell using things like Seeker of the Way and Monastery Swiftspear and a bunch of burn for prowess triggers.
rochdalekilla9 Against the Jeskai Token builds, I need Anger of the Gods simple as that. I might side 2 End Hostilities to see, but really Anger does what I need it to in that match up and when bouncing off Soulfire results in MASSIVE life gain.

When I say Searing Blood for Humble Defector I thought couldn't you just run Collateral Damage? The only downside is you have to sac a creature but does a better job than sear with the Defector.
Anyway this looks amazing! Glad to see a astounding Mardu Burn deck =) Already +1'ed though...
January 24, 2015 3:30 p.m.
I like Searing Blood here because its not as conditional as Collateral Damage is. I can still Sear them without the need of feeding a Defector for it.

Cool. It's pretty fun if you draw 2 with Defector and then sac him to Butcher! Searing Blood is kind of like Collateral Damage but can hit opponents creatures too!

Humble Defector + Soulfire Grand Master + Searing Blood = Hilarity!
Draw 2, Gain 5 Life and Burn for 3 to their face for 2 Mana spent on turn lol
January 24, 2015 4:02 p.m.
Satyr Firedancer in the mix to then allows me to burn another creature for 3 more lol

Ha ha! Tricks with Satyr Firedancer + Soulfire Grand Master ! You can do anything with those two!!!

nice to see the firedancer back, the synergy is real ;)
As far as SB, I would def put either utter end, erase, or even stain the mind for ascendancy and whip shenanigans. Every game I played last friday was either jeskai ascendancy or abzan/sulti whip doing one of the two and I was side-boarding in utter ends in each of my matches.

I've found that I prefer having 4 Satyr Firedancer and one less Seeker of the Way with an extra red burn.
January 25, 2015 11:02 a.m.
I dont agree wildnacatl
Seeker of the Way is a key player, he lays the beats and ensures that your life is always on the climb. I like having 1 Satyr Firedancer in play, but love having 2 or 3 Seekers :) I tried running 4of both and just found I got flooded with creatures. Running 3of each Firedancer and Soulfire Grand Master seems like a solid flow.
Either way, they all work pretty well together.

Uhmm, I would like to suggest something if you don't mind.
What's the reason for putting Butcher of the Horde? All your creatures are necessary in the battlefield so I guess you won't have anything to feed the Butcher to gain lifelink, haste, or vigilance.
How about using Monastery Swiftspears instead? With all that non-creature spells in your deck in sure it will be a good wincon together with Seeker of the Way early game. Plus, it's a 1-drop with hate, good turn 1 advantage.
Those are my suggestions. Anyway, this is a very nice deck. +1

Would it not be possible to sacrifice Humble Defector as you tapped him for cards?
January 26, 2015 8:17 a.m.
SiegeRhiNOOO says... #24
Well, I guess you can. But what I'm saying is that Butcher won't have enough fodders. But it's the deck owner's decision if he will consider my suggestion or not lols. Peace :)

But I'm guessing it's also Butcher's job to trigger the Ferocious ability of Wild Slash.
