This deck relies on the opponent having not much to do on their side, to accomplish this we have a wide array of removal, to make sure whatever gets thrown at us by our opponents gets thrown into the graveyard (or exile)
Declaration in Stone: Useful in the early game to clear a Hangarback Walker without leaving behind any pesky thopters. Even better later in the game to get rid of any big creatures that could be trouble, and it is an absolute dream against token decks wiping out so many tokens for 2.
Grasp of Darkness: Oh you flashed in Archangel Avacyn
? Too bad she won't stick around to do anything. can also be used to finish off bigger creatures that our sweepers don't quite finish off.
Ultimate Price: Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet, Archangel Avacyn, Sylvan Advocate and 6 lands down? Sorry, but your not staying around for long. helps to keep the board clear in the early part of the game so our life total stays protected.
Ruinous Path: Oh you've got a Gideon, Ally of Zendikar or a Chandra, Flamecaller and your just going to beat us down? Sorry, but i can't let you keep that. Vitally important to stop any advantage our opponent could get from planeswalkers. Also great to take down any big creatures coming our way.
Anguished Unmaking: Nice Evolutionary Leap you have there, keeping you stocked up with plenty of creatures, it'd be a big shame if anything were to happe- oops! I unmade it! sorry about that. We only have one of these because between this and Read the Bones our life total can take a beating before we start gaining it back, but it's useful none the less for taking out any threats our other removal can't.
Radiant Flames: Wow! Only turn 3 and you already have 5-6 humans on the board! I might as well throw in the towel now... oh wait, what's this? Now all your humans are burning and dying? Great for keeping the aggro decks in check before they do too much damage, and combo's nice later in the game with Grasp of Darkness to take out a bigger threat.
Languish: Like Radiant Flames, but better! Great sweeper to reset the board to where we want it to be.
trangress the mind
: Let's see what we don't want you to have. Best way to clear the board? Don't let something get put on the board to start with. Turn 2 and we want to see what we're facing and take out any potential threats so we can save our better removal for later in the game.
Burn from Within: It's big, indestructible and about to kill us on your next turn? Bye Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger. Only used as removal in a pinch when we don't have anything else to use in hand, if possible we try to keep this as a win condition.
