Sideboard

Maybeboard

I want to play bad cards with good cards.

The idea is Relentless Dead or Collected Company lets me cheat out Skaab Ruinator for the top-end. The rest is intended to be a Zombie value deck, not going too heavy on lords.

A couple other ideas I'm toying around with for laughs include Rooftop Storm with a sac outlet. If I did that plus a few more drain-on-death effects, you can do a janky 4-card combo with something like Diregraf Captain, Gravecrawler and a sac outlet.

Removal can probably be switched around a bit, maybe tossing in some Fatal Push. The deck can also build up a good bit of devotion. With only 20 lands, I'm probably not dropping Gray Merchant of Asphodel, but Erebos, God of the Dead maybe could make an appearance.

So I guess what I'm looking for help on is: If I keep this a company deck cheating out Skaab Ruinator in multiple different ways, what else do I want to go for? Grisly Salvage? If that, then what do I cut? How do I not just fold to Blood Moon?

Round 1 Vs Pox - 1-2 Game 1: Being a brew, opponent didn't know what he was looking at. I got hit by 2 Smallpox, which kept me off Collected Companyfoil. Still managed to get there with 2-drops thanks to recursion.

Game 2&3: Lost to Ensnaring Bridgefoil both of these games. SIDEBOARD: Not effective anyway, see below.

I'm considering a sac outlet for Bridge decks, since I've got a few ways to get Diregraf Captain into play from either hand, graveyard or library. That, paired with Gravecrawler could potentially let me grind out board stalls. Looking at Vampiric Rites, since it draws cards and gains life. Only problem is it costs mana. Other options include:

Natuko Husk, which doesn't really add value besides pinging for 1 life if it can't attack through a Bridge.

Plagued Rusalka, which could be a really good option now that I look at it. It's a spirit so I can't bring it back, but it's got minor game against Young Pyromancer or Lingering Souls.

Viscera Seer, which is a free sac and a scry. But aside from sculpting my next draw, it doesn't offer much more to the deck.

Any other suggestions?

Round 2 vs. Mardu Pyro - 2-0 I managed to dodge Blood Moon and Lingering Souls. His removal and hand disruption didn't really affect me, so this one was won easily.

OUT: 3 Dread Wanderer, 3 Fatal Push - Hits Pyro and tokens, but not Reveler. IN: Abrupt Decay(Blood Moon), Maelstrom Pulse(Everything, mostly Blood Moon), 2x Pyrite Spelllbomb(Turns off recursion for Faithless Looting, Lingering Souls, and makes Bedlam Reveler uncastable), 2x Cast Down (More solid for their very few threats)

Round 3 vs Mono White Control/Prison - 0-2

Opponent was just able to out-value me both games. This is my biggest motivation to put in that 4th Collected Companyfoil. OUT: 3x Dread Wanderer IN: Maelstrom Pulse, 2x Cast Down

Round 4 vs. Mardu Pyro - 0-2 Game 1, turn 3 Blood Moon shut down my shocks. Game 2, I tried too hard to play around Blood Moon by playing all basics. As a result, I couldn't cast anything. I feel like this match is about making sure I have a removal spell at the ready for when Blood Moon drops, or trying to focus on Green/Black and eschewing the Blue until I get ahead a little.

Round 5 vs Burn - 2-1 This matchup is great post-sideboard. I outraced the opponent Game 1 since they were on one land. Game 2, I didn't draw into my board or lands. Game 3, consecutive Collective Brutality put them too far behind to ever hope to keep up. OUT: 3x Dread Wanderer, 1 Gravecrawler IN: 3x Collective Brutality, 1 Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet Play this like a midrange. Conserve life and hope to hit those Collective Brutality. Escalate 2 is a 3-for-3, but since I have so much recursion it usually ends up being a 3-for-1 in my favor.

Overall: I had fun, even though my record was less than stellar. A recurring theme I'm seeing is that I side out Dread Wanderer just about every match, which leads me to believe it's not as useful as I thought. Going to cut all 3. Adding another Swamp, Geralf's Messenger and Collected Companyfoil. We'll see how that does. Also thinking about making room for a couple Phyrexian Crusader in the board to improve threat-density against UW-type decks, and have a way to ignore any lifegain they might have.
