As suggested by the title, this is a control deck! I love playing U/W or U/W/X control (my last deck was Esper, RIP Sphinx's Revelation), and now the archetype has shifted to Jeskai, which I happen to love! So, as most control decks do, this one aims to stall out the early game by keeping the opponent's board empty, then playing the big finishers to end the game in your favor.
Our finishers here are:
Pearl Lake Ancient - A big flashy prowess dude that's hard to get rid of. What's not to love? Also combos well with Radiant Fountain
Elspeth, Sun's Champion - A finisher for white-inclusive control since her creation. Her tokens keep her alive and well, and even with them gone, she's pretty solid. Also just a wrath sometimes.
Prognostic Sphinx - Not the best finisher but definitely a major threat, and helps to dig for better game-enders, and hard to deal with on top of that. It could potentially get my opponent into burn range.
Then, of course, our library is full of a slew of spells for countering, burning/removal, and drawing. These include:
Dissolve and Disdainful Stroke - The main counterspells. Negate is an option in the sideboard for control mirrors and noncreature spell-heavy decks.
Lightning Strike, Banishing Light, Jeskai Charm, Anger of the Gods, End Hostilities - The removal, whether it's burn, wrath, bounce, or exile, it gets stuff off the board. Burn can also just hit your opponent in the face. Sideboard has Erase for ascendancy and constellation decks, Magma Spray for aggro, and Reality Shift for another very cool option.
Steam Augury and Dig Through Time - Our draw spells for card advantage (and a way to use that sizable stack of cards in the graveyard). Steam Augury and Dig are very good in that they both can let me draw relevant cards, but sometimes they won't get me as many as I'd like, which is why I'm considering returning Treasure Cruise to this list.
And finally, some fantastic supporting cards:
Keranos, God of Storms - Card advantage, additional burn, small downside... Definitely worth it! However I doubt he'll ever be a creature.
Soulfire Grand Master - This card. It's pretty fantastic. It turns Jeskai Charm into an 8 point life swing, Lightning Strike into a Lightning Helix, and Anger of the Gods into an all out face-wrecking card (although it does kill her). It's easy to remove, but sooo worth the effort. For now, two copies. Perhaps more in the future if I find it sticks well.
And the one leftover sideboard card, Nyx-Fleece Ram, is nice in aggro matchups. It blocks nicely early on and gains a bit of extra life. Just what we needed, really.
That's the deck in a nutshell, so please leave comments or +1 if you like it. Suggestions are welcome, so don't hesitate to let me know what you think! After I'm through building it, I'll give updates on its performance.
