Hey you should consider possibly swapping out the Vaporkin for Stratus Dancer. You lose the elemental synergy but you gain some mid and late game potential.

Fully agree with ArcturusFrost, leaving 2 untapped mana to counter removal AND leaving a 3/2 flyer seems good..

Yep I've been thinking about this guy for the past 2 days and I'm finally convinced! Thanks

Mirror Mockery on your attacking Master of Waves makes new elementals each turn? Use thassa to let it be safe from blockers.

Definitely need Cloudform

@pidgeonYep, that's what I mentionned in the description?

I love Cloudform but Shorecrasher Elemental is just the better option in a pure devotion deck. I think making the curve higher is a trap that would hinder the deck's strength. What do you think?

The flying and hexproof in this deck would be highly valuable. And with so many 1 drops, putting down 1 on turn 1, 2 one drops or military intelligence on turn 2, then drop Cloudform or Shorecrasher Elemental and turn 4 bident, master of waves, or thassa. Master would have 5 or 6 devo on turn 4. Protecting your devotion with the hexproof would ensure you get a good trigger from master of waves. But yes, the shorecrasher elemental could be better in some situations, just make sure you have an extra blue to use his exile ability. So really, shorecrasher would be a turn 4 drop if watching out for him. So it might be good to play cloudform turn 3, crasher turn 4. After turn 4 you are just looking for thassa or another master of waves to finish up the game.

I don't like Mirror Mockery. I mean, when you're shipping your Master of Waves, aren't you already winning? If they have anything with 2 power, you'd close all your elementals. Sure, Thassa will help out sometimes, but sitting with a Mirror Mockery, a Thassa, God of the Sea and a Master of Waves is unlikely. This deck wins because it's solid, not because it's cute :)

I also agree with Shorecrasher Elemental over Cloudform: both are immune to spot removal, both die to wraths, but Shorecrasher Elemental survive both Anger and Drown. Also, I find the manifests of Cloudform being duds for the mostpart, I mean, the only cards you'd be happy to flip are Frost Walker and sometimes Stratus Dancer. Playing both Cloudform and Shorecrasher Elemental would leave your curve peaking at 3-drops, which seems pretty weird when the deck is about curving out into a Master of Waves.

I do like Mirror Mockery on MoW. On top of everything else it temporarily a adds 2 devotion = 2 more elementals.

You will be able to win much less games now that you have cut cloudform from your deck. Any control deck has so much difficulty beating cloudform. It is pretty much fate reforged silumgar but it can't be disdainful stroked. It is a creature that can win games by itself which no other creature in the deck can

awesomemaxi69 Any control deck? Sultai control mainboard Sultai Charm, Crux of Fate and will bring in Drown in Sorrow. Please tell me I'm wrong, but I just don't see Cloudform single-handedly beating a control deck with ~7 cards that answer it.

I'm stuck between mono blue devotion/ Dimir cotnrol/ Esper control for a 1k my store is hosting? What deck do you think nets me the best chances of winning? I'm thinking blue black is looking sweet with this new set. Silumgar's Command and Dragonlord Silumgar look too crazy not to use. Along with Anticipate, I'm thinking BU control but let me know what you think. Although Narset Transcendent looks great, I think just blue black looks better than Esper currently.

Mirror Mockery is to be used as a defensive tool rather than an offensive tool on Master of Waves, though if the situation do arise the combo could be game ending.

@awesomemaxi69 : I'd rather have more probability of playing a 1 and 2 drop against control and attacking as soon as turn 2-3. At 3 mana Cloudform deals 2 damage by turn 4, control players should have enough time to find a Crux of Fate, Perilous Vault, Sultai Charm or even tapping out Silumgar, the Drifting Death. What I do like from Cloudform though is the unremovable devotion against non-control/non-sultai decks, I think that's the strongest argument and it's what still has me wondering if I should play it.

@DarkPaladin11 : I have no idea what your local meta looks like so I can't really help you. I played U/B at first hopping into a store and soon found out that 75% of players were playing aggro. I still wanted to play control so I opted for Sultai Control which is way better suited against aggro (mostly game 2).
If you really are into the ''best chances of winning'' mentality, your deck's choice should be a meta call. However, do keep in mind that the surprise factor is strong and I'm gonna cite my favorite character from GOT : Pety Baelish ''Always keep your foes confused. If they are never certain who you are or what you want, they cannot know what you are like to do next. Sometimes the best way to baffle them is to make moves that have no purpose, or even seem to work against you. Remember that, Sansa, when you come to play the game.''
So... It boils down to two things, either make a meta call, or break the meta!

For your sideboard, You should take out counters like Negate or Stubborn Denial and put in Thassa's Rebuff instead.

EssTea says... #14

godofcruelty... The problem with Thassa's Rebuff is that it's dead if you have no board presence, which happens a lot considering all the removal this format runs.

True

Maybe Dissolve? or is that to high casting? Honestly I haven't been playing the game for that long and have never played mono-blue devotion

I've been playtesting this against some decks that are similar to ones my friends have, and I have a couple observations for you to take with a grain of salt.

  1. I've been mana flooded a few times, so I pulled 2 Islands for an extra of each artifact. I especially think 1 Hall is too few.

  2. I also pulled 4 more Islands for 2 Scry lands that produce blue (I know they come in tapped, which is why only 2), and 2 fetch lands that search for islands (Polluted Delta is the cheapest right now) to help thin the deck a little. So far, after about 8 playtests, I'm liking the new structure. Might be worth you playtesting for yourself a little too see if you like it.

  3. Siding in the Walls of Frost for the removal spells against Red Sligh decks has saved my ass several times. Whatever you do, don't pull them. ;)

Tanis44 says... #17

Oh, and since she's Legendary and you can only play one of her at a time, it might behoove you to go down to 3 of Thassa. Perhaps for a 3rd Hall if you take my previous advice, or an extra one of your removals or the Mirror if that's your preference.

Believe it or not, I am just like you lol. I am so hyped up I'm pre-ordering cards like crazy! Dude check out my deck its alright and does well against good decks. I am playtesting for an FNM but well see. My brother runs of course RDW and it is pretty stupid when you got Goblin Rabblemaster everywhere. Overall I like the deck and would be really happy if you could take a sneak peek at mine man.

My meta is mostly red aggro, some red white aggro as well. Is this a good deck against red with the Master of Waves?

March 10, 2015 10:32 p.m.

juicytoot says... #20

this deck slams any sort of red aggro. not only with master, but sideboard Wall of Frost, and the Singing Bell Strike make winning too easy.

you mentioned above how you wish there was a cheap bounce spell not just for creatures to be made in DTK, well here ya go Void Snare.

Just ordered this whole deck on tcg, i'm going to make a few changes based on my meta game but hopefully it does good, i'm going to use it in an upcoming 1k. My meta game has a lot of red aggro, so i'm hoping for good results

This is amazing, but at the same time I'm laughing real hard because your deck has five Frost Walkers mainboarded lol. Maybe replacing the extra with another Mirror Mockery? For greater consistency. And what about Triton Shorestalker for a faster aggro approach?

+1

Could somebody explain Mirror Mockery in this deck? I don't get it.

@EssTea How is it a better defensive tool than an extra removal spell?
