do you ever sideboard in Sever the Bloodline , cause if not you should put either another Ultimate Price or Oblivion Ring

I don't usually end up sideboarding it in but that is because I've never played a mirror deck with this deck. If I get stuck against a mirror deck I need something to set myself apart and using Sever the Bloodline on their spirit tokens will give me just the edge I need

YOU'VE HAD ONE. BAD. MATCHUP.

ONE.

Don't dedicate your sideboard to 3 cards. If you struggled, you probably just had unlucky draws. It's kind of stupid to say your deck struggles with Olivia Voldaren and counterspells just because you lost to Grixis control a few times.

You also have no way of dealing with Geist of Saint Traft . Where's his sideboarded Liliana of the Veil or Barter in Blood ?

3 lands? in your sideboard? i would cut basics for them, and thats the point of the sideboard, to be able to add cards for decks that trouble you

December 10, 2012 7:36 p.m.

hollandboys says... #8

Those are the only cards I've had problems with. I just block the geist. And it's not like I'm only going to be using those cards on Olivia Voldaren or Thalia, Guardian of Thraben . They are just there in case I am having trouble, which is really what a sideboard is for. The best way to deal with Geist of Saint Traft is flashing in a 2/2 knight using selesnya charm so I do have an answer. And it's not because I had bad draws. I know this deck inside and out and as soon as Olivia Voldaren or Thalia, Guardian of Thraben hit the battlefield my first thought is "I'm screwed unless I can draw an Oblivion Ring "

I agree that having 3 lands in the sideboard seems crazy but would running three Cavern of Souls mainboard really be smart in a deck with only 16 creatures? And the Isolated Chapel is for sideboarding out the mainboard cavern if there are no counterspells

theonyc says... #10

thalia wouldn't be to bad late game, but early games it kills lots of decks and is worth sideboarding against, but i can see how olivia will dominate you

Lustrigia says... #11

Selesnya Charm also beats Olivia Voldaren . You also lose to Sigarda, Host of Herons . Where's her answer?

Bad experiences dude. It happens

December 10, 2012 7:43 p.m.

hollandboys says... #12

Ya I've had a hand that looks amazing with Lingering Souls and Selesnya Charm and some walkers and Rancor s and then Thalia drops and I just shake my head. It's very frustrating when you know you don't have an answer, so I added answers.

I would argue that your sideboard should be dedicated to deck speeds.

December 10, 2012 7:44 p.m.

theonyc says... #14

well, when i'm facing a deck like yours, i actually tend to side out a lot of counters for some more board wipes (i play a counterspell heavy deck)

December 10, 2012 7:44 p.m.

theonyc says... #15

wtf u mean FROZR2? deck speeds?

December 10, 2012 7:45 p.m.

hollandboys says... #16

I've actually never come up against a Sigarda, Host of Herons . But really, what is the answer for Sigarda other than blocking or boardwipes (which is obviously stupid in this deck)

December 10, 2012 7:46 p.m.

Lustrigia says... #17

The only thing that Cavern of Souls can protect is Thragtusk . The other cards don't really rely on it. I can still exile a Lingering Souls or walker no problem.

December 10, 2012 7:46 p.m.

hollandboys says... #18

True, and Silverblade Paladin . I'd rather not get my Thragtusk s countered though. Much rather have Lingering Souls countered (still not ideal but you see the difference)

December 10, 2012 7:47 p.m.

theonyc says... #19

i would probably take out cavern, your only counter worthy creature is thrag, so its not that useful when most of your deck is not creatures

December 10, 2012 7:48 p.m.

theonyc says... #20

Silverblade Paladin =Pillar of Flame , its not worth a counter

December 10, 2012 7:49 p.m.

hollandboys says... #21

Ah true I guess I never really thought about Pillar of Flame . I'll probably still sideboard a couple caverns but I see your point guys. No point in relying on one card to win the game for me. If I'm going to get countered I just need to trust that my deck will come up with something

December 10, 2012 7:51 p.m.

theonyc says... #22

i would actually side in more planeswalkers because lots of counter decks have only Detention Sphere as an answer (if they miss a counter)

December 10, 2012 7:53 p.m.

Lustrigia says... #23

Just because you haven't faced one yet doesn't mean you won't. This is what I'm saying. Your sideboard should help you adapt to aggro, midrange, or control, respectively. Not Olivia Voldaren and Thalia, Guardian of Thraben .

A deck like this? You claim you want it to be as fast as possible yet you run Thragtusk , Oblivion Ring , and 6 walkers. This is a midrange deck. You should really have a somewhat-viable answer for just about anything.

The fact is, your shit's going to get countered. That's why blue is the best color. Not a whole lot you can do except stop emptying your hand and playing everything when you can. Save some mana back in case of a Syncopate .

December 10, 2012 7:54 p.m.

Lustrigia says... #24

I would actually take out Silverblade Paladin . And collective blessing.

December 10, 2012 7:56 p.m.

theonyc says... #25

i second the blessing, not sure about silver blade though
