The deck has undergone dramatic changes since last weeks FNM. The changes are as follows:
Hangarback Walker took the place of Icefall Regent. The meta changed at my local game store. A majority of the players are playing RG Landfall , or some ally or warrior combo. The Icefalls really did not fit in this new meta.
Jace, Vryn's Prodigy
Flip I actually opened in my prize packs. I decided to put him in, considering he has insane versatility, and can be played in any blue deck. I took out Undergrowth Champion for him.
Prairie Stream and Canopy Vista took the place of two islands and two forests. I believe that these two cards will make Windswept Heath a hell of a lot better.
As far as games go, FNM went well. I placed first and walked away with 5 packs.
Game 1: Blue/Back Control Outcome: 2-0 Victory The deck I was facing was quite good, but I played around cards like Clash of Wills and Scatter to the Winds. In hindsight, when playing against any control deck, put the Deathmist Raptors out as soon as possible. With the Den Protector combo, this control deck did not stand a chance. I did not sideboard whatsoever.
Game 2: Green/Red Landfall Outcome: 2-1 Victory This was a shaky couple of games. I won game 1 and game 3 with stunning victories on behalf of Hangarback Walker. In game two, I had to mulligan down to five, as I was not getting proper mana. After the first game, I sideboarded in 2 Wild Slash to get rid of his pesky Scythe Leopard.
Game 3: Temur Aggro Outcome: 2-1 Victory The player that I played in this match has been a tough opponent of mine. I beat him last week, but all the games were close. This time, with the help of Hangarback Walker, I happily swept the skies from him. A majority of his removal was Exquisite Firecraft and Roast. Both of these are sorcery speed, so I would play cards that needed to be dealt with immediately. He would have to deal with them on his turn, and therefore, not play any threats. I sideboarded in Roast, which is quite ironic, as that was the one card he could not play!
Game 4: Black/White Lifegain / Ally Tribal Outcome: 2-0 Victory This game was very easy. His only removal was Valorous Stance, and my Deathmist Raptor stayed well out of it's range. I did not sideboard, and ended the tournament with a stunning Shaman of Forgotten Ways combo.
Reflection: After this FNM, I realized that I need to stabilize my mana base. I feel like I will do just as well next week. Stay tuned for updates!
