Smothering Tithe (Abbreviated as ST from here on) is an extremely powerful card, with only four mana put into it which can turn into 10-20 mana over the course of a regular game. However, I don't mean to make ST just another card in this deck, I mean to exploit its ability to generate mana as much as possible.

Game Plan Show

The end goal of this deck is to get out ST, Nekusar, the Mindrazer , and wheel as many times as you can. The repeated wheeling is possible because of the mana gained from ST whenever your opponents have to draw cards as well as the cards that you draw into while wheeling. Essentially, the deck behaves as a typical Nekusar deck, but with more wheeling capabilities because of the mana gained. An example of a Nekusar deck (albeit a bad one), is this one I made a while back. Nekuzar, the Mindrazer EDH (Yes, it's misspelled, I thought it was funny at the time.)

Abusing ST Show

While ST is a pretty powerful card in and of itself, it's power is limited to 3 mana per rotation when played as a regular card in the 99. However, if you can force your opponents to draw extra cards, ex. Windfall then the ability starts to show its real strength.

Wheels are the most broken part to ST as they allow the user to get more mana so they can cast more wheels, which in turn allow them to draw more cards (some being wheels hopefully) and get more mana to cast even more wheels, ad nauseam.

Other ways to take advantage of a ST is to have your opponents just draw extra cards during their turn, and not just on yours. Cards like Nekusar, the Mindrazer and Howling Mine are wonderful examples of such a concept.

Now, if you are forcing your opponent to draw an abundance of cards, then why not punish them for something that they can't control? Dealing damage to your opponents is very important to winning a game of magic, so cards that can deal damage to your opponents whenever they draw cards is a really smart way to go especially if they are going to draw lots of cards. Great cards that do this are Nekusar, the Mindrazer and Fate Unraveler because they deal damage to your opponents whenever they draw cards.

Why Enchantments? Show

You may be asking, "Why do you have so much enchantment support if you are trying to play a Nekusar deck? My answer to this question is that while your hidden commander is Nekusar, the primary card in this deck is ST. Every enchantment support in this deck was to round out the colors used in this deck when I was constructing it, as well as to help get ST out fast and to keep it out as long as possible. Some cards like Silent Sentinel are in the deck to get ST back if it was put into the graveyard.

Another reason why Enchantments are a subtheme is so that mini-combos and lockdowns, as well as some of the best cards in Nekusar, are given support so that if the ST gets exiled, then you have other options.

A mini-combo is essentially two cards that work well together, but don't have a huge impact on the game. For example, Estrid's Invocation + Grasp of Fate work really well together because you get rid of 3 threats with the Grasp of Fate, and the Estrid's can retarget whenever you blink it at your upkeep, so if the biggest threat changes, you can get rid of it. This mini-combo also works with Banishing Light .

How to play the Deck Show

If you like playing commander for the fact that you get to hang around other people while you play solitaire, then this is the deck for you. Whenever you play this deck, you won't have to worry much about what your opponents are doing, as the only thing you care about is surviving long enough to get ST out so you can start wheeling.

If you don't have ST out or in your hand, but you have a wheel/tutor in your hand, you can start searching for it. Don't be afraid to get rid of some of the cards in your hand with wheels that make you discard, because other wheel effects can bring those cards back. Commit / Memory + Time Reversal are good examples of bringing your graveyard back, as well as getting rid of graveyards that your opponents have should they be playing graveyard centric decks.

Once you start wheeling, keep on going! The goal of the deck is to draw as many cards as possible and do just about everything you can in the deck. Don't be afraid to wheel 10 times in one turn, if you do that, then you're doing exactly what the deck needs to do. Once it's turn 6, that might be the best time to start wheeling assuming you have ST because it's late enough in the game that everyone has had fun, but you want to ruin that by ending the game then and there.

Weaknesses Show

The deck is extremely weak to targeted exile, as well as decks that rush down a single opponent and kill them before it gets to turn ~6. Another weakness to this deck is that as soon as your opponents realize that this deck is a Nekusar deck, they will rush you down, because (in my experience) no one likes to draw extra cards and take damage from it.

This deck also tends to seem unfocused because of the enchantment subtheme, and drawing so many lands off of wheels doesn't seem to make the deck perform any better. Speaking of lands, another problem that this deck has is that it tends to get mana screwed at the beginning of the game, but draws into too many lands at the end.

Other weaknesses that need to be fixed, but are caused by not being finished yet is that the Mana Curve isn't a curve, and more of a spike, the Land Base isn't complete, and the price is still too high for me to actually purchase.

Strengths Show

The deck seems to win out of nowhere, so your opponents won't be expecting the four color deck to play ST (considered just a value card) and win off of its ability. Another strength that this deck has is that it tends to play cards that recur the main card as well as ways to get it out as fast as possible.
