Sideboard

My Build of Aluren playing with the new Recruiter of the Guard. This is a combo deck and works as follows in Legacy.

With Aluren in play and Recruiter of the Guard in hand, cast Recruiter of the Guard, get Recruiter of the Guard, repeat to get all 4 or remaining Recruiter of the Guard's in the deck. Last Recruiter of the Guard gets Arctic Merfolk , we cast Arctic Merfolk with the kicker, returning a Recruiter of the Guard, cast getting the other Arctic Merfolk , repeat. Recruiter of the Guard now gets Cavern Harpy, cast. With Cavern Harpy bounce trigger on the stack, you pay 1 life to bounce Cavern Harpy. Cavern Harpy trigger resolves bouncing an Arctic Merfolk . Cast Arctic Merfolk kicked, returning a Recruiter of the Guard, cast Recruiter of the Guard getting Parasitic Strix. Cast Cavern Harpy, bounce an Arctic Merfolk to hand. Pay 1 life, bounce Cavern Harpy to hand cast Cavern Harpy, in response to the trigger with out passing priority, cast Parasitic Strix. Parasitic Strix see's a a black permeant (Cavern Harpy), opponent looses 2 life, you gain 2. Then you repeat the bounces infinitely draining opponent for 2 while you gain 1 life a cycle. We hold an Arctic Merfolk in hand for protection from removal (takes 3 pieces oh removal to stop the combo unless you bring both Arctic Merfolk 's to hand, normally doesn't matter because opponents don't typical understand how to stop the combo, and if they do they may try to target the lone Arctic Merfolk on the bounce trigger but if they do they just wasted a piece of removal).

The combo is complex, due to its nature as stated opponents don't understand the combo, or how to interact with it. We run enough hand disruption so the chances of interacting with us when we go off is very low. In addition, we use hand disruption obviously to keep them off there game plan long enough to combo. This deck doesn't also combo so plan B is creature beat down.

The Aluren standard build runs Imperial Recruiter over the newly printed Recruiter of the Guard and Dream Stalker over Arctic Merfolk . Some may say the deck is weaker now, but Arctic Merfolk non-targeting bounce like Dream Stalker being apart of the casting cost can its own benefit. The big reasons of the change to Recruiter of the Guard would be;A- BudgetB- Something newC- Sideboard options

Being able to run a better variety of sideboard answers though the new splash color white opens options not available in red. Is it worth it? Only hard play testing will say for sure. Is it worth trying?Absolutely

Play around miracles decks- Combo off end of draw step

Updates Add

After playing and discussing the board more with others i remembered Meddling Mage, great card for the board, took out some spot removal for more other sideboard cards. I'm expecting the board to change more too as it seeing more play. Also I took out a copy of Aluren as i found how helpful it can be to have Enlightened Tutor over the fourth copy. You can cascade into it with Shardless Agent, Tutor a side board card like Rest in Peace or Tsabo's Web. Also game one it can hit 9 targets. Turns out to be it can make a bad hand decent. More updates to come!
