Deck Goals: This is an adaptive combo deck with Thrasios, Triton Hero and Tymna the Weaver that aims to win between turns 3 and 6, however is packed with grindy value if the game goes longer. The deck's primary win cons is reanimating Razaketh, the Foulblooded with either at least 2 creatures, or 1 creature creature with 3 untapped lands, and finally Flash + Protean Hulk.
Disclaimer Even if you are not a competitive EDH player, I believe there are some really cool decks out there with interesting combo lines to victory that any magic player can appreciate and maybe learn something new to try in your own decks.
Huge props, to a user by the name of ShaperSavant for creating the initial "Razakats" list that served as a starting point for my changes.
Razaketh Lines
Assuming you have Razzle Dazzle and 2 creatures on the field, the line would go something like this:
- Sac creature 1 to Razaketh, losing 2 life, to find Lion's Eye Diamond and put it into your hand.
- Cast Lion's Eye Diamond
- Sac creature 2 to Razaketh, losing 2 life, to find Eternal Witness, holding priority cracking LED for 3 Green Mana.
- Using the 3 Green Mana, cast Eternal Witness, it's ETB trigger will bring back the LED.
- Cast and crack LED for 3 Black Mana.
- Sacrifice Eternal Witness to Razaketh, losing 2 life, to find Reanimate.
- Using 1 of your 3 Black Mana, cast Reanimate bringing back Eternal Witness, losing 3 life.
- Eternal Witness' ETB bring back LED. Cast and crack LED for 3 White Mana (3 White, 2 Black in your pool)
- Sacrifice Eternal Witness to Razaketh, losing 2 life, to find Leonin Relic-Warder aka "the cat"
- Cast Leonin with 2 of the White mana in your pool.
- Sacrifice Leonin to Razakth, losing 2 file, finding Animate Dead/Dance of the Dead.
- Cast the card you just find found using 1 Black and 1 White mana from your pool, reanimating Leonin Relic-Warder.
- Due to the triggers of Leonin and your Animation enchantment of choice, you now have as many tutors as you want with Razaketh, only bounded by your life total. Your goal now is to find, at minimum, Blood Artist but you can also find mana rocks, or protection if you need it.
- Reanimate Eternal Witness instead of Leonin Relic-Warder to break the loop.
- Eternal witness brings back a reanimation enchantment (if you didn't find one when you tutored for the Blood Artist)
- Cast Blood Artist
- Cast another reanimation enchantment to start the Leonin Relic-Warder loop once again, this time pinging everyone for 1 damage each time, killing everyone.
If you have access to more mana when you get Razaketh on the field, other lines include assembling the combo of Lion's Eye Diamond + Auriok Salvagers to generate infinite mana and winning the game with Thrasios.
If you only have 1 creature on the field when you reanimate Razaketh, you can:
- Sac the one creature to Razaketh, losing 2 life, finding Life // Death
- Cast Life, turning all your lands into creatures, and start floating your land's mana and sacing them to Razaketh doing similar lines to the ones outlined above.
Hulk Lines
Flash + Protean Hulk has the ability win the game on the spot with similar means as the Razaketh lines.
- Cast Flash, putting Protean Hulk onto the battlefield. Refuse to pay the mana cost reduced by 2 generic mana, causing Protean Hulk to immediately die.
- Protean Hulk Death Trigger: Find Karmic Guide and Viscera Seer (If you're familiar with Hulk lines, this will probably look familiar to you)
- Karmic Guide gets back Protean Hulk
- Sac Protean Hulk to Viscera Seer.
- Protean Hullk Death Trigger: Getting Blood Artist and Saffi Eriksdotter.
- Sac Saffi, targeting Karmic Guide, pinging everyone for 1 with Blood Artist.
- Sac Karmic Guide to Viscera Seer, pinging everyone for 1 with Blood Artist.
- Karmic Guide comes back into play, returning Saffi Eriksdotter.
- Rinse and Repeat.
Spellseeker also allows us some lines where we get Spellseeker Saffi Eriksdotter and Viscera Seer as our first Hulk Pile, Spellseeker gets a protection spell of your choice. Then you sac Saffi targeting Spellseaker, sac Spellseeker, bringing it back and getting Reanimate to bring back Hulk and go into your more usual piles.
Winning with Thrasios
Generally this is plan C for the deck, but when life gives you lemons you draw your whole freaking deck. Once you've assembled infinite mana with Lion's Eye Diamond and Auriok Salvagers you are able to activate Thrasios as many times as you want, essentially drawing your entire deck and putting all lands into play tapped. With your deck in your hand you can execute the following loop:
- Cast Eternal Witness
- Cast Winds of Rebuke Returning Eternal Witness to your hand, Milling everyone 2 cards.
- Cast Eternal Witness, returning Winds of Rebuke to your hand.
- Repeat this until all your opponents have no cards in their library.
- Pass the turn, each opponent ideally will lose the game on their draw step.
Other Deck Notes
This deck also packs a solid interaction suite on par with other midrange-style decks. This deck runs 6 counterspells, 5 targeted removal spells, 2 board wipes, 8 tutors, and 8 card draw effects. The deck also plays a ton of mana dorks to accelerate your gameplan as well as serving as food for Razaketh when you want to go off.
I hope you enjoyed reading this Primer, and feel free to drop me any questions you might have here in the comments and I'll try my best to answer them!
